I love the writing and acting but the way this CRITICAL context isn't provided until jumping through so many protracted is REALLY clumsy storytelling on Kojima's part. I didn't hate the fact the truth tapes have an hours worth of content but it shoudln't have been gatekept the way it was.
But Zero didn't beg for mercy or anything. He was old and got infected by a parasite that could kill him. Despite the massive technology he had, he went on a comatose state for the rest of his life, BUT the patriots A.I acted as his will up to a certain point. In that case he still got away with everything he did and his death was not even painful. Meanwhile everyone including Miller were dead for a long time before he died. Remember the paralelism at the end of the credits, the very last events narrated are "Zero dies...Big Boss dies"

Zero most likely considered that if Miller knew that early that it was skull face that led the attack on mother base, then he would’ve wasted no time hastily tracking him down in an uncoordinated fashion without the Big Boss and ended up meeting an early death because XOF is just too strong.

its clear miller wasn't loyal to the boss but to growing the war economy, he says as much at the end of peacewalker, in ground zeros (which is a fabrication of venoms mind) he acts like he had once believed Paz's cover story, which he knew for a fact was a fake story. Miller was loyal to his own ideals, and it's clear he worked behind the bosses back to achieve them. If ocelot wasn't so jarringly fake and off in the game, people would probably focus on how miller doesnt make sense more.

Kaz in mgsv was the TRUE descent into becoming the villain, not Big Boss/Venom Snake. Kojima is such a crafty storyteller when he wants to be, complete misdirection until the last minute.

The basic workflow is: -put all intel people into another group, eg medical bay, since they get released automatically later. this prevents lots of onscreen notices and sounds - go to a place thats dark and quiet to play the tape, I chose some caves - make sure all soldiers in the areas are absolutely cleaned out - now basically play the tape and record. because something always goes wrong, and weather warnings cannot be stopped, you usually have to do 2 or 3 recordings and cut it together. you may wanna position the camera so that snake disappears. rest is video effects to adjust the levels and make only white show up, which are the subtitles
