The last time China went to war was with Vietnam in 1979, and it was short-lived (1 week) with no victory. An amphibious war across 160 kilometers Taiwan Strait will be an unimaginable challenge for PLA to take. Taiwan is one of the most missile intensive countries in the world, only second to Israel. China would better keep its fingers crossed if it dares to invade Taiwan. There will be serious consequences for China and repercussions throughout the world.
There are opinion polls in Taiwan. Sixty-five percent of young people in Taiwan believe that the United States will engage the CCP in a bloody battle to defend Taiwan; but 70% of young people immediately surrendered when they were at war with the CCP. As for young people who believe that their president is ready for national defense and military power, only 0%. Interestingly, young people in Taiwan want Americans to help them win a battle on the battlefield, but they don’t want to work hard.🤣

Thank you for sharing this article. Just a little information for those not familiar with Taiwan history as I think this article misrepresented it's history a bit. I think saying that Taiwan separated from the motherland in 1949 is not an accurate picture. Taiwan was separated from the Chinese Qing dynasty back when it ceded it to Japan in April 1895. After WW2, Taiwan was placed under the Kuo min tang in 1945. They then retreated there at the end of 1949 after being defeated by the Communist party of Mao Ze Dong. So, to say that Taiwan separated from the mainland in 1949 is not really accurate. It was placed under Kuo min tang rule in the midst of the civil war. Thus, it had never been part of the Chinese "motherland" since 1895. Unfortunately, I wanted to share an article that had a very detailed assessment of an actual Chinese invasion of Taiwan. However, there are so many articles on China and Taiwan now that I can't find it now... Anyways, the gist of the article was that Taiwan is much better prepared to defend itself than people believe. It has an advanced military (thanks to sales from the US) and has been prepared for an invasion for quite some time. Basically, the Taiwanese could hold off for much longer (I believe it stated months) than people think. The article did not take into account cyber warfare though. The Chinese cyber warfare unit is extremely advanced. That being said, I believe the Taiwanese are not so weak in this area either... If China were to invade, the only way I see it actually working is, as another commenter mentioned, they were to shut down the island and it's defenses first through cyberwarfare. If this didn't happen, they would suffer greatly, despite how advanced their military is now. Taiwan's military is no slouch and they would defending their homeland. They wouldn't go down without a fight.

It means changing Taiwan's official title from the Republic of China to the Republic of Taiwan. China has sternly warned Taiwan that if the ROT title is ever adopted, it means war. Taiwan in recent decades has PLAYED THE GAME BACK! The official policy now is Taiwan would continue to park its title as the ROC (a necessary lie to maintain peace) but the day China invades, Taiwan would immediately change its title to the ROT! This means unless Xi has 100% confidence that he would win, he simply cannot risk a war. Even 99% is too risky because Xi's own head is at stake. If he invades and fails, he will have to face the ROT and his government would be overthrown GUARANTEED! The Chinese populace simply cannot accept the ROT. Third, the U.S. is not risking American blood to defend Taiwan but to defend its own hegemony! Taiwan sits on the First Island Chain (Japan, S. Korea, Taiwan, and the Philippines) to contain China. If Taiwan falls, the 1st Island Chain is broken, and the American empire ends, at least in the western Pacific. Some fools would argue losing S. Vietnam didn't result in the demise of the American global influence. The Taiwanese compulsory military was not abolished as per the article. However, it was shortened from 12 months to 4 months, during the pro-China KMT president Ma's 2 terms.

There are too many speculations in the Chinese military capabilities which are shrouded in secrecy so I doubt that the author has any basis to conclude in such a dooms day outcome for Taiwan. The only facts we know so far are that Chinese military has never won a foreign war. The military equipment that China sold to groups such as the Assad Regime, Hamas, Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Azerbaijan, and Taliban have all turned out to be below grade. Lastly, China's foreign reserves are not sufficient to finance such an annexation adventure. One thing I would like to point out is that people who quote the word "reunification" from Chinese media are typically left leaning globalists who use the media to spread ideology.
I guess Europe counts on the US too much when it comes to taking any action 😒 They only "dissaprove" indeed. But in case the US intervenes, they will definitely have to help them as their ally I suppose

When civil war broke out in Bosnia in 1990s, EU did nothing about the genocide and ethnic cleansing happening there. When Serbia did the same thing to the Albanian in Kosovo, EU did not respond or intervene, either. It was US bombing Serbia to stop this tragedy. EU can not even take care of its own backyard, let alone a far away Taiwan. The most recent example of EU impotence is Russia annexing Crimea.

China is becoming a threat not just for Taiwan but for ALL OF ITS NEIGHBORS! China is likely to spend itself into bankruptcy before it becomes capable of an invasion. It would be analogous to the USSR spending itself into oblivion. Even if these U.S. allies were not chipping in, the U.S., with the US dollars being a world currency, can print as much money as it wants! The whole world would be paying for it, and Washington does NOT need to get permission from any other government to print the USD! Lastly, the U.S. doesn't conduct war simulations to impress itself. Rather, it assumes HYPOTHETICAL scenarios to exam if the U.S. can still win. If not, what to do about it, eg. invest in new weapon systems or modify the existing war strategies, etc. Since these hypothetical scenarios are assuming BEST case for China and WORST case for the U.S., it is unlikely they would ever happen in real life.

It's really impressive that an European media did make a feature about the relationship btwn China and Taiwan...from historical causes all the way down to the present. Many of my friends in EU do not have any idea about things in 'far east'. Even it did provide a pessimistic view of potential conflicts btwn Taiwan & China; still, it will arising some international attention in western world - or so-called democracy allies, and I believe that is a good thing. Oh, btw, I'm a Taiwanese.
To be honest, I don't really worried about a military conflict, it is very unlikely to happen. The true threat is a culture invasion - as I see it. China will and is infiltrating via non-military ways. Keeping Taiwan as her current state is way better than owning her - even toward China. We were, are, and will be in a foreseeable future - a very good topic for communist party to blame on. We are, a perfect excuse and distraction for them to release the heat of their people. Poorness? It's Taiwanese's fault! Lack of power? Taiwanese's fault! Flood? Taiwanese's fault! Can't find remote controller? Taiwanese's fault! The list can go on and on..

Green Tea, This article mixed in facts with opinions and sold the whole mixture as a new report. There are too many speculations in the Chinese military capabilities which are shrouded in secrecy so I doubt that the author has any basis to conclude in such a dooms day outcome for Taiwan. The only facts we know so far are that Chinese military has never won a foreign war. The military equipment that China sold to groups such as the Assad Regime, Hamas, Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Azerbaijan, and Taliban have all turned out to be below grade. Lastly, China's foreign reserves are not sufficient to finance such an annexation adventure. One thing I would like to point out is that people who quote the word "reunification" from Chinese media are typically left leaning globalists who use the media to spread ideology.

When civil war broke out in Bosnia in 1990s, EU did nothing about the genocide and ethnic cleansing happening there. When Serbia did the same thing to the Albanian in Kosovo, EU did not respond or intervene, either. It was US bombing Serbia to stop this tragedy.
EU can not even take care of its own backyard, let alone a far away Taiwan. The most recent example of EU impotence is Russia annexing Crimea.
