I met Doug at the Airport in Nashville in I think 1998. I was putting my luggage at that time in a locker and he walked by. He was the Grey Cup winning QB twice in Toronto and i was from Toronto and an Argo fan. He had a flight to catch in 5 mins but we chatted about the CFL and Hockey oddly enough. I always thought the NFL disrespected him no matter where he went. We didnt. His name is on our Cup. If I see him again I would only talk about his son. I hope he is ok. Good job Doug for your son and your wife and daugthter too. Your brother was a good one in the CFL too.

Damn they should make a movie of Doug flutie such a inspiration. Nothing beats hard work and self belief

Doug Flutie had come to Buffalo from across Lake Ontario. Here in Toronto, Canada, Doug had just led our Toronto Argonauts to back to back Grey Cup Championships in 1996 and '97. Then he wins, what? 13 games for Buffalo, but Ralph Wilson and Wade Phillips decide that wasn't good enough? Only idiots would make that decision.

DRIVES ME NUTS TO THIS DAY that the bills didn't play Flutie vs the Titans in the wildcard game...Wade was a good coach but WHAT WAS HE THINKING????

@@tyrearn9235 Yea it probably was. But to be honest, If Wade KNEW Flutie was his man, I'd start him anyway and tell the old man to sit back and enjoy a playoff victory. If he fired him? The whole league would be trying to hire him anyway.

As someone who had seen Doug Flutie dominate the Canadian Football League for 8 years, we were all shocked that Buffalo was so foolish about choosing Johnson over Doug Flutie. Doug was a winner every single place he played. He had won games for Buffalo ALL season, got you in the playoffs...AND YOU BENCH HIM??? Sorry Buffalo Bills, but THAT'S the reason you've NEVER won a Super Bowl. Decisions like that. You don't know a WINNER, even when he's right in front of you!

Wayne Gretzky of football, I must win or else, pound for pound possibly the greatest football player ever

He sure was great for his size. But how about: Barry Sanders- shorter, Walter Payton barely taller. Steve Tasker was slightly smaller, similar weight. (Sammy Baugh and Don Hutson taller but barely heavier- of course those two played in an era of smaller players than today). I wonder who was smaller in size and weight than Flutie and made a greater impact.

I remember my coach honking his horn for me to hurry up but had to watch the last play when Flutie threw the bomb. I tried to pull a Flutie in our last game and I got sacked, fumbled and they scored. Yeah Flutie I was not.

What made flutie great, he was a winner! He was exciting to watch and had a bag of tricks. He never gave up and had alot of drive. Phillips you stick to what got you there. Your a coach?

The miracle Boston College throw came on Thanksgiving Day. The game was unbelievable. The score changed hands back and forth. I was rooting for BC, and I thought they had it won, but Bernie K led Miami down the field one last time, and left only a few seconds on the clock. I was at my in-law's house, and they were calling me in for Thanksgiving dinner. Even though my brother-in-law was an all-state running back and a football hero, the family was not one to watch football on tv. I called into thekitchen, "I'll be right there, the game is almost over." After the miracle, I came into the kitchen, hollering, "He caught it! HE caught it !" They thought I was nuts, but they realized they were stuck with me.

Jim McMahon was totally mediocre and totally arrogant. Never could stand that asshole. Without Walter Payton and that defense, that team would have been crap. Flutie just didn't get the chance to play his own game there, plus he was still young. Ever see what Peyton Manning did his first season? He was CRAP, but they gave him the chance to develop because he was 6'5. You would think none of these coaches had ever seen or heard of Fran Tarkenton, who set a zillion records, was short, and scrambled like Flutie did.

Look at it this way: Ralph Wilson says: "You guys told me this Johnson kid was the stud, the messiah. The real deal. That's why we're paying so much. Now you're telling me were not gonna play him? We're gonna play this journeyman veteran? And now we gotta pay them both top dollar? I trusted you guys. You're supposed to be the experts". I guess that was his perspective. He was the one paying after all. And now they're telling him Johnson is going to be on the bench for two years.

I remember hearing on the radio in my car they were benching flutie for johnson for the titans playoff game and I almost crashed my car in a rage. Typical bills braindead decision. They would have beaten the titans with flutie at QB and probably would have been in the super bowl and at least given the rams a good game.

I remember it in the car on news radio and I was ecstatic! I was a Johnson fan and I wasn’t alone. If I was a fan in ‘65 I would of pulled for Daryl over Jack Kemp.

He got screwed over so bad by the owners. It was their decision to start BLOWJOB JOHNSON in January of 2000. Flutie was and always will be 10 times the QB Johnson ever was. If it was up to Wade Phillips, Flutie would've started against the Titans and we would've had a different outcome.
