God I LOVED this show! Tears in my eyes at curtain call. Of the three original musicals I saw on my trip, it's the only one who's songs are in my head (besides W4E's The Road Don't Make You Young.) I saw Shaina Taub's standby as Alice Paul who brought an incredibly appropriate Jodie Foster vibe on top of great acting and pinpoint singing! Seeing Nikki M James live for the first time was delightful and made me crave someone produce a vehicle for her; she was born to carry a show. It's gonna be a long wait for that OBCR to drop in June.
Loved this musical. Great cast. Good songs. “If We Were Married” is an excellent song because it puts things in stark context for most of the audience who likely never considered such things. Some of the older women in the audience remembered those things, but Men certainly never had to entertain such circumstances.
I also appreciated they didn’t shy from the conflicts among the women including marginalizing black women.
Glad you didn’t have an issue with the Wilson portrayal.
This is a story that deserves to be told. In fact it’s overdue.
it just does not seem to be a "family" show...that all tourist families.would enjoy... families with young children/etc...more an adult show...
be interesting to see what nominations it will receive
I would say the show is suitable for 13 and up. It’s certainly more family friendly than The Book of Mormon or Moulin Rouge or Hadestown which are enjoying successful runs.
The fact that most of your review is explaining history that all adults should know instead of the quality of the show. The talent and production quality is lacking in this show. You would know this if you have attended well produced and talented shows on Broadway. Good luck
Wow, hate much? The talent on the stage was brilliant and any number of them could have been nominated in Featured Actress.
Sadly most people DON’T know the history because textbooks rarely include more than a line or two which is a disgrace.
