Haven't been able to run properly for about 6 weeks now due to bad lungs post covid. I think it will be a good motivation when I'm healthy again to not waste the gift of a healthy body!
I know pedestrians have the legal right of way nowadays but us runners should take responsibility for our own safety when out on public roads. E.g. quick look over the shoulder before crossing the road.
Excatly what I needed today, trainng for my first marathon at 49 after quitting smoking (32 years of it), lost all motivation last couple days. Watchng this gave me the umpf I needed to go out and just run not taking any notice of pace etc.. Loved my time out and thankful I went, looked at my Strava when I got back and actually ran the fastest I ever had and was out for 2.5 hours. :D
Was struggling with feeling motivated to run, came to the channel to see if there was a relevant video. By the end of the video I was watching it whilst on my treadmill 😊 Great video as usual 👍
Yesterday was my long run day, currently in Australia it’s summer and very hot, but yesterday I awoke to a storm that lasted all day and caused minor flooding, my run was 2 hours easy trail, mind you there was 1000m of vertical gain in that first 2 hours so keeping the HR low was a concern and to finish the run off the plan was 30 minutes road at AT pace. I could have easily cancelled the run and no one would have questioned the decision but I got out there and absolutely crushed it, easy top 10 runs I’ve ever done, earlier in the week I was doubting my ability to crush my current Marathon PB, now I know I will 💪🏼
When my back hurts I sometimes dont dare to go out for a training session but now I have learnt myself that even if I have a pain in my back it in fact help me to remove my pain and thats a very important knowledge for me. So it also varries how hard a pain I have but in most cases it really dont gets worse running a training session. It mostly gets better and what to learn is take the bull at its horns and try go for a session even ef it hurts a bit. The day after my back is in much better state. Inga DK.
Your videos have become some of my favorite. A lot of these things you say apply to other areas of life philosophically or conceptually. I have started doing more steady runs thanks to your videos! Keep it up!
The way you answer that question gives as much of an insight as the content of the answer itself. Relax. Running can make you happy and 99% of the time when you're done, you're glad you did it. For the casual runner it's such a good way to help de-clutter your mind when you get to a certain level of fitness, and it is worth getting there!
Thanks Stephen, I‘ve started following along your journey a few weeks ago - I appreciate your professional advice but more than that I just love your attitude and dedication. It is apparent you‘re a good guy with your own goals, challenges and at times struggles in life, that makes your journey so relatable even though our paces differ wildly ;-) Having been slammed out of a 100% motivational training phase (for Berlin) by a ski accident with broken ribs, if I’ll not feel like running once I can start back into training, I‘ll tell myself to shut up and appreciate that I‘m able to train! In this way, my unnecessary injury might have something good to it…
Thanks for the effort with the language, my 7 year old son is a huge athletics fan and I enjoy watching your video and talking to him about the training 👍
Hahahahaha you make laugh. I am 8 years into recovery from addiction and my head plays tricks every day, telling me not to not go out and run. Tonight I circled my running shoes for about 2 hours before I finally got out to run. It may be 10.30pm but I got it done. I just love what you are doing in your videos and how you focus on the mental aspects of running and life. Thank you 😊
Loved this one (love all your vids but this one hit hard for me). Particularly appreciate the "change the record" analogy. Since I started rotating my shoes I was surprised to find my day-to-day excitement for my runs go up, funny creatures we humans are :P
When my motivation dips I focus on how I’ll feel after the run. I never regret a run, no matter how it went, but I do know I’ll regret not trying (of course unless it’s a circumstance when it’s a bad idea to run). I also give myself 15 mins. Get myself out the door & go-if I’m still in a bad place 15 mins later, I call it quits. It’s amazing how often that works-can’t remember the last time I quit 15 mins in…just kept going & got the run done!😂 Hope this helps someone!!
One thing about that park I’ve seen so many different influencers cause so many are from London at that park that I actually think I know a place even though I live in the south eastern United States it’s kind of funny like that. Blessings of RUclips.
Another fantastic video, new runner here so I’m still working on that discipline of getting it done even when I don’t feel like it, love the tips, thank you for the consistently great content ❤
My problem is my garmin watch says I'm over training. It will tell me to take so many hours off. After a hard workout. I would say sometimes it is correct. Have a tired feeling or low energy. I'm pretty sure it's based on heart rate. But I usually listen to it. Because may be something that I don't know. Anyway, I love the videos. Peace
When I have no motivation to run, I call my sister and ask her if I can walk with her dog. It is a very active breed that likes a faster pace a long walks. It also likes nature a lot, so sometimes I drive to the woods and we have the greatest walks. I'm considering buying the kit you need to run with a dog, so I can do runs with my sisters dog. Most bigger dogs have no problems with longer runs with paces up to 4 min/k. Maybe an idea for you too, if you know someone that has a dog you can take with you for a walk/run.
I run every day sometimes twice a day for over 4 years now (not a day off)....... and boy I get some serious .... I can't be arsed..... but even a short 2 miler and I get home elated!!! Every time!!!
@@stephenscullion262 😂yeh, I have to admit, my ‘no trainers’ excuse disappeared years ago for not getting out! It’s more a case of which ones do I pick and then it’s too late to get out, but then again I’m only a one home person nowadays. Great vid as always.

Love this video. I needed this today as the voices were in my head trying to tell me not to run later but I'm definitely going to go out now.
Stumbled upon this video when in middle of a bad running week and it was everything i needed!

another great video with so much good advice, I know I'm not the only one who appreciates your insight Scully, so thank you very much!
Stephen that was so so timely for me!! I’ve lost my running mojo after many years. That said your wisdom I’m sure will help me get back on track! TY

Well done, and I think we can all relate some people just tone it down and don’t let on to themselves or others.

Another great bit of content, plus I'm also a great fan of Bushy Park for a run.

You hold most of the Strava Segment records around where I live though!!! Great video as always!
Another great video. Thank you! Right! I’m off for a run now (even though I wasn’t feeling like it) 👍

Thanks, great video from a fellow local!
I'm definitely also planning a trip to Bushy Park now!

That’s very kind

Brilliant
great tips, though the first should be "dont run between two busses"
I really want to go running today, but I know I need to rest...left knee and right hip were out of it after my long run last weekend
Great
I run every day sometimes twice a day for over 4 years now (not a day off)....... and boy I get some serious .... I can't be arsed..... but even a short 2 miler and I get home elated!!! Every time!!!
How many miles will was this run
No, I'm not afraid of the deer!
Why?
Because I can run really really fast!
Lol
But the question is Scully, did you get your trainers?
Ha found two pair - I had about 3 pair of racing shoes but couldn’t find the everyday runners
@@stephenscullion262 😂yeh, I have to admit, my ‘no trainers’ excuse disappeared years ago for not getting out!
It’s more a case of which ones do I pick and then it’s too late to get out, but then again I’m only a one home person nowadays.
Great vid as always.
I would absolutely love a doggy running partner.
The Aussie representation on that segment 👀
I have endless motivation to run but a body that always lets me down with niggles...
Oh dear, hope the healthy body comes back. Keep working on the rehab
try slowing down
Whats that you have in your ears Stephen.....?
It's funny I didn't feel like running today but I ran for miles
