      If a node is for example run in Germany, swis, denmark. Whatever privately.
      Those Gov's can ask you for the data (they most likely won't to begin with), but the person who set up the node can just simply decline.

    I would like to address one mistake here @networkchuck made in this tutorial.
    This is for beginners who i am assuming, going to follow this tutorial step by step as it is.
    While mentioning the distro version or its codename, do it carefully.
    As per this video, he mistakenly used "bookworm" as codename here on ubuntu 23.04.
    "Bookworm" is codename of Debian 12 & and the correct codename for ubuntu 23.04 is "Lunar" (I don't know how he missed paying attention to this even after running apt update command couple of times, "lunar" flashed on screen multiple times. Still somewhere "bookworm" struck in his mind. Throughout the video).

    • @ThomasLobker
      @ThomasLobker Год назад +1

      Traffic is encrypted between the Tor client and the exit node. The Tor client adds three layers of encryption. The first layer is for the exit node, the second layer is for the middle node and the final layer is for the entry node. The Tor client is choosing the route of nodes for each packet. So if you run an entry node, you can only remove one layer of encryption for these packets. You could only decrypt all layers of encryption if you run the entry, middle and exit node for one session. With about 6500 total relays and about 1700 exit nodes, the chance would be (1/1700)*(1/2400)*(1/2400) for one person to provide all three layers in one session, assuming he has one of each.

    Chuck should be running the Cisco company. I cannot do this, I get this as I ran Tor before but I do NOT need a DMCA complaint I have too many haha. Good video.

    There is nothing safe and secure. It doesn't matter whether you use TOR or a VPN, someone, somewhere will have access to your data. Do not run a TOR relay under any circumstances. There are some very bad people who do very bad things online, and if that data passes through your connection then you are going to find yourself in a whole world of trouble. If you want to take that risk then fine, but internet laws in the west are getting more and more oppressive and draconian.

    This is not what the average user who enjoys tor and wants to give back to the community and searches which button to click to run a relay needs. It should be as simple as clicking a button within the browser near the navigation arrows to open the middle relay.I'm pretty sure more users would do it while surfing the Web using the Tor Browser. I was searching for the button and my jaw dropped when I saw a 24 minute video come up as the answer. The button I imagined should spell "RELAY" and/or have a suggestive icon and it should be green when on and red when off. Clicking the buton on or off should open no further windows or prompts to encourage users who are using the browser to keep the 'Relay Mode' engaged.
