CANDY Fox from Crawley is obsessed with the pink kawaii look. She is an artist, a toy collector and a musician. Candy has always been interested in Japanese fashion and growing up she experimented with different styles like emo, goth, pastel and anime but eventually landed on a combination of them all. She describes her aesthetic as 'Kawaii Monster' and it embodies the monster aesthetic; creepy, cute and glamorous. She has been dressing in this look for the past four years and wears it every day that she isn’t working her normal day job. She feels her most authentic self when dressed as Candy and can’t imagine ever not dressing this way. She has said that she looks exactly how she always dreamed of looking when she was a child.

@@mysterywilliams8241 she's harassed my friend through different social media platforms, claiming that she "stole" her look even though she's not the only person to do a kawaii monster look and she shops at another friend's Etsy who made the paws she wears. It got To the point fae has blocked her numerous times (multiple accounts) across platforms to be left alone and spoken on it. She's also only ever brought this up towards poc which far happens to be.

I absolutely love alternative girls! I always wanted to dress alternatively but my mom wouldnt like it. Plus I didn't have a lot of money lol. But now since I got my own place and money, I plan to go all out and live how I wanted when I was a teen!!

So the part where she meet with her friend it literally brought me memories when I was a child me and my friend would dress up we also had our lil set of tea cups and collection of the bratz. I am happy I grew out of that phase, they obviously still in that phase, there’s nothing wrong with that as long as it makes them happy.

Back in the 90's, being a "freak/grunge" or "alternative/punk" was very diff depending on where u lived, (goth wasn't part of the alt/grunge thing then.. it was its whole diff thing that actually got more h8 than others), what stuff ur into, or who u hung out w. There was sooo much diversity when it came to dressing cuz we didn't have Instagram, constant media influx, or fashion "scenes" to tell us what was "cool." (Not that I'm saying now there's no originality) Such as, we made our own clothes or pinned em up & took/morphed ideas from past generations as some do now, etc. I can imagine my ex gf, back then, being on this if we had RUclips back then. (I graduated in 1999) She changed her hair color & look all the time, we always had our own VERY personal styles, made/designed clothes & set trends within our area. She pierced herself & had tatts (I was just a lil less intense than her in high school😋).. I miss pre-social media. 💟
I miss the pre social as well. I graduated in 02. Iam goth and yeah definitely got the hate. Theres even hate within the goth community towards other goths as my friend and I are plus sized and they literally loath anyone who was fat. We always got snarky remarks, death stares, or even just snubbed because we didn’t look like a triple size zero. In that aspect it has become more accepted within the community for body size, but there are some who are stuck in their ways. There’s even hate when it comes to music. I was never talented at making clothes or alterations but I did go to thrift stores and found different pieces and put my outfit together and my friend would help with alterations as she was awesome with them.

Ahhhhh!! This was so fun to watch!! I've been following Candy for like 8 years on Instagram and we have talked a handful of times over the years. She is a sweetheart and Im so proud of her!! Truly an inspiration
She is fabulous and I really admire her for being herself without worrying about what other people think. I'm finally learning to do that after years of feeling bad when I was judged for being Goth. I have always loved pink and wanted to wear it more, but felt I couldn't. After loosing my mother recently, it's like something snapped in me and I want to be more fairy/kawaii than Goth. I want everything to be pink and white; so I've been moving towards doing just that and not caring if anyone doesn't like it or not. I admire her look and her friend's look. I am also wondering about the professional lives of these people with unique fashion styles. How do they find work and where do they work? Do they interact with the public in their job? Do they dress professionally for work and express their style outside of work? Do they work independently or do they sell items online to support their unique fashion choices? They have to have a source of income to buy their makeup, clothes, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc. If they collect things like how this girl collects toys and plushies, how can they afford it? that stuff can get expensive. Additionally, I am interested in finding a job that allows me to interact with people while expressing my personal style. Thank you!
