      Hey Rick...Thanks a bunch. Hope yours arrives soon...its been fun for sure. Going out today to do a test on the frame rates. Not sure that the all inclusive 24 frame works for flying a drone. I have a feeling that for general flying and posting to RUclips you are going to need something a little higher.

    I’ve never tried to fly a drone that big indoors. Interesting how it still had enough GPS Sat’s indoors to fly. It was quieter indoors that I would have suspected. Great testing Rusty. I actually just purchased a EVO 2 Pro, and your video’s really helped make the decision.

      Thanks. The new update has a function to fly indoors that will turn the sensors off. You need the propeller guards that are in the video supposedly. I have not tried it yet but will this week. Have fun.

    Great video. I like the way you are going step by step (in a logical order) from unboxing, first flight etc. I am slowly watching all of your videos before my drone arrives (I also subscribed too). 3 years ago we moved to Germany. I ordered my Autel from the US because I wanted the bigger box with the tray (they do not sell in Europe yet). Obviously no FAA here. The requirement here is you must have drone insurance and you must have a fireproof label with your name and address attached to the drone. I'll comment more as I work my way through the videos.

    That was a cool vid! I'm not too surprised about it picking up satellites indoors. I have a couple GPS asset trackers and they will pinpoint the location of things down to the nearest 5' even indoors. I can see the outline of my own house on Google Maps in the asset tracker app and not only can I see my bag that has a tracker in it, but it even shows up in the correct part of the house. I think what you are seeing is an indication that the Evo II has really good satellite receivers.

    • @RustyNelsonPhotography
      @RustyNelsonPhotography  4 года назад

      That's interesting. Thanks for the info. BUT...then Autel has created a problem for indoor flyers. Because there is no way to turn off the GPS and thus no way to deactivate the go home feature when the drone looses communication or when the drone hits low battery levels. I'm hoping that I'm missing something.

      @@RustyNelsonPhotography there's got to be a way :). Mine is supposed to show up here on Friday. I will dig into the settings and see if there's a combo of settings that fully disables the GPS. Alternatively it's possible it is simply telling you it has signal from those satellites, but it may not be using that signal for anything. have you called Autel? You should. They are in WA and will answer your questions vs. just sending you some canned E-mail like other vendors do.

  • @copyjim81

    Very cool, and I think Autel needs to investigate that switching on of the obstacle avoidance. It might be interesting to see if the obstacle avoidance turns off when that light comes on... fly into the dark and it goes off, the pit and it comes back on. I bet that is what they have setup, it forgot to think that someone may have manually set it to be off.
    Yeah, it it was in ATTI mode, likely it would not have put on the breaks. I have to give that a try with my EVO 1, just to see what happens. O don’t have the guards, and likely will not get them yet as I don’t plan on flying into any building that might fall on me if I went in.
    Keep it up. Every day will have another interesting experience. It will be fun to see the pictures you end up with using the EVO.

    • @RustyNelsonPhotography
      @RustyNelsonPhotography  4 года назад

      I have a feeling ti is a bug. It would make sense to have it come on when its entering a dark area. In either case you should have more control over it at this level.

    • @star_imaging
      @star_imaging 2 года назад

      @@RustyNelsonPhotography I think this is because it switches off obstacle avoidance when there is not enough light (I fly a lot at sunrise and notice this) and thus when there is enough light, it turns it on. What it seems to miss is that if the user turns it if that is different to the system turning it off due to low light.

      Hi Xin, Yes I agree now that I have flown it more...this was only my third flight. Will be doing another vid on that...flying in ATTI mode. I have found a workaround to get it into ATTI mode so I can learn to fly that way. The question is.... If you lose communication and are flying in ATTI Mode and "DO HAVE GPS" will the drone return home (failsafe) or will it land. Autel needs to have these options so a pilot like myself that wants to fly indoors can make the drone safe when it loses communication indoors. I do not want the drone to go to altitude when it loses communication or hits the 15% battery mark. BTW pretty name...XIN. (beautiful)

    Excellent video, I've seen the prop guards on ebay, but have been waiting for someone to post a video of them. As for getting GPS inside, I bet if you looks at the diagnostic data you would find those were all Glonass(Russian gps) satellites. Glonass has better building penetration GPS satellites. Most modern GPS chips use a combination of GPS(US), Glonass(Russian), BeiDou(China) , Galileo(Euoppean). There are others but those are big ones. Side note, since modern GPS chips use a combination of systems, no single government can degrade the GPS system like the United States did with "Selective availability" prior to May 2000.

    Jeeeeez, Had me pulling my hair out I swear lmao! If you actually read the literature then you'd be able to answer at least half of your puzzling questions and to help you out, The drone WILL NOT initiate RTH with 150ft or closer to the take off point. but if you are connected to sat signal only and farther than 150Ft then you will initiate RTH... BUT also if you get into any type of panic or anything like that all you need to do is TAP the pause button, you don't even need to hold it just tap and it will stop, OR Changed the critical battery limit to 25 or 30 percent and it will initiate a forced landing right then and there but that's if you're really paranoid. But just look up your manual and you'll be just fine lol

    • @RustyNelsonPhotography
      @RustyNelsonPhotography  4 года назад

      Glad you stopped by and took the time BUT. i did read the manual to you right in the video. Watch it again. It says. When you are within 10m or 30 ft the unit will land if RTH is presses. Notice in the vid that it goes to alt not land. That is the point.

