Actually in the idw comics Super Sonic ends one "boss fight" in a matter of seconds and says something along the lines of "no time to be fancy". So I think he definitely has the ability to end most fights almost instantly, but chooses not to, since that wouldn't be cool

Sonic can time travel break the light barrier and the fact he had infinite speed if they give him he's cannon speed every game would be over in like a second
I feel like I should point that being able to run at light speed doesn't mean that you can do it instantly, or at least not without getting a proper stance/impulse preparation. Usain bolt is the fastest man on earth but he needs buildup and momentum first. Also most of sonics near-lightspeed feats come from assistance via devices and relics that can process his speed (e.g. the chaos emeralds for chaos control, the rings in a light speed dash, the time travel posts, the wisps, cyberspace) or by pushing his powers to his limit via transformations (e.g. Super sonic, darkspine sonic, hyper sonic, cyber sonic). In essence, he is not broken right off the bat but his potential, deep-seated power, and adaptability are very high.
The manuals in CD state that Sonic himself needs to run at these speeds to travel. The posts are just a game mechanic, hence why we do not see them outside of gameplay. In canon he's just doing it all himself. Same way none of the special stages are real, they're just there to feel rewarding. But current, Frontiers Sonic, absolutely outshines light speed feats by trillions of times. The Titans alone are moving at endgame Forces speeds. Each one getting progressively faster and stronger. Even with that being the case, Sonic adapts so quickly that each fight is easier than the last. With Giganto being the hardest, and The End dying in a single hit. Super Sonic 2 is in a whole other conception compared to every feat we've seen from Sonic before, but current Frontiers Base and Super are pure stupid broken.
@@pufflord_gamesonicsoloesyo2365 regarding cd, he would still have to build up his speed. like he cant immediately go lightspeed and is not shown to do so in the animations for cd Also I said MOST of his near-lights peed feats. Without a doubt he has certainly gotten stronger and faster as of frontiers and super sonic has fought some top level bouts, but prior he needed some assistance or he just wasn't as fast. In adventure 1 and two he needed the ancient light to preform the light speed attack, but no longer needs anything like that to preform moves like the ones we see in frontiers. One last thing I just thought of, how is eggman surviving any of this. If sonic is moving near lightspeed in most of his attacks how is eggmans machinery able to take the force of an attack at that speed or keep up with him using simple thrusters? Also where is the confirmation that special stages (or rather the realms they are in) don't exist in canon.
@@themememaster7844 There is no solid confirmation, but if the special stages were real it would mess a whole lot of stuff up. For example the 8-bit games have you just find the Emeralds, and those games canonically take place before the 16-bit games with some exclusions. Ultimately I could be wrong, but there's legit no reason why we just didn't get any cutscene or mention or anything of the special stages for 32 years. Eggman can survive all this because he's a super genius who knows how to build dumb strong stuff, I mean the death egg took 14 hits. I'm not saying Adventure Sonic didn't need help, but simply saying that Sonic is way more busted even in the early games then most the fans give him credit for. Like Chaos Control right, Shadow's moving instantaneously from one spot to another. Sonic keeps up with that. And it took him like 2 days to get to that point? His growth rate is seriously nonsensically busted. N while yes he can't instantly achieve light speed in CD, referring to SA2 feats, by that point I do believe he can.
@@pufflord_gamesonicsoloesyo2365 you raise a good point but it's also worth considering the other characters in the world around him. None of them are light speed but based on the fact that some of the damage they cause eggmans mechs they either have more mass then they know what to do with or they move at minimum the speed of the fastest sports car in their strikes. Their force seems to be powerful enough to bash machines left and right and even combat magical creatures. It doesn't necessarily make them as fast as sonic but it makes sense why their reflexes or durability is high enough to deal with a near lightspeed being. In other words I'm saying that it might be the case where speed of sound is considered a top normal person athlete (at least for the anthro animals, but maybe eggman as well) and light speed is considered normal superhuman. My question is what is eggmans machinery made out of? The strongest materials and metals on earth can't withstand a spinning ball that averages the speed of sound, much less one that can do it repeatedly in short intervals. (I know this is kinda late but I was in the middle of something at the moment)
There's a reason why both 2D and especially 3D games never make Sonic run at supersonic speeds as Sega claimed, because that will make them UNPLAYABLE.
The issue with playing a game with Sonic running faster (especially games with speed boosts) is that we perceive it as an outside force would, which makes it more difficult to control. A better way of doing it would be like they do it in the Flash show, where we see it from his perspective, where he's running at a normal speed, but everything around him is slowed down, because technically we're playing as Sonic, so we should perceive them as he does, so enemies, obstacles, and the time itself should all slow down as he 'speeds up', while the character still moves and controls the same way.
that would be lame to look at though unless it was done in like an interesting way like maybe a scripted segment or like a power up of some kind bc i feel like if i were to be playing sonic and then everytime i get a good speed everything around me is just cheesy slow motion I'd get annoyed with it

