- It was more than four, likely greater than five inches. Enjoy some spectacular exploration captures of an phenomenally rare event that will only last for a short moment in time without getting into too much detail.
I hope you enjoy the quality and speed at which I'm getting my videos out recently. I don't know how long this will last, but I hope it never ends.
A few hours after recording this video I got out my extension ladder and climbed many roofs, shoveling snow off of all four sets of photovoltaic (solar) panels while it's a couple of degrees above freezing and then everything melted will turn to "black" ice. I shouldn't have to worry about then for the rest of this cold spell.
While I was up on my roof cleaning the panel of snow, I decided to clear my entire roof and overhangs of any snow and ice. It was over five inches thick on average and it wasn't melting much today. I figured that all that snow was not going to melt off for days, maybe weeks. I don't know if melting and freezing with the water sitting on the roof could seep in through joints in the roofing, but I worry a little about it. So, I took the opportunity and put in the extra hard work to get it out of the way, right away.
Finally, I came up with a theory that all those inches of frozen water right up against my roof was probably absorbing heat much faster than if the roof was bare to the outdoor temperature. Or, does it provide extra insulation like an igloo or something, and I'd have been better off leaving it alone? I think the former and not the latter. What do you think?
