This happened to my mother 10 years ago She called the IT guy and told Jim that she was copying and it all disappeared. He sat there and he said both USB drives are not working anymore, and he right click formatted them both without even asking her. Too late now. Those were all the photos of our family since marriege for the first 10 years of our lives. 4 children and parents. Thanks! This happened to me a few days ago. When I was gonna work on some files, I noticed that my USB memory seemed to have cleansed itself of all the containing files. I panicked and started to look for solutions online and found this video. For me, it was Disk Drill that worked. Although some files were unrestorable, I managed to get some of the most important files back. Unfortunately, the second tip didn't help at all since the USB history had been inactivated all the time. From now on, I'm also gonna store files on Google Drive. That way, I have double guarantee just in case something like this would happen again.
Used my USB and then it said it needed to be reformatted. I tried the USB in 4 different desktop PC's and a laptop and all of them indicated the USB needed to be reformatted. I was able to successfully restore over 2500 files from the USB upon simply using the chkdsk X:/f. It allowed me to see the content on the USB and save it to my C Drive. 5 months worth of work successfully salvaged! THANK YOU!!!!!!

Oh Boy, first Command saved my life already, after i typed "chkdsk D: /f" it say "do you want to convert unreadable path to file" or something like that (it was in german and im bad in translation", and then all of a sudden, it worked. My USB war readable again, thank you sooooo much.!!!!
So far, so good. You may have made my day much better. I'm still a little shell shocked from my deletion experience. I'll get back to you, again, in a couple of weeks.

I misclicked when deleting a file and accidentally deleted the whole entire folder. I felt like I was about to cry... like I lost YEARS of work in the matter of a second... 'Tried the CMD solution: 1st command worked fine ... but don't know where the results went after the 2nd command. Then tried Solution #2, unsure if my Explorer has the 'Home' tab for 'History'. Downloaded DD Basic: I mistakenly chose a Full / Deep / ARMethods scan which produced 7.5 GB. Too much, most of which is safe and sound in the USB stick as originally stored. Q: Would DD Pro allow me to "retrieve" the file names I had for folders & files? I accidentally lost only a few folders (w/their corresponding files [hundreds]). Many in the scan are now renamed. Would sure like to avoid reorganizing everything. // Thank you SO MUCH for your time, expertise & dedication! God bless. EDIT: Yikes, DD Pro is $89! Thought it was $29.

Formatted wrong thumb drive by accident. Luckily it was the quick-format. I downloaded the Disk Drill software and paid the $89 (ouch) and it restored the 14gb of files. Thanks for the video.

Wow thank you so much for this tutorial. I recovered my file via Disk Drill from my USB. You see while i was working the excel froze so i ended the program creating recovery files. I saved new files while deleted the old files so as not to confuse it with the recovery file. While doing so i accidentally deleted a file which i shouldnt. I was on the brink of giving up onto my last attempt . Thanks heaps! which reminds me btw that i should back up often.

hi, Methods 1 and 2 didn't work for me. However I used the Diskdrill app, and was able to retrieve (or at least it looks like it) most everything except scanned files all starting with "scanxxxxx" and clearly any files after from after end of 2020. I am very pleased. Thanks for giving such a big helping hand !
Hi, Let me note that the files found with the "Quick Scan" method retain folder structure. In case your files are beyond recovery with the "Quick Scan", there is likely no way to recover the original structure. We apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused.

How do we clean out the drive we just recovered from so we can use it again? Nothing was wrong with my USB drive. It was me. I was the problem. In an attempt to organize my files, I deleted all of them. 🤣😂

Formatted wrong thumb drive by accident. Luckily it was the quick-format. I downloaded the Disk Drill software and paid the $89 (ouch) and it restored the 14gb of files. Thanks for the video.

After that second command go to the USB drive again and see the folder stars with "G" and boom here what you lost....😍😍😍💯❣️ It worked for me.

Wow thank you so much for this tutorial. I recovered my file via Disk Drill from my USB. You see while i was working the excel froze so i ended the program creating recovery files. I saved new files while deleted the old files so as not to confuse it with the recovery file. While doing so i accidentally deleted a file which i shouldnt. I was on the brink of giving up onto my last attempt . Thanks heaps! which reminds me btw that i should back up often.

hi, Methods 1 and 2 didn't work for me. However I used the Diskdrill app, and was able to retrieve (or at least it looks like it) most everything except scanned files all starting with "scanxxxxx" and clearly any files after from after end of 2020. I am very pleased. Thanks for giving such a big helping hand !
