How to Install a Quartz Countertop
Kevin toured the manufacturing facility for Cambria Stone [www.cambriausa.com/#!/]. The slab that was installed at Jenny’s house was also Cambria quartz in the color “Windermere [bit.ly/2LMfgid].”
The tools required for installing the quartz, including the hammers and pry bars for removing the old counter, and the silicone to secure the new countertop, can all be found at home centers.

How to Replace a Kitchen Faucet
Richard installed the Fairbury Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet in stainless steel, manufactured by American Standard [www.americanstandard-us.com/]. It comes with washers and gaskets and most of the materials required to install it.
Everything else he used to replace the kitchen faucet, including the putty, soap dispenser, wrench and screwdriver, can be purchased at home centers and plumbing supply stores.
How to Upgrade to Soft-Close Cabinets
While there are a few low-cost options to upgrade to soft-close kitchen cabinets, Nathan suggests changing out all hardware to soft close.
Nathan installed TEC Soft-Close cabinet hinges, which are manufactured by Grass USA [www.grassusa.com/]. He recommends identifying the brand currently installed in the cabinets and replacing the hardware with that same brand, which is what he did in this case. Usually, that will require less work on the cabinet doors to get the new hardware to fit.
For the drawer slides, Nathan installed 22” soft-close, full-extension, ball bearing, side-mount drawer slides, which are manufactured by Everbilt [thd.co/3CE5W8N] and sold at home centers. The plastic cup Nathan mounted to the back of the cabinet was manufactured by Everbilt as well. To determine which type of slides to get, measure the cabinet front to back for the length, and get the same mounting type as the original slides, since they will be easier to install. Opt for full extension over 3/4 extension to gain full access of the drawer.
The drawer slides jig Nathan used is manufactured by Kreg Tools [bit.ly/3hWTEQL]. The jig makes the drawer slides installation significantly easier because it can hold everything in place.
The rest of the tools Nathan used to install the soft-close hinges and slides, including the drill driver, screwdriver, and self-centering drill bit, can all be found at home centers.

As somebody that has replaced a few cabinet hinges and slides, I can tell you that doing the entire kitchen took a longggggg time!
Kevin just Scratched the Hell out of her Floor when he Slid The Counter Top on the Floor U 🤡😂😆😅🤣🤔
Being as the Counter Top came out in once piece and the sink as well. Just clean them up and bring them to a Habitat Store that way, someone else might be able to come in and buy it at a very cheap price and use it their home. Instead of sending it to the landfill.
That made me smile at the end of first segment ... Hire a plumber and an electrician and your all set. 😀

One thing I learned the hard way. Stone counter tops and crockery don't mix. I lost my favorite mug given from my children.
Laminate is cheaper to replace and more forgiving if you drop a dish. IME, that is.

What do I use to place glass subway tile onto a (side) backsplash made of 60s wood? It's about a 2'x2' area; the rest is normal wall.
I would of changed those shut off valves with 1/4 turn.

Yeah, and this *not* the broadcast only TV show, it’s a youtube channel. When you get to be the boss of a *public comments forum* somewhere, you can tell people what matters. I want to hear informed opinion, and a 1/4 turn upgrade here is a good idea that might save a lot of water in the kitchen sone time.

What quartz does do? Chip. I don't know anyone without chips around the sink in particular.
Biggest risk in this job is removal of the old countertop is the local cut off valves. In an old home, they are often corroded or frozen or start leaking when closed. A little too much, poorly applied pressure might even crack the upstream pipe. That forces main water cutoff until a plumber arrives, maybe an expensive emergency call. Showing the homeowner doing the quick cutoff suggests none of this can happen.
For this project, best to show how to replace a compression fitting cutoff, first, just in case.

I always put a wrench on the copper side opposite the shut off, just in case...

Everything under the sink is so awkward and hard to reach. Why do they make them that way? The putty thing is new to me. I just had my faucet replaced...gonna check.
Electrician: Hey thanks for covering that bottom screw on the receptacle. What would have taken anyone 45 seconds to do is now gonna take a pro earning pro wages to do some fancy magic. Surprised Richard went with a nylon stem repair on those shutoffs.
Nylon holds up surprisingly well. It also has the advantage of not reacting with hard water. So in those conditions is can be a superior solution than a metal fixture. Having said that, it would have been nice to show how you can replace a multi-turn valve with a quarter-turn version without the need for any soldering by using a compression style quarter-turn valve or a snap-fit model.
@@Kevin-mp5of He didn't - he showed how to fix the valve she had which I think is easier and more useful than cutting out the old one and soldering in a new one.

Probably could but it would look like a dogs breakfast. It will look nicer with the outlet moved up a bit. Well, in my opinion anyhow.
Quartz counter top installers are dying from silicosis due to the dust damaging their lungs.
Its their own fault for not wearing ppe.
Quartz is not the first cut stone by a mile. Dust protection then, dust protection now.
At some point in time, I sure hope we'll move away from Phillips head screws. I thought I'd see better than that on Ask TOH in 2023? "See ma'am, your stock kit included inferior Phillips heads screws... here's the greatest and latest Torx Head, invented in 1967..."
Sometimes Phillips are actually helpful since they make it difficult to over tighten without camming out.

I hope they donated the old drawer slides to a charity like Habitat for Humanity. They work well in garage or shop cabinets.
As someone who has sold and installed shut off valves ,just put new quarter turn compression valves with double shutoff or single shut off with double outlet.Also never put a huge faucet on a stainless sink less than 16 gauge it will bend ,thankfully she choose a cheap lightweight crap faucet ,and plumbers putty you don't need with the plate it has a washer for a reason.Love this show but some of this advice is bad .

You live in an area full of "professionals" too, huh? That's why I started watching this; so I can just do it myself. Hahaa
They are out there. Generally speaking ----- No one is naturally great ----- It is gained through experience and some learn quicker then others. If you are a true professional trade you typically get snatched up by high end clients and you have no reason to look for additional work. You never see really skilled doctors or mechanics or chefs looking for work, right?
