  • Critics of the Asbury Revival, like Spencer Smith and Todd Friel, claim that the Gospel wasn't preached there and that it was unbiblical because demons were being cast out. Yes, you read that correctly. In this video, I talk with professor Craig Keener who was an eyewitness to the revival and can guarantee that the Gospel was indeed being preached and just as in biblical times, demons were being cast out as a result.

I would agree, but there are indications the one "exorcism" I know about at Asbury was not legitimate.
Of course, that does not invalidate the movement, but in that case I would be cautious talking about exorcisms to support the movement.

Their criticisms make sense to me.

Then please explain why it's OK to lie about the Gospel not being preached when it actually was being preached, and why casting out demons is a bad thing when it is in fact the demons who are the bad guys?

@@Charismactivism I think many of the critics have said some positive things. The issues they have are with the things that are clearly not of God. That's all.

@@spitfireap77 What about the criticisms we bring up in the video? Does it make sense to lie about the revival and then go on portraying casting out demons as something negative? Doesn't that mean that the critics side with the demons?

@@allanyoung6231 I've read the New Testament multiple times and it describes the existence of demons and how Jesus commanded all his disciples (not just apostles) to cast them out. Why then do you call this charismatic nonsense? Don't you think the Bible is the Word of God?
