  • The oil pump is contained in the timing cover, and is driven directly by the crankshaft. Since the timing cover is aluminum, the cover is subject to wear from contaminants in the oil. The cover can be expensive to replace, so here are a few suggestions on how to repair it. When ever the cover is off, inspect the oil pump gears and replace them if needed. The tolerances are very small, so any amount of wear will make a difference. When you reassemble your oil pump gear set, remember to coat them liberally with assembly lube, thoroughly packing the lube into every space. This will insure a good prime for the oil pump. If you don't have assembly lube, then clean, new bearing grease or petroleum jelly can be used. Never install the gears dry, they will destroy themselves and the engine very quickly. #classiccar #musclecar #landrover

I started with a bastard file, and finished with 220. In this video, it is at about the 20 minute mark: ruclips.net/video/E09aAtpx6bQ/видео.html
