Yep, first off all you don’t need a Air vent in it because there are a flu liner, and it’s not a open 🔥 fire Second, you could of Case all that in concrete which a sheet off ply with the lintels too, because now it’s going to hard for the next person to patch it up underneath etc.!
Don't need the vent if it's a logburner, looks to high as well but if that's the spec, plastic vents draw more air than terracotta but just put a bigger one in. Never bother with all them lintols and flue starters always shutter and concrete, looking good though 👍
You only need 2inchs round the pots you should of laid blocks flat up the back to pick up the bend as for knocking up the gear there's a bag of dust in each bag of vermiculite
Hi Charlie Amy & gang great to see you all again thought ye were gone off you tube was getting a bit worried 😟. Great job on the chimney nice & neat 👌. Keep up the great work team Collison 👌👍😉
Hi, yes built a fair few private houses. Obviously that is a decorative fire surround so face bricks can be used. The architect should earn his money and specify structural size of the fireplace and what materials that are to be used to be compatible with what ever appliance is used. A class 1 fireplace as flue liners that are 225mm diameter internally and I feel are the best as it gives the client options regarding different appliances. I would have built the stack differently but that's me. I'm a firm believer that a brickie works hard enough and architects need to put as much specification as they can on the plans, not just the measurements but specify the materials. So Charlie and gang well done. Construction industry is a constant learning curve
Vermiculite in it mate ? Great work on that chimney back in the 90s used to build em in to lots of houses now hardly ever. Nice to see one and a good job .You got paper plans yet mate ? Justin 👍
Ive start my own gang last few months you have taught me loads, I’ve had the same chimney packs on site when you get up higher make sure your plumbing up the flu or your cavity will go to shit haha one tip from me hah happy Xmas guys and girl
Nice work as usual, I do have a couple of questions though. If it's a functional chimney; how comes the architects used a plastic vent brick? & did they use refractory mortar? .. I know your job is just to lay them, but just curious.
Does the 2nd house get a chimney? I think the flue insulation is called Vermiculite unless thats a trade name, used some years ago to insulate a small chimney.
Nice stuff. Ideally where you quoins meet your internal block work they would project 30mm to allow for thickness of dab, board and skim. Darbo looks nice colour.
Is it vermiculite Charlie 🤔. That is one big lump of a chimney. Love the brickwork on mate , mint 👌🏼. We are doing some lovely English bond with re claims fir A&E , looking smart 🧱👍🏽
Hi mate, I'm about to do my first chimney on a private new build. Did you put any dpc in when you reverted the inside skin of the chimney to external when you got a bit higher? I've been going through the videos and I'm scratching my head at this bit trying to work it out.
Surprised you need a line to do a 3 brick run!! Blimey 2 blokes who go to the gym cant pick that up, heavy weekend? Is the word your looking for Vermiculite? I used to buil;d fireplaces back in the 80's and this is not a dig at you, but the Architect, when I first saw you had built it out of celcon blocks I did wonder how they would stand up to the heat! (unless it was being rendered with fireproof render) I gave a sigh of relief when you took them out but was surprised when you put bricks in there instead of fire reflective blocks (which heat up and reflect the heat back into the room) but the Icing on the cake was to install a PLASTIC vent into a area of FIRE!!!!! should have been a clay tray & brick, but that was years ago before 'modern thermal' practises!!!
Loking good but how does the plaster finish up to the brickwork on the returns would it have been better to project the bricks to a little beyond the plaster line
i did mention a nice brick feature fireplace few weeks back im glad u got the go ahead as it will make a world of difference and show ur tasty work off ass ppl then gather around the fire fair play charlie enjoying your vids from day one will keep enjoying them stay safe over there i hear its mental with covid u amy your dad and cute sis stay safe and have a great xmas and new yeary and we will all do the summer dance los boys praying for the heat and good health to return quikly stay safe .....robbie ...xx ireland
Just a tip for you Charlie I would have walled the blocks closer to the liner all the way around to save on mixing as much vermiculite to fill the void
the blocks should be built as close to the liner as poss apart from being a stronger job you would save on time and money on the vermiculite first time iv seen a plastic vent and there should be a lintel over the vent as the bricks are resting on a plastic vent.. terracotta would be more suitable for a chimney which is non combustible and you only need a vent in the room not the chimney do you really need a line to run 3 bricks
Its broken bond and it's quarter bond so it's fine! Not a lot of measurements do work to bricks so Charlie as done it correctly. People need to look around at properties and you'll see lots of broken bond. It's not a problem to us brickies just seems to rub the want to be's up the wrong way.
@@malcolmhaynes1424 not a want to be mate 5 year apprentice bricklayer so just asking it could have been done as a feature OR the architect needs to do more about brick measurements to accomodate the correct bond

That's the only thing in brickwork I havnt had a chance to build yet. Don't do much stuff like that on site any more

@@craighughescraig6096 you still need a vent for log burners mate. Any house built after 2008 and any house all together for anything over 5kw.

I’m sure you only need 50 mm around the flue for velicumite , that was use loads of bags mate ,
Great vids though 👍

Hi great chimney work. Don’t forget damp tray around joist area. Well you won’t forget really as you are a great Bricky
I know this is old, but been watching this series over breakfast- keep wondering where the tray is?? Can't see a tray anywhere on the first lift?
Quality work guys

In the back of the chimney, one single stretcher in the center of header course might have been nice.
Current situation with your Barnet is quality, much more eclectic artiste and quirkyish, keep that.

Them line tentioners look wicked all types are a godsend but they're the bollocks who makes them or know any places u can get them mate?
First video on how to build a chimney!
Am I mistaken but won’t the plastic ventilation pieces melt if that’s a fireplace?
I was thinking the same also the smoke from fire would flow right through it
Me to very strange plastic near a fire
This is what was supplied by the manufacturer
its not an open fire ,will be a log burning stove i think or something similar
@@mace106 makes sense
you not got the bond right there son 3 course of headers in that???

Charlie whats the deal with the plastic vent will that not melt or am I being a melt 😅 please explain 👍🏻
Shouldn’t be any combustible materials within the fire chamber . Zero! Should be a stainless sleeve and cover.

Laying block flat across that first course of brick on top of the stack. 2 great big air pockets/voids. Pretty poor.
plastic vent with all that heat ? not the best of ideas charlie terracotta surely
