This is a wonderful presentation thank you for sharing! I just have a quick question: Is there a risk of the glass bottles "exploding" after a while? Thank you.
Everyone online moans about using glass jars, but in this they use brewing buckets, I'm going to do the same, very good video. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
Thanks for the video and I sell Scoby and kefir cultures so have to use food grade plastics when sending in the post and I hope that this isn’t a health risk to my customers.....I’ve never brewed or fermented anything in plastic though and so it is an interesting topic worth asking a chemist or plastic manufacturer their views.
Asterisk San Francisco I gave You a Thumbs up because the "Video" was good but Your Microphone placement or Mic Quality was so Poor I heard less than 20% of the Videos Audio! Please work on Your Microphone Technique! Thank You!
Just wanted to compliment you on your vid; nicely done. I do have a suggestion for you though. I've been making Kombucha for over thirteen years now. I learned that you should only use stainless steel, or glass; nothing else. No wood, plastic, tin ... Also, when you add the cold water to the hot you didn't mention so, I'm assuming that the cold water has been sterilized; is that right? Otherwise, it will contaminate the sterilized hot water. Blessings 2 U.
Wine is fermented in the wood or plastic(food grade). When created first kombucha? Do you thing this time used stainless steel or glass? I believe the wooden barrels works great this time.
There are are opinions on the matter, but that's all they are, opinions. Food grade plastic isn't going to leach crude oil into your batch, good quality stainless steel isn't going to leach toxic metals into your kombucha. Be reasonable, you don't want to brew in home depot buckets or aluminum stock pots of course. Glass carboys and wooden spoons are fine if you go that route, but if you have a good quality stainless steel stock pot or a food grade plastic container, try it.
Yeah, I thought we were not supposed to use plastic containers and plastic spigots as the Kombucha can eat and leach out chemicals from it. In fact I thought you can only use glass and stainless steel 304 food grade metal as the Kombucha can eat through stainless steel as well if it is not of the correct type. Better safe than sorry.
Good vid you obviously love Kombucha, the plactic buckets scare me tho. I have myself suffered illness and learned how to heal, ppl that drink Kombucha are most times conscious of their health. That plastic is a huge health issue and ppl deserve to know that what they are lovenly consuming could potentially be harmful!! DO NO HARM.... peace & blessings ppl healing mankind is gift take it as serious as Cancer!
Have you ever drank or used Vinegar in cooking? Vinegar is sold in plastic bottles all of the time, Kombucha fermented in plastic would not harm you as long as the plastic was food grade. Wine and Beer are also fermented in plastic without issue, this is a myth.
I’m impressed by her initiative and turn this into a business. However I’d never buy her products because of all the plastic usage with an acidic product. Plus I brew my own
The plastic vs glass debate, I love it ..... if Kombucha ins't meant to be fermented or bottled in "Food Grade" plastic because it's too acidic then why is it quite common to purchase vinegar in plastic bottles?
I admire your concept & passion, but the fact that you present a serIous health risk to your loyal customers by fermenting your Kambucha in plastic casts a shadow on your efforts. Why not switch to glass, if you are conscious of health & the environment?
Darren Jones , YOU ARE WRONG. Plastic is a byproduct of PETROLEUM. I am in the oil industry and I know how plastic are made. The acid produced during FERMENTATION of the SCOBY to produce kombucha will cause plastic to leech harmful chemical. THIS IS POISON!!!
Based on the tea blends it could be a fantastic flavor and brand if it wasn't for all the plastic and stainless steel...plus CO2 so it doesn't get infected??? bullshit, the only reason CO2 is added to anything is forced carbonation, cheating to get the extra bubbles without putting in the work when Kombucha carbonates plenty on it's own if bottled properly and filled to the top, which I see is not happening.... I think I may use some of those tea blends in the future but the base of all my kombucha is organic Yerba Mate.
Aiden Shadows I’m new to this kombucha brewing but it got my attention that you brew from Yerba mate instead of black tea? How does this work ? Do add flavors or anything g else in the second fermentation? Thanks!
SO many racists comments here. There are different kinds of plastics. Some are manufactured to withstand low pH. You guys don't even know the material composition of their plastic fermenters. Close-minded, judgmental, racists!
Joseph Libunao i actually thought it was a health risk as well. Did some searching and you're right, there are proper plastic fermenting jugs out there. i don't see how pointing out plastic can be dangerous is racist though haha opinionated, yes. not racist though

I like the video lots of info, the audio is kinda low and distorted sometimes but if I put my ear up to the speaker I could hear you.
So exciting! I wish you were in Atlanta!!! Let me know when you start distributing nationally!

I’d like a Scoby please
Hello, how is it called the machine that you use to take out the hot water un the minute 2.15, it would be really helpfull, thank you!!!
Greetings.
Boiler?
Invest in a microphone so we can hear the video.
I wish your audio was a bit better so we could hear you better. I love Kombucha!

Do you have to refrigerate your kombucha all the time?
Martin Pernstich hi, its refrigerated to stop the fermentation process, otherwise you’ll end up with vinegar
theprima01 that’s why my kombucha left in the car tasted like vinegar. Yummy
Awesome video. Informative and its nice to see how others make their Kombucha. Thanks Rana.
She was ahead of her time (after GT)
Cool! Go house! Go Rana!
I thought you could not make kombucha in plastic. I see her bins on shelves are all plastic. Please give me your thoughts on this!

The only way to really know is to grow it or make it yourself.
Bonjour vous pensez que les femmes enceintes peuvent boire du kambucha?
Awesome!
wow that was AWESOME
They brew beer in food grade plastic and make saurkraut. Should be alright.
Thanks for the video, pity about the ignorant racists be-low...
Are those plastic buckets you are using?

Plastic and fermentation... Yeah...
I thought that kombucha can only be fermented in glass or ceramic jar
Sensacional
I’m impressed by her initiative and turn this into a business. However I’d never buy her products because of all the plastic usage with an acidic product.
Plus I brew my own
She's probably doing plastic for a few months till she can get glass....not that it matters

Darren Jones
glass is superior. enough said.

*You’re plain ignorant, and are trying to show it off! There is expensive food-grade plastic .... look it up!*
you're beautiful Rana :)

Nathan Dutoit I think he's talking about the people saying "typical Chinese poison" and crap like that.
Can u put this in leymans terms
disturbing.
plastic vessels...not good
Kirkor Papasian Why would Pale Ale Plastic Wine Fermentation not be ok to use with Kombucha? If it's safe for fermenting wine, why not Kombucha?
*You’re plain ignorant, and are trying to show it off! There is expensive food-grade plastic .... look it up!*
Tell me where u sell this crap so I don’t buy any using plastic shit
Wtf plastic fermenting. lost all credibility
Plastic??? Will never buy this brand… please don't sell it
adohra *You’re plain ignorant, and are trying to show it off! There is expensive food-grade plastic .... look it up!*