    • @yourtubernoob
      @yourtubernoob 4 года назад +1

      @@RustyNelsonPhotography lol okay from your response it seems as if you didn't understand what I had said in the recent past on your video. To start off, I know quite well that you read the manual but it's the concept of comprehension that is what I was getting at.. basically saying to go back and re-read that manual. because the question or statement of what puzzled you is that of going into low battery RTH not if you Pressed the RTH function and what would happen. So naturally as I stated before, unless you are further than 120 to 150Ft away from the take off point you would either A. if within this required radius & under Sat Lock: You would head straight for the home point, Without rising to the set RTH height limit set on the controller or in the Application.. B: if within the radius and not under Sat Lock, then you will again not rose to default altitude but initially just land where you are a s long as the Landing Protection assures it's a safe area to land/ if not you'll be promoted to manually land or it will move to the left or right to find a safe spot to land. Or, C: I stated that if you would like to basically have a indoor fail safe for such as what I do to insure there isn't any accidental Failsafe of the initial low battery RTH and have it rose into the ceiling or something if that nature, to set my Critical Battery limit which initially engages the forced landing procedure instead of the early battery Failsafe or RTH if it feels it's too far etc.. but it's something I was giving as a helpful hints as to negate any accidental rise or crash due to a RTH not initially engages by the pilot.. Now sorry and didn't mean to come off rude, but my OCD was just firing off when you kept saying things that were obvious. for instance the vision system rengaging when coming back into a lit area, this is easily seen by the top left corner you will see that it has an EyeBall with the word Vision and it's either nice and written clear or it'll have a Cross through it stating that vision systems are turned off. So since you were in the Standard mode, this mode of flight will automatically engage the flight saftey system and vision system due to it being the default for that flight mode. but if you switch it over to ludicrous and change your control inputs you can negate this effect but I suggest as some constructive effort in working on your input control and learn smooth and complete movements. The best and easiest way to achieve this as how most professional and instructors will teach you, is using the pinch method

      @RustyNelsonPhotography  4 года назад +3

      I think we are maybe talking about different things...maybe... So let me give it a go....
      From the manual...
      Page 28 under 2.1.6
      1 Communication Lost (BTW...communication lost and BATT low are under different headings and have different responses by the unit...the 150ft note is under BATT low and says that and I tested that...it seems to work.)
      The Manual...continued... Failsafe will be activated if communication is lost between your aircraft and remote control for 3 seconds.
      If GPS is available (which it is) when the Failsafe function is activated, the aircraft will automatically use the Go Home function. (me in the video...If you can not turn off GPS or go into ATTI mode "which you can not" (although I found a workaround) the unit will try to climb to altitude!!!!) Me...there is no way to stop it! Manual Continued... Otherwise, it will land from its current position. When communication is restored, you can still press the Pause Button ( ) to regain control of the aircraft.
      Here is the problem...This is not under batt low....this is under communication lost. If you have lost communication...well then there is NO WAY TO Stop it from going up. Right?
      Next...Manual...Under 2.1.6 Smart Flight Features. • If the Go Home function is activated within a 10-meter (30-feet) radius of the home point, the aircraft will automatically descend and land. THIS IS NOT TRUE....see this video and I prove this to be false. ruclips.net/video/33YVuKX7vaQ/видео.html the manual is wrong or there is a bug.
      From the manual under Batt low....
      NOTES
      • If the aircraft is within 50 horizontal meters (150 feet) from the home point when your aircraft battery level reaches 25% (Low Battery Warning), the aircraft will not perform the Go Home procedure. (I tested it at further than 200 ft and that worked fine except in this other video and I blame it on the sun. See ruclips.net/video/33YVuKX7vaQ/видео.html
      • If GPS is unavailable when Failsafe is activated during a Low Battery Warning, the aircraft will not execute the Go Home procedure. Instead, the aircraft will enter ATTI mode and stay in your control. The aircraft will proceed to land automatically only when the battery reaches 15% (Critically Low Battery Warning)..I did not test it at 25% but did do it at 15%... and i MENTION THAT IN THE OTHER VIDEO. IT WORKED.
      With all that said and I got my OCD out of the way...what part of that do you disagree with? Really if I'm wrong about this I would love to know. As far as I know, this is what I address in these videos.
      Regarding the Batt low...Yes, that is an interesting workaround. It would be nice if they would just give you a button to turn of the RTH if "communication lost". I believe DJI has three choices. RTH, Hover, or land? Maybe I'm wrong I'm new to this. Here is the situation. You are in a large sound stage. They are longer than 150ft. There are many types of radio frequencies going on. you fly to the opposite end (200ft) and you lose RC communication. As I did...you have 10 sats. I believe the unit will climb after 3 seconds. I "think" you are correct that if you raise the 15% level to say 95% it might "land" thinking it is at the "Critically Low Battery Level" Is that what you are saying? Im laughing...would be much easier if they just adjusted the software to better fly it indoors unless I'm missing something.
      Thanks for the thoughts on this...that is the way we learn. Rusty

    Still waiting for the big crash..... ha-ha... however I did wonder the reason for the indoor but thinking about it, as AUTEL are now trying to hit the upper market of commercial drones, they have leap frog'd the DJI type drones and that is their plan I believe at a price which is available to a lot of public services and not necessarily just drone high end enthusiasts, this is why I wonder why people keep on trying to do comparisons between lower end drones and the EVO saying if the price was lower they would be the same, well that's not the idea, AUTEL are heading up- the market not down.. as a general comment to throw out there testing of it's functionality, shortcomings or built in apps is great by the people who do it, but comparisons... just not needed...
    So, use as as search drone, fire service, police etc especially with the FLIR camera fitted this would be perfect... and the way to go, you also get a super cinematic video drone as well.... so I slightly bow to your test... but waiting for the big crash still..... :-) Cheers
