    • @arjunski
      @arjunski  3 года назад

      it's definitely overhyped quite a bit. Tho the runs off Wagon Wheel Bowl (skier's left of this run) are definitely pretty scary! This run tho is pretty easy except for the first part!

    hey are you familiar with mammoth mountain at all? i want to go up to kirkland next season and i would like to know how the wall compares to something like climax in terms of difficulty

    • @arjunski
      @arjunski  4 года назад

      Erica :/
      I've unfortunately never had the opportunity to go to Mammoth Mountain, however after seeing a video of Climax, I feel like I can give you a decent answer. Firstly, both have a VERY similar layout: Steep initial entry, then a wide bump run all the way down. In my opinion, The Wall by FAR has the harder initial entry. It's steeper and narrower. Plus, Kirkwood's snow isn't nearly as nice or plentiful as Mammoth's snow. So that top part is usually HARD ice. Because of this bareness, a lot of rocks pop up making it a VERY challenging first part. It can be quite sketchy early season. However, after that, The Wall in my opinion becomes pretty anticlimactic as it's turns into a moderate bump run which is about as difficult as a tough blue or easy black bump run. Climax looks like it has the harder second part as it's much longer and looks just a bit steeper. The Wall ends very quickly (it takes me about 5-6 ish minutes to get down) and I've seen people take 7-13ish minutes to get down Climax. So Climax will probably be the more physically challenging run while The Wall is a lot more mentally and technically challenging as it's very hard to get down that first part.Overall, I'd say that if you can do Climax at Mammoth, you should be able to do The Wall, although watch out for that initial drop! I'd highly recommend that you either bring a friend or family member who's willing to ski The Wall with you just in case you take a fall which isn't too likely but it's definitely happened to me before! It's always good to take someone with you to ski these more challenging slopes! I hope you have a great time at Kirkwood this season! It's such a special place and it's truly an incredible experience to go there. The terrain is just so amazing for California! Sorry for the essay, but I hope this answers your question! :)

      Yeah it in all honesty is nothing more than a tough black diamond. However there's a youtuber called Jaiden's
      Animations who made an animated video reflecting on her traumatic experience and it's kinda been a meme in the community since, go check out her video for context!
      A double black is a slope above a black diamond. I haven't been skiing in Europe, but I believe your trail designation system goes blue (beginner) - red (intermediate) - black (expert). Well a Double Black Diamond is technically above a black diamond in America and is for slopes with steep pitches, natural and potential fatal hazards, etc...

    • @arjunski
      @arjunski  3 года назад +2

      It's not, it's actually quite easy for a double black. However when it's icy, jeez that first part can be an absolute nighmare. But you're totally right, it's not hard when you look at the physical run, but when you take factors like intimidation caused by the ride up and the generally icy snow conditions, it's pretty tough
