You can fix the tailgate, the outer bezel is secured by 2 smaller screws from the inside and then you carefully pry it off from the outside, there are plastic friction clips holding it. Then unbolt the handle assy. See if you can lube it to save it. I'm pretty sure GM still has them new if it is junk. The locks on the outer sides of the gate are still available from GM if needed. The rods that go on each side from the handle to the locks are discontinued. They get rusty and jam up. Take them out and clean them up and paint them, if they are junk they can be copied from scratch. The plastic clips on the ends are still available. Also when you slam shut the gate, put your hands wide to the sides instead of one hand in the middle because sometimes only one side latches. Then pull on each top corner to see if it moves to check that both sides are latched. The mid gate is like this too, always spread your hands wide and push firmly to close, then check each side for full engagement. Use Gtechniq C4 on your dull cladding. I have 2 videos on my channel if you wanna see how it looks.
Wipe new trim restoration will last about a year least here in FL when I applied it to my truck plastic trim. Up in Michigan I don't know how long it will last due to your weather conditions. Just make sure to tape off where the paint meets the plastic. Wipe new will stain/Mar the clear coat. Learned from experience not fun.
Had the exact model avalanche bought used. Had to put a water pump & a used rear end in it at 100,000 miles. Couldnt keep coolant but to a certain level, then the pinion gear broke in the rear end which had a roar in it when the tires were swapped out to originals. The first owner did a good job covering up the issues on it. I got rid of it after the valves started rattling after 89,000 more miles. Just be aware most trucks up for sale after 80,000 miles plus are in the used car market for a reason.7
Got mine in South Bend Upper Indiana. just by Niles Michigan for 1800 because of a transmission issue. No Second Gear. Paid 1200 to get it Completely rebuilt now i have a Rock solid Beast for 3k. Only rust was a couple small spots that are being treated and covered by Claddy additions. WHOLE light replacements were only like 180 on amazon for both sides upper and lower. good truck bro and the upgrades don't hurt the pockets like my Camaro. Do get the CAI ( Cold Air Intake ) like for under $100 you will definitely feel the difference out the Vortech.
@@CaptainThirdGen Do you think it's a good choice? In Russia this is a very rare car. Everyone looks like a dinosaur. Not everywhere is ready to repair. And there are no body parts at all!
yeah I would imagine parts would be tricky to get in Russia. In america it shares most major components with a lot of other vehicles, so parts are very easy to come by usually. I think theyre very good trucks, but yeah being in Russia may make it tricky
I have the same avalanche. Theirs a rain x cleaner that you use to clean the rubber gasket that goes around the window track. Clean it with that and then use use a spray lube. Look up the videos in youtube. That will help your window issues. I had the same problem.
I'm about to buy a 1 owner 2002 z71 tomorrow with 107k miles. Its a michigan truck, the fenders are just starting to bubble, and the "cab corners" are rusty, so the lower portion of the cladding isn't mounted 100% anymore. Frame is solid. In the spring, I plan to attempt rust repair, or if I think its too much, I'll take it somewhere to get fixed. Can't complain though for $5k.
I was on the highway driving my gfs dads avalanche (2002) he bought it literally when it came out so it meant a lot to him , i was doing about 70 in the HOV lane in GA and a car brake checked the car that was in front of me, i hit my brakes hard man all wheels locked up and it spun out and hit the wall, there was literally minor damage the spin out saved me and my gf from a really bad head on, we hit 1 other car it was this little girl she said its alright it was a scratch the size of maybe a 8 inch string so nothing, the guy that brake checked me saw me spin out cause of him and took off, pretty sure the truck saved us, its a pretty badass truck planing on buying it and putting a corvette servo and a nice heads cam intake setup. its a little ugly but thats alright 💀
my father also bought this Avalanche from new in 2002. He was cut off by a lady in 2011 and the truck took the impact very well. Shop fixed it and 10 years later the truck is still serving us proudly.
@@CaptainThirdGen the cops actually told us that if we wanted to file a report we’d get a ticket because we hit the wall. That or go on about my day, so i was hesitant because I wasn’t sure itd drive straight but somehow it felt the same, this happened about 4 months ago and i just got around today to fix my gfs window and mine because they wouldn’t go down
Thing I don't like on my 2013 avalanche is the box side box that is it doesn't lock at all I push key in and no turn my dad says put tools in it and more but it doesn't lock I say but parents lol
NO! If you plan on using it on a regular basis and dont have no history of how its been serviced. 02 or 03 probably no more than 2500.00. Get a good mechanic to check it out before you buy it! Avoid a money pit!

Great tip!
Mothers back to black is good for the trim
i tried meguiars black plastic restorer on my trailblazer with dissapointing results. Ill have to try the Mother's variant next
Is one with 200,000 worth buying? No issues and what would u think the value on it is
All depends on maintenance. Some trucks run fine at 230k miles, and some are shit at just 90k.

5k not bad for a 107k mile 4x4. Hope it treats you well! Enjoy it man

Use raptor liner on the plastics
Thing I don't like on my 2013 avalanche is the box side box that is it doesn't lock at all I push key in and no turn my dad says put tools in it and more but it doesn't lock I say but parents lol
Bed line them I did it with raptor liner
I was trying to think of a paint that would stick to the plastic. I bet bed liner paint would work!
nice i just pick me up a 05
try teak oil on your plastics it worked perfect on mine
Cooking spray
Heat gun will kill the oxidization and itll last for 8 months but Goodluck its a tedious job
Heat gun does permanent damage to the plastic in the long term.
Take a torch to the plastic makes it new
that's a LOT of plastic to torch tho!
No, don't do this, it will only be temporary with permanent damage to the plastic.
