  • Hello everyone, I'm pleased to finally release this montage with decent audio quality for all to enjoy. Many of you might have noticed that this is the third time I released this montage. Check the "Production Issues" section for more details. This montage's clips were gathered from mid-January to mid-April of this year. It's really hard to be stylish with Gunner and the effort vs reward isn't great compared to Brawler and Swordie which are clip factories in comparison. But it's still so much fun to play as Gunner and all of the SEs and move animations are really nice to experience, even in short sequences. There's also a shocking lack of brown girls not just in Smash, but gaming in general. Such an injustice! Take this as my official statement to producers of animated media. Please broaden your horizons and create more cartoon brown girls. Particularly in leading roles with good character designs and VA performances. Regardless, I hope you can appreciate this montage as a low-key, relaxed viewing experience. I like listening to this one before sleeping. I was generally in a low place during the clip farming phase but doing better than last year. It was a time where I did nothing but work, clip hunt, cook, self-care, and dance to music in the dark. My general purpose in life, relationships with others, and future all felt at a crossroads. Hopefully I was at least successful in conveying my inner existential questioning in my work. I'd like to say it paid off since things are better and I have a much clearer picture of a promising future that drives me forward.

    Production Issues:
It cannot be understated how many random things have troubled the production of my final four montages. My clip collecting ended in mid-May and I haven't played a console game alone since. I initially recorded all the clips for this montage in HDR since I thought it would look better. It seemed that way when I compared two samples, but after recording the montage that way I quickly learned that it felt like my eyes were bleeding. Also, I used a terribly compressed song file on my initial release which made it feel like my ears were bleeding. After unlisting that first release, I sourced an ideal audio file, but didn't realize that converting it to .wav for my video editor made it sound really strained and off. This was abnormal since I had used .wav and .flac compression before and they're supposed to be the gold standard lossless formats. Comparing the audio file waveforms in audacty didn't show any discernable difference either. Eventually, I remembered that I faced this problem before and adjusted my troubleshooting queries in my browser to involve updates or encoding issues. There was supposed to be a drop-down menu in audacity that allowed 32-bit signed floating as an option. I remember seeing it before, but my encoding options were more limited than I remember. Then I stumbled upon some forum posts that reminded me Audacity had FFMPEG as a dependency. I simply updated FFMPEG and voila! 32-bit signed floating as an option and my file conversion didn't make my song choice audio sound like trash anymore. Having poor audio quality on an upload bothers me a ton! Thankfully I am switching all future productions to KDenlive on an Arch-based distro where I can simply use pacman -Syu to keep all my programs updated. My production workflow will be a lot less bloated without DaVinci Resolve and using a tiling window manager will help as well.