My theory at this rate is Sonic CAN go this fast but it's like playing it like this. He just literally can't comprehend this speed either unless he's running across the ocean or something
Personally, I've always liked the theory that he usually doesn't do supersonic speeds in-game because it would cause serious collateral damage. His *whole thing* is having fun by fighting to protect nature and freedom, and exploring the planet. He has to limit himself to protect the things he cares about. At minimum, the constant sonic boom (Sonic Boom, SONIC BOOM) would shatter countless windows, give everyone hearing damage, and terrify non-sapient animals into near-permanent hiding. _Everyone would hate him._ In-game, he already exerts enough force on his environment to break some rock walls, and can generate hurricane force winds. Ramp that up by even a little more, and he'd be a constant natural disaster. The only times we really see him reach or exceed supersonic speeds naturally is when he's well clear of any nature and non-Eggman civilization that could be damaged, (Running up the giant chain in Sonic CD, or down the space elevator in Colors) And then there are the cases when the normal laws of physics don't apply, like Super Sonic, which is when we see light speed movement with no negative repercussions, like he's The Flash or something. But those are limited-time events, and he otherwise has to limit himself. Because while trouble keeps him running faster, let us not forget that it's to save the planet from disaster.
2:38 I randomly paused it at this point to go do something, but why the heck did someone’s voice come in randomly? Also my OCD cannot get over the fact that he never does the “final trick” when he jumps through those rainbow hoops. Just never feels complete.
I would like for Sega to introduce a trope in future games of Sonic having to get to the opposite side of the planet REALLY fast once per game. Just let him go full blast once per game. If Mario games can start with grassy/forest levels for decades and Sonic endlessly reuses Green Hill, why not, right?

At minimum, the constant sonic boom (Sonic Boom, SONIC BOOM) would shatter countless windows, give everyone hearing damage, and terrify non-sapient animals into near-permanent hiding. _Everyone would hate him._
In-game, he already exerts enough force on his environment to break some rock walls, and can generate hurricane force winds. Ramp that up by even a little more, and he'd be a constant natural disaster.
The only times we really see him reach or exceed supersonic speeds naturally is when he's well clear of any nature and non-Eggman civilization that could be damaged, (Running up the giant chain in Sonic CD, or down the space elevator in Colors)
And then there are the cases when the normal laws of physics don't apply, like Super Sonic, which is when we see light speed movement with no negative repercussions, like he's The Flash or something.
But those are limited-time events, and he otherwise has to limit himself. Because while trouble keeps him running faster, let us not forget that it's to save the planet from disaster.
Watching this video in 2x makes it even better fr
The game is literally breaking as you play
Average sonic unleashed speedrun:
2:38 I randomly paused it at this point to go do something, but why the heck did someone’s voice come in randomly? Also my OCD cannot get over the fact that he never does the “final trick” when he jumps through those rainbow hoops. Just never feels complete.
i recently realized you can finish the final tricks so until now i didnt know about it
Archie Sonic vs every conceivable being including within the 4th wall
Sonic going fast enough that the cameraman can't catch up xD
I like to think Sonic has no limits, he just runs as fast as he wants/is necessary but doesn't overdo it so he doesn't hurt anyone.
This is like a third of his actual speed
Sonic specifically reduces the speed in order to have time to react to everything that happens
5:48 "WoOoAoaohH!"
RIP Sonic
I like how (except on the long one) you made sure to not boost on the rail. Never really even thought about how that shouldn't be possible 😁
sonic quite literally teleporting to the enemies: JUDGEMENT
First I saw Classic Sonic and said "Uhhh... I don't see anything wrong?"
But then Modern Sonic appeared and- GOD.
You could argue that he slows down a lot to he makes sure no one is getting hurt
Sonic can out run a litteral black hole dude
Classic Sonic: just a normal day
Modern sonic: absolute chaos
If you look at sonic cd intro you can see classic sonic is also fast
@@osman173 I didn’t say he wasn’t I’m just talking about this video
@@lukeplaysgames20 oh ok
we don't need chaos control with this one 🗣🔥
These neck breaking speeds is why we play Sonic the hedgehog!
Gotta boost, goose!
Now that’s what you call a Sonic Boom
I would like for Sega to introduce a trope in future games of Sonic having to get to the opposite side of the planet REALLY fast once per game. Just let him go full blast once per game. If Mario games can start with grassy/forest levels for decades and Sonic endlessly reuses Green Hill, why not, right?
