The 70s produced some of the best music ever. Many of the songs evoked emotions and were thought provoking . They were so beautifully written and performed.
That's the time of early childhood for me, but the songs of that timeframe means a great deal to me. Best songs ever. It started losing impact afterwards.
haha yes I was 12-13 and I totally forgot about this song and came across it just by chance , it was about her and Leon Russel and her. she was the one who wrote the piano part for Layla on Derrick and the Dominoes supposedly. and I Looked her name up on youtube and this song came up , I loved this song when I was a kid as well....
Outside the rain begins And it may never end So cry no more On the shore, a dream Will take us out to sea Forever more forever more Thank you, Rita, for those beautiful lyrics and amazing song. Listening in 2024!!!!
1977..when I was a child of 11years old in Korea. Recently RUclips lead me here and make me listen to this beautiful song.. She seems to close my eyes..
I think it's because real talent was displayed back then, with real musicians, real songwriters, and singers with a real voice not needing to be auto-tuned.
@@ABxx2011 you are spot on! That is a special moment in the song. Rita is the perfect singer to deliver the message in this song. I have never met her personally but from all the interviews through the years I've watched with her I can tell she's a very spiritual and kind person and all of that comes through in this beautiful song as well making it even more special.
I love the honesty of the pre-video age. Here, you're all alone with Rita while she sings to you in all the splendor of the back-to-nature 1970s. It's not meant to be anything more than what it is. Lord, please take us back.
There could never be talent like this ever more. I am so thankful I lived in that era when people like Rita and so many more fabulously talented singers ruled the air waves. We are all alone now, in a talentless world.
Trust me, the talent is out there but the industry doesn't care and will not promote that or embrace it. The concept of musicians working together in a group does not fit the business model where their objectives.. it truly sucks but you could find great talent here on RUclips you just have to search for it
Miss this music. Yes, radio stations do play 1970s-80s, but it's always Kansas, Boston or Journey. That doesn't take me back. Rita Coolidge takes me back. Beautiful soothing music and a natural beauty. No hair extensions or plastic surgery. Just a naturally beautiful woman
1977 I was 11 years old when this was playing in rotation on the am Radio that sat on our kitchen counter, and memories of my brothers and I getting ready for school in the morning. Memories of simple times and family ( Smiling and Crying 🙂😭💖💖
Guess what? I turned 11 in late 1977 and have similar memories of Rita and this song. Thanks for sharing your thoughts 3 years ago, I hope you're doing well. 😃
I don’t know why exactly, but this wonderful song and performance really moves me. It stirs up deep wells of emotion in me. Some long forgotten associations with my childhood, perhaps.
About this stirring up emotions: I have the same with this song that has been lingering in my mind for decades, until recently I figured out what song it was and by whom, by using Google's "what song" feature and simply humming it. I have the theory that your "long forgotten associations" just mean that back then at the time the song was popular, you already liked it a lot. Just like I did and still do.
I had this on the flip side of my 45 rpm copy of "Higher And Higher" and always had to play both songs back to back...Rita's voice is so smooth, calming and beautiful, you just wanted to hear her twice.....
We all will meet again. I miss my dad. Found him in his home alone. Gone. He died a few years ago. And my wife died 3 yrs ago. Suicide. Prayers with you.
Beautiful Rita, Coolidge, the woman I fell in love with 1977 with that voice of hers, calming and relaxing, it just did something to my soul. I have missed hearing her until I found her again today this is music that will never get old. It’s music with the lyrics and strong emotion.
What an enormously beautiful song! sung by a beautiful woman, profound and magical in meaning, I could listen to this all day and each time it touches my heart.. Thank you Rita Coolidge. This song is forever.
Rita Coolidge is a gorgeous woman, beautiful & exotic (half Cherokee Indian, half Southern). I love her so much :) ... Both the singer and the song are beautiful, truly one of the best love songs of all time. Sad feelings, heartfelt lyrics and melody ...
I hate to disappoint you but the truth is rita is just a character not a real person. Many transgendered people have played the role. All entertainers are transgendered.
This is one my all time favorites. Especially her voice and the drum (ending part is really one of a kind drum playing....) With such a beautiful melody and drum, this is one of best songs ever recorded.. This song brings me lot of memories....
She's so beautiful! So sad knowing singers like that haven't existed for a while, not since the 70's and 80's! I'm 53 and I find it so heart wrenching being nostalgic and how time is so fleeting! Kinda like Triumph's song "Killing Time" talk about heartbreaking lyrics.
Rita Coolidge was married to Kris Kristofferson when she had an international hit with “We’re All Alone” (1977). In contrast to her other cover that year, “(Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher and Higher,” this version stuck close to the original (1976) by singer-songwriter Boz Scaggs. A TOP-TEN HIT FOR MISS COOLIDGE❕💙🎼💚
I had a crush on this woman when this song came out, even though I was just a kid. She was beautiful and she sang beautiful music. Thank God for RUclips!
The sad song and easy to be listened... I always sing this song with my family...Rita sang with the deepest heart and I love the guitar sound which bring into sadness....one song will be remembered in pop musical where we are still live...Boz & Rita you are the best with different character singing this song... both version are awesome....God take care your health both.
Never heard this, until I was in the hospital (post kidney transplant surgery) in 2015. Was on one of the audio stations, of only like 13 channels a hospital gets lol. But this tune has stayed with me since.
That gave me chills. I can envision you, a new dad staring at your two babies. I have always thought of music as a kind of soundtrack to our lives. Thank you for that comment.
This is my first time seeing this video, I turned 11 in late 1977 and remember this song well. From what I was told, decades ago, there are hundreds of promotional videos like this that never aired on commercial TV. They were produced to showcase the talent on film and mailed to broadcast outlets, etc. So glad we have this available.
Mystical...I was 11 and this song brought me to another place...I didn't think of it as a 'love song' but more of a poem about an adventure of sorts...
Fun Fact: This song is the most successful and most well known song ever song by a singer who's parents were Native American Indians. Makine Rita the most successful Native American singer of all time.
In my opinion, Rita Coolidge n Anne Murray n Carly Simon are among the natural talents who solemnly sing from their heart n soul. Do you agree ?
Yes good point they are all naturals
Yes I do!!!!
I agree with your opinion.....natural and raw talent
They are the best.
Please let's not forget Karen Carpenter and Linda Ronstadt
The 70s produced some of the best music ever. Many of the songs evoked emotions and were thought provoking . They were so beautifully written and performed.
Yes, the 70s is awesome, I'm still there when I sing lol. 😁😇🥰
No doubt
That's the time of early childhood for me, but the songs of that timeframe means a great deal to me. Best songs ever. It started losing impact afterwards.
I don't pretend and live my life with a. Married man:,!!!
And, I've been hanging with a malle friend...
@@Julie-p8n Huh?
I was 12 years old and I loved this song then and now! I think about the innocence I had before life happened. Can anybody relate?
I was six. Recall listening to it on a foggy Florida morning before school. Those where the good ol days.
haha yes I was 12-13 and I totally forgot about this song and came across it just by chance , it was about her and Leon Russel and her. she was the one who wrote the piano part for Layla on Derrick and the Dominoes supposedly. and I Looked her name up on youtube and this song came up , I loved this song when I was a kid as well....
yep i was 10 on holiday with my family im 57 now
Yup, that's everyone when we begin to grow up.
Yes!!! 1977 is my favorite year! 11-12 years old and really discovering music!
Rarely will you ever hear a song so gentle and full of hope
We took music like this for granted in the 70s, I don't think we realised how fortunate we were to live in such a time.
Amen. How I miss It.
I first heard this when I was a young Black kid. It was so calming and I listened to the lyrics and got through rough times. Also focused on me.
I was born in 1971 and I couldn’t agree more
I agree! I was born in 74 and I wish my memory was better than it is now. This song helps with that ❤

