    Excellent video! I participated in an expert carving training camp on two occasions and these exercises were part of the program. Some of the exercises are exaggerated for a very good reason, to promote proper angulation, hip rotation, shoulder and hand placement. Many skiers do not realize that to reach superior carving skills angulation comes from the hip rotating, which also provides maximum strength (as well as resistance) through the turn. For those doubters, try getting angulation by turning your hips slightly towards the outside of the turn (3:00) as well as trying to keep your chest angle and hands at the same angle as an imaginary line from one of your ski tips to the other, do this through several consecutive fast carving turns. Lowering the hip to the snow also lowers your center of gravity allowing for faster turns and takes your carving to the next level.
    For those that are not at this ski level yet and do not understand these exercises or techniques, keep and open mind one day you will understand, but for now be kind with your posts, this poster is a professional coach and knows what he is teaching (and does it very well).

    Excessive hip counter will make the tibia of outside leg rotate outward, which results in supination of foot and "de-edges" the ski. 1:19 is an evidence that he does not (and could not as a result) use his ankle and knee to establish early edging and subsequently balance at the Subtalar level (1:49 knee shaking). People should be cautious doing what he shows in the video (EXCESSIVE hip counter). As a comparison 2:54 is more natural, where he does not use that much hip counter.

      His entire demonstration and exercises was ridiculous and won't teach anyone anything! 1:54 Want top destroy your knees? Do this. Plus, if you want to teach someone, you shouldn't communicate like this, "which results in supination of foot " or "use his ankle and knee to establish early edging and subsequently balance at the Subtalar level." You do Not use your ankle and knees to set the edge to allow the ski to turn. You relocate your hip and upper body back into the fall line and get off your downhill foot as the skis pass under you which lays your legs over which puts the new turning ski/uphill ski on edge. 0:16 0:30

    WIth that hip drop he ends up with some weight over his uphill ski,which is ok if you know how to manage that weight transfer off the downhill ski. If you don not manage that weight transfer correctly, you will lose control of your turn.

    Excellent video about the Schlopy Drill. With this method I have already taught many people how to carve within half a day. I don't know any other technique that allows a more stable stance and a faster turn change than this one. In addition, this technique can be extended to weave by fast curve changes. If you look at the videos of the giant slalom riders, you can see very clearly in slow motion that they use exactly this technique.

      Your understanding of skiing is sloppy. Most people can’t even do rounded turns properly never mind carving. In fact most people think carving is simply having their skis on edge. As a rule, if a movement isn’t needed then don’t do it.

      I think you don't know what you wish for. His posture is blocked, hip dump, rotation, knee lower than hip, weight on the inside ski etc. Easiest way to smash your ACL. Don't follow this way of skiing.
      While carving you shouldn't be rotated, upper and lower body separation is a must. Of course during tough courses (World cup) slight rotation is present but performed from shoulders not from pelvis!!

      Według mojej opinii - godzę się z Krzysztofem. Tutaj na filmie pokazany jest "przeciwskręt". Postawa bardzo pomocna w nauczaniu początkowym carvingu (dla tych mocno opornych z wejściem na krawędzie). Wraz z nabywaniem umiejętności powinno się ją poprawiać i eliminować. Kierunek tułowia powinien być taki sam jak nart. Pokazana sylwetka pomaga zejść nisko i wypiąć biodro co powoduje mocne zakrawędziowanie - stosuje się ja do jazdy tzw. dużego C. Pan Wojtek w sumie też ma racie bo sylwetka przodem do stoku jest poprawna ale tylko przy jeździe skrętów krótkich ciętych (niektórzy mówią na to śmig carvingowy. O demonstrację poprosimy Pana Reilli'ego.

    The magic to this is flexing both legs as you exit the last turn and keep the new inside leg tipped and flexed, pulling the new inside foot back.

    This is Much easier. You are standing between two barstools. You want to rest a cheek on the edge of a barstool. You take your weight off your Right foot, lift your Right cheek and set it on the edge of the Right barstool. The farther over you slide it, the steeper your leg angle. By lifting your cheek you are forcing your upper body to stay vertical. All that hand movement they are talking about is to complicated and counter productive to keeping a quite and stable upper body. You don't teach what you won't use in the future.

    • @helenek5678
      @helenek5678 4 года назад +1

      the barstool thing way too complicated and unrealistic for demo purposes. the hand thing is one of the simplest and best ways to enable a student to feeeeeel whats going on!!! furthermore much of the hand thing IS used in skiing only most fail to utilize it.

      @@helenek5678 This is what NOBODY wants to understand. Skis turn when you put your body in a certain position and change your weigh from one foot to the other at a specific time. You Do NOT ski with your HANDS! When you are thinking about your hands, what are you doing with your body? How and when are you changing your weight? Do you really think your skis will miraculously turn when you do that with your HANDS?
      Watch him ski for himself. No demonstrations. 0:20 Do you see him doing the Hand Thing or do you see him sitting on the edge of a Barstool? He is always keeping his hands on the handlebars of a bicycle and pointing the front tire down the hill and getting off his downhill foot to start the new turn. You THINK about what your skis need from you, you don't do the Hand Thing! You have no idea how easy it is to lift your cheek and set in on the edge of the Barstool. It keeps your upper body vertical and creates a steep leg angle so your skis can carve. Stop defending your heroes and THINK! I forgot the Thigh Thing. That is just as stupid as the Hand Thing. How can you teach carving in such a wrong way? Feet, hips and shoulders have to rotate in the same direction in order to be strong on the outside ski, you pretend to use carving skies with the technique from the 70s

    That's not How to carve turns, that's just a Very Uncomfortable variation of how to carve turns. Overall, this really stinks. They are just making skiing as complicated as possible. That BS about bending your knees sideways? Do NOT do that! When you step up onto your uphill foot to start the next turn, just think about resting on the edge of a Barstool.
    "Keep your hands on the handlebars of a bicycle with the front tire pointed down the hill. Plant you Right pole Down the hill, take your weight off your Right foot, lift your Right cheek and set it on the edge of the Right Barstool. Balance on the arch of your Left foot. Plant your Left pole down the hill, take your weight off the Left foot, lift your Left cheek and set it on the edge of the Left Barstool" It is as easy as that. Balancing is the hard part so practice that in traverses until you are stable and comfortable.
