A colleague of mine collided with a motorcyclist who was killed. Previously the MC passed an ex-copper and advanced driving instructor who estimated the MC speed to be in excess of 130mph. Accident investigation team said they’d never seen a bike end up so far from the point of impact. The dead motorcyclist had nine previous recorded riding offences (but they were considered irrelevant!). Car driver (very considerate guy) was charged with “causing death by driving without due care”. After a year, the case still hadn’t come to court but his solicitor suggested that he plead guilty to get case done as if he pleaded not guilty, the case would be referred from magistrates to the Crown Court, there would be another delay and in the possible but unlikely event of a jury finding him guilty, the judge might impose a custodial sentence. His own mental health suffered so badly that he just wanted it over with. Was banned for two years and given £1.5k fine and had to pay costs. All because of some selfish suicidally stupid motorcyclist. We then had two years of roadside shrine garbage c/o the family which was eventually removed by National Highways as it was a distracting eyesore and blocked a road sign.
Been driving 42yrs in Britain. I now hate driving here due to so many stupid drivers that have nothing between there ears. How did they pass there test ?
And there is the problem, they are taught to pass a test, they are not taught how to drive on the road. There should be a minimum number of hours with tuition before a test is taken.
As a class 1 truck driver I encounter bad driving every mile I travel. Range Rover, Audi and B.M.W drivers are the worse. They drive with a pompous aire of arrogance. Gone are the days of courtesy, consideration and caution. Vehicles costing many thousands of pounds drivers drive in a very cavalier way. I'm coming to the end of my professional driving career the way I feel I doubt I will miss it. It's war out there. People drive too aggressively. Impatient people cause accidents.

Surely, if you're going to mess with an HGV, you don't do it in an old Ford Fiesta. Kind of a Darwinian thought process going on there, I believe. The thing that most car drivers don't get is that HGV/semi/big-rig drivers are constantly "on alert" checking all sorts of mirrors so they can drive defensively whereas most car drivers think that mirrors are purely for decoration or are best used for checking their hairdo/makeup.

Back when I drove lorries I had a co-driver who thought it would be worth giving all new licence holders a 3 month temporary HGV+PSV provisional category and requiring them to take 3 hours of instruction on those vehicles within the 3 months just so they could learn how busses and lorries accelerate and brake and how much space they need.

The one thing clear from most of these clips is the limited braking distance of heavy goods vehicles 😬. They should leave much more space between themselves and anything in front, and any driver in front of them should be aware of that fact. IMO the HGV drivers generally drive way over their speed limit.
i drive a cattle truck and having to brake hard to save the life of a moron usually involves vet bills and major damage to internal gates that put the truck of the road until repaired - usually at a cost of a few thousand quid ...people dont seem to realise the cows arent all sitting on seats with seatbelts on but standing and when the truck has to stop quickly the cows dont ! Leave a gap and if there is one please dont pull into it ...i need it to stop gently for safety of my load !

4:42 Those points were video-edited. The truck wasn't respecting lane discipline. If you are on the first lane on the right, common sense says you keeo first lane on the right after the turn. If you are going to change lanes it's better to do it safely before or way after the instersection, and not during incorporation when vehicles have to maneuver.
No!!!! The first lane before the roundabout turns left, the second becomes first in the roundabout and the third becomes second. You can see the road marks before the traffic lights. The middle lane is for left and straight, the third is straight and right. That SUV tried to turn right from the middle lane. You are an example why we have so many accidents.

A few years ago, I saw the aftermath of a crash involving two HGVs with a car in the middle. I doubt anyone in the car made it out alive.

The lorry in the 4:10 min mark, that's outside Bristol, going from M5 to M4 or continue on M5 towards Gloucester. They changed the lanes, still gets a bit using to when driving there
The one thing clear from most of these clips is the limited braking distance of heavy goods vehicles 😬. They should leave much more space between themselves and anything in front, and any driver in front of them should be aware of that fact. IMO the HGV drivers generally drive way over their speed limit.
first clip, they've got many kilometres of shoulder to be used to accelerate, why don't they use it but pull on the road with 0 speed?

2:33 - I believe the age of the Fiesta means it is exempt from tax.
You still have to apply, it's just that the charge for vehicles in the "historic" taxation class is zero.
In top of everything hard braking an HGV may cause the load (rare loads but still) to slide forward and pierce through everything killing the driver.
i drive a cattle truck and having to brake hard to save the life of a moron usually involves vet bills and major damage to internal gates that put the truck of the road until repaired - usually at a cost of a few thousand quid ...people dont seem to realise the cows arent all sitting on seats with seatbelts on but standing and when the truck has to stop quickly the cows dont ! Leave a gap and if there is one please dont pull into it ...i need it to stop gently for safety of my load !
@@jamesscullion3162 That's the only load you can't secure enough to make sure it won't move if you break hard. If anything else moves when you break hard you just didn't secure it and that's not an excuse not to break hard.

Oh yes, and just to add a prick in a BMW undertaking those trucks. In the old days I had a 318i company car, back in the 80s. Driven respectfully because the brand had a classy image back then. Maybe the truck pulled out in front of the Fiesta prior to what we saw? Even the last one, you just don't know if it was road rage towards the truck doing a silly move prior to what we saw. I feel most if not all, break checks or purposely slowing down in front of another vehicle is because of a earlier move we did not see on the video. I don't condone road rage of any sorts; I do feel a lot of these maneuvers are because of prior incidents.
That Audi driver needs to be prosecuted. Overtaking on a blind bend is just too poor for words.

Some years ago on the M25 I realised I nearly missed a turn off, and cut in front of a heavy lorry. I nearly caused an accident, and if the driver is reading this, I apologise profoundly. My car at the time was a silver Zafira. Sorry.

4:42 Those points were video-edited. The truck wasn't respecting lane discipline. If you are on the first lane on the right, common sense says you keeo first lane on the right after the turn. If you are going to change lanes it's better to do it safely before or way after the instersection, and not during incorporation when vehicles have to maneuver.
No!!!! The first lane before the roundabout turns left, the second becomes first in the roundabout and the third becomes second. You can see the road marks before the traffic lights. The middle lane is for left and straight, the third is straight and right. That SUV tried to turn right from the middle lane. You are an example why we have so many accidents.
Glenshee clip is so dangerous, and unnecessary, as their is a big straight after the twists bends. 4:42 clip truck used wrong lane. Red Honda civic is reckless dangerous, trying for insurance job, these cars sold stripped for parts are worth more than double the value

3rd Clip - Always an Audi, can't believe some of the stupidity in these clips. The red Honda, would love to know the outcome of that one, BMW driver needs banning for 2 years and made to resit their test. The last clip, it looked like they or the lorry hit the cyclists.
