come on slap, how ya gonna start off the list with a legend? you can say the Super Bird and Daytona are controversial for sure but to call them one of the "ugliest cars in NASCAR" is just as controversial. i'm on the other side of that fence, ever since i laid eyes on the super bird it's been one of my favorite cars, and if it was so bad why did they revive an entire brand to do a run of superbirds in 2016?

Legend has it ( like from the 80's ) that many wing cars sat in new car dealer show rooms for years and some had the nose and wing removed in order to make them more sellable. The only reason these cars sell for big $ today is because they were low production.

I have to respectfully disagree about the Daytona/Superbird. It's definitely not the prettiest car from that era, but there were loads of innovations in that car, it looks fast sitting still, and it's one of the most iconic American cars ever made. My only gripe with it is that it seemed to be 40 ft long... the thing goes on forever
I never did like the style of those Tauruses. God, those bubble lights are gross smh the next design for them looked WAY better. Those ugly little Fords were fast, though
The 89-94 Pontiac is one that had to grow on me, but now it's one of my favorite car designs in stock car racing. That 95 variant is an abomination. Yeesh.
But the COT definitely deserves this #1 spot. As great as it was for the sport in terms of safety, it's just... God-awful. It looks like it belongs on that "NASCAR Racers" cartoon from the 2000s. Or in someone's Hot Wheels collection. Then there was that stupid spoiler that was flipping cars over if they got a little sideways. What a stupid race car.

Totally agree on the 1998 Taurus. Take a street car that looks like it was designed by a blind monkey and turn it into a race car (a four door abomination of a race car) and it doesn't get any better.
The Delta 88 and Le Sabre looked like ass, but what do you expect from a racecar based on the cars that you saw driving with their blinker on all the way to the bingo parker, where grandma kind of got it into a parking space. Dealers had signs that said "You must be this old to buy this car" on the showroom. If you weren't at least 70, they wouldn't sell you one.
The Celebrity looked the same going forward and backwards.
The COT had a wing that looked like something a 17 year old Asian kid would order off of ebay and put on his hand me down Accord trying to make it cool, along with 37 stickers on the windows and a "Powered by Honda" windshield banner and fake V-TEC badges.

I think it was one of the best looking cars ever made. Also, one does not simply "fix" a '68 Charger. Perfection can not be fixed. It can be made more aerodynamic, sure, but it can not be fixed since to be able to be fixed, something needs to be broken and the '68 Charger is about as far from broken as you can get. The '68 Charger is, to me, THE definitive American Muscle Car.

Great list, I had no idea that most of these models raced in NASCAR. But I do just want to make a few comments on the COT. I agree it was ugly as sin, however I did follow this cars development for a couple of years. I agree the wing looked weird but what they were saying at the time was it would eliminate the dirty air that was becoming a bigger issue in the previous years (funny thing is it got worse after this cars development).

The Daytona and Superbird are my single favorite Nascars of all time. Disagree heavily on that one. The rest is solid.

I never really liked the Ford Fusions in neither of the years. I just thought they looked really ugly. I'm glad they switched to Mustangs which actually look pretty cool. I also was not a fan of the design of the Dodge Chargers from 2004. The ones from years after and even the Intrepids before looked so much better. I also didn't like the Impalas from 2010-2012. Again they just look really hideous to me. This was probably the first miss in my opinion because I loved all the designs and models of Chevy stockcars before and after the Impala except for the C.O.T. but that wasn't really Chevy's fault because they had to comply with that rule at the time. I even liked SS from 2013-2017 which everyone I know hated.

I think we all knew what number 1 was gonna be. Every car on the field looked like similar bricks with different manufacturer logos, though I do respect the safety aspects of it (obviously excluding the wing).

I don’t know why but the idea of compacts in nascar is my favorite thing ever. Imagine a little Nash Metro running circles around the competition at an early 50s short track. Actually, hilariously, the car that would become the Metropolitan was tested at Raleigh Motor Speedway in 1953, and were even certified by NASCAR! Imagine a field of ‘53 corvettes and olds 88s and in the middle of all of them is a little four banger Nash Metro! Sounds awesome.

I became a fan of NASCAR around 2006-2007 as a 6 year old (mainly thanks to the 'Cars' movie) and fell in love with the Gen-4 racing of the mid-2000's. With that said, I pretty much grew up with the COT car, and even as a naïve 7 year old I was appalled by the design of the car. I always thought that it'd be a temporary thing and then they'd revert back to the Gen 4, but that obviously never happened. With that said, I'm really optimistic about the Gen 7 car and I can't wait for the racing that package will bring to the table, and hopefully I get to see a Gen 7 race at Atlanta in the next few years (gonna' be interesting seeing my 'home' track turn into a mini-superspeedway, especially not having gone to a race there since October 2008).
