I’ve seen this rig at the Dayton, Ohio (Howard Trucking) show. Love this rig. I had a chance to buy one a few years ago that had been stripped down to just the cab, sleeper and hood on the frame...I missed out on that one! Those rigs had some style!
When I was a kid I new George Sr. He had a lot of great stories about his work his store huckster wagons and depression times. I never knew Jr .I seen his trucks his modest beginnings. His family has a great collection of antique trucks.
One look at the gearshift lever which I'd say would be an RTO 9513 road ranger and you can tell it's likely to have a Detroit engine of some description. This truck is absolute heaven. They sure have unbelievable looking trucks in America at the shows.
Beautiful truck I always liked Jimmies.. Maybe bc it's the 1st truck I went in when I was around 6 with my dad,, He had a 59 950 with a Detroit.. didn't know wjhat it was but I loved the sound,, Then he got a 61 m same motor,, One of my 1st jobs was a 67 9500 with a 238
Had two of these back in 1982. Although they were really good looking trucks they were junk. The front ends were wicked flimsy and were constant problems. Those trucks would literally fall apart. GMC never produced a quality class 8 truck which is why they didn’t last long in the heavy duty trucking business. My father owned a lumber business and had quite a few ten and six wheel trucks and it was the same with them. Too bad because like I said those generals were really good looking.
Not all of these trucks came with the Detroit. Several came with a Cummins and a few had Caterpillar muscle! Detroit was their corporate engine but it all depends on how it was spec!
@@hunzolee That's what I've heard too, but all the other '86 models I see are round lights and '87 and later is the updated design (which I believe was due to the partnership with Volvo?)
Yes, we use to make trucks...nice trucks, trucks that driver , owner, operator, could be proud to drive....but corporations in the market and in industry, for a $$$ a little bit more, GREED is GOOD- that is the corp mode, did change all of it, now we drive plastic shit cans, with great MPG's, and trucks that brake all the time and even best mechanic do not know haw to repair them, ah the shit trucks of today cost up to 300 000 $, the gas at the pump cost 7-8 $ not 55 cents, so were did all the savings that truck owner were "?" getting for going to a new trucks? ah the money went in to corp greed pockets, and these pockets are always empty....did we move forward ? it do not look like it. Long hood, I doubt it had a Detroit
Beautiful. I never saw one on the road anywhere close to this nice.
Hmm! Yes that's right these class 8 semi tractors did have a nice body style! #keepontruckin 👍💯
Very beautifull and great GMC Astro
0:54 Sir!!! You stepped beyond the chains, I'm going to have to ask you to leave!!!

Sweet general
Love it
GM was leagues better in 1986 than it is now. GM has pretty much bottomed out these days.
How so?
Nice 👍

I’d do anything to own a gmc general or a chevy bison.
I have a Bison, black and chrome!
8V71 13 speed
Hope your still with us after this virus . I love this truck it's the best in my style of trucks
You and me both chadsbee
Beautiful truck 👍
Sleeper even to the cab looks good on these. The one thing I hated about Jerry Reed/Snowman's General in Smokey II was the giant brick looking sleeper

The only General I've seen with square lights. Where do I find 'em?
Only thing I heard, the 86 -87 model year was available with square headlights
