To make it more random looking I do the following:
Let them shuffle the deck
They cut the deck
They choose a packet
You let them deal their packet in 2 and you do the same with the other and you silently count as you deal your packet. You then know their number of cards. Each riffle their 2
The rest the same.

i love this trick. i think to make it more complex you can tell the spectator to add the cards that he put aside to the bottom of the deck and you can do a fault jog shuffle ( keep the 22 card in place) before reveal it behind the back.

Is the keycard only used to help getting 22 cards separated?
