I used to live in Laredo, visit randomly. I do not remember Laredo being that clean and green. Even though I did not like living in Laredo, I had some really good memories from Laredo and the food in Laredo is absolutely amazing, still cannot find some Laredo style dishes anywhere I have traveled in the US, and I do believe them to be authentic Laredo style dishes. I do not know how else to explain it.
Hello all. There is so many places that popping up - that I guess you need to find out about places and find out about getting yourself. The good thing is we do have a public bus transit, taxi service and with now rideshare services like Lyft and uber - you can always find how to get to places in a cost effective ways. Lyft provides the most in coupons, discounts and when find a driver- ask to be sent some coupons even though Lyft does a great job also providing coupons and discounts. The heat in summer months are a killer - but fortunately cars do have air conditioning and so do most businesses nowadays. Laredo, Texas does have an indoor Mall Del Norte - with popular stores like Macy's, Sears, JcPenney, Dillards and more. Yes, they also have a large Movies theater - with majestic sitting. Mall Del Norte was said to be the Largest Mall in south Texas and in Laredo, Texas. We now have an OUTLET mall - outdoors type setup - very Spanish motif - but nice shops to really find good discount name brand stores. Laredo, Texas has a Laredo College that has a premier in 2 year programs - along with Nationally Ranked Tennis and Baseball teams. Tamiu or Texas A&M International University is part of the Texas A&M Board of Regents and ranked the Top 5 four year University in the Nation. TAMIIU has a TOP ranked Soccer Men's Team and Basketball team almost always ranked Basketball team. Laredo, Texas is considered one of the fast growing cities in the nation next to Las Vegas - but with a very affordable living and great place to raise children in Top ranked Public schools and 2 large Independent School Districts. Almost all areas of the City has nice places to live and very affordable - but most people like living in the North Part of the City - but we do have nice area like in the Heights, Retama I and II , Hillside, Vista Hermosa, Alta Vista, and many other subdivision in and around Plantation, Alexander Estates, and so many more. WE have many parks, the popular Lake Casa Blanca lake State Park, and three Large Golf courses - Lake Casa Blanca Golf Course, The Country Club in Plantation - and the Max Golf - ranked 1 in survey polls. There are many trails for walkers and bikers in the Wetland area and park trails. However, there are many special events, activities, parades year round - that you must keep informed on those events or they can pass you by. George Washington Birthday Celebration parade also involve a carnival, pageants , Noche Mexican night, and so many other events throughout several weeks. I hope you like this short answer about Laredo, Texas - but there is always something happening in our town of almost 300,000 plus - and you will never find the most warm and nicest people anywhere else. Just make conversation to someone and they will always converse with you - if you want to let them become a neighboring friend. Most people in Laredo, Texas speak two languages and as long you do not mind that - then you will like Laredo, Texas. Even the people that don't speak English - try to make you feel important enough to know what you are needing to know or find a way to help. By the way, the most authentic Mexican food will be at the Taco Palenque Restaurant, and Taco Palenque Grille - which both establishment are from the same owners and the food is second to none. Other places have Mexican food but they each have their own favorite dishes. Laredo, Texas also have buffet style places like Luby's and others along highway 35 - even like Asia food like Lin's Restaurants. I am from Laredo, Texas and also lived in many cities like Houston, San Antonio, El Paso and others - but known are as unique as Laredo, Texas. Maybe the people are the most unique and heartwarming - if you allow them to be nice to you. I have always said - wherever you live - you make it as nice as you want it to be. Laredo, Texas compared to Large Cities around Texas - well - you can't compete with the traffic and long drives in those cities. You can get in about 15 minutes in parts of town and the traffic is there - but you can move through and away from traffic if you choose too. The crime rate is quite low considering the many transit people that move to our town - and also the many tourist we get traveling from Monterrey Mexico and the large city in the world - Mexico City, D.F. that come to Laredo for business and pleasure. Laredo, Texas is growing very fast and its a City that you can really beat the living expense be low and how affordable it is compared to most larger communities or even others our size. Welcome to Laredo, Texas - and enjoy your stay - maybe consider moving here because its very family driven and nice place to live.