Rita Coolidge is the most under rated singer. One of the best, IMO
Married an asshole
She is gorgeous 😍
I don't think she is underrated
She was definitely underrated. She has a beautiful voice.
Outside the rain begins
And it may never end
So cry no more
On the shore, a dream
Will take us out to sea
Forever more forever more
Thank you, Rita, for those beautiful lyrics and amazing song. Listening in 2024!!!!
It was written by Boz Scaggs but she sang it better
1977..when I was a child of 11years old in Korea. Recently RUclips lead me here and make me listen to this beautiful song..
She seems to close my eyes..
Why are there not songs like this been written anymore and performed so beautifully like Rita. I could listen to her all day.
I think it's because real talent was displayed back then, with real musicians, real songwriters, and singers with a real voice not needing to be auto-tuned.
The writer of this song is Boz Scaggs not Rita Coolidge and he still writing songs.
This was 77 I was in the 3rd grade the 70s had some awesome music not like this hiphop rap stuff
Yes, Taylor Swift eat your heart out.
Remember when music used to be romantic. Those were the days.
I still sing like I'm in the 70s lol
The more people you lose in your life and the older you get, the more meaningful this song becomes and harder to listen to without crying...
It brings tears to even the strongest man with compassion.
It brings tears to even the strongest man with compassion.
I so agree with you. Especially when she sings, "Close your eyes and dream, and you can be with me..."

Yep. And the innocence of our youth harks all the way back to our lost Eden.
I was a kid back then too.
Yes indeed I was 13 years old and even then it got me misty
There could never be talent like this ever more. I am so thankful I lived in that era when people like Rita and so many more fabulously talented singers ruled the air waves. We are all alone now, in a talentless world.
Indeed
There is still talent, they are just not being promoted the same way. Technology has killed music unfortunately.
@@cindypruitt9534 Exactly!
While serving in the Navy during the 70's she was my favorite artist.

Boz Scaggs, thanks for this poem made a song, Rita Coolidge, thanks for your sublime voice singing this song. My heart is in chills.
