She had said it was about her sleep paralysis and what she sees. About accepting it as a part of her but also wanting it to end.(As someone who suffers, I can actually relate to a lot of the imagery, lyrics). There are some pretty common hallucinations you get, while others would be more specific to your subconscious. The 'I want to end me',means the nightmare/monster/paralysis and not a literal statement. Billie works in metaphor. In the video most the time she has demon eyes when she's singing that part, not the regular Billie. When she says it with the normal eyes the first time it's included with a list of her nightmares and hallucinations, then her eyes change and the monster says it the rest. My take is If you pay attention to the eyes it seems like a conversation between herself and the nightmare. Or I could be totally wrong and the eyes are a coincidence. Lol
I am just learning about sleep issues, like being awake but cannot move or speak and just waiting for it to be over. I have Epilepsy but going to a sleep specialist to figure it all out. Like the lyrics, "I just want it to end".
A trick is to focus on wiggling your toes or clenching your fist. Everyone has something different that works for them. For me I focus on moving my legs. Either way, hope you find some relief.
She and her brother both have synesthesia (crossing of the senses) so they can really create songs that are associated with certain feelings, sensations, or experiences that most people can’t even comprehend! It’s such a cool phenomenon and I feel blessed to be able to listen to their creations.
I have synesthesia, it can be overwhelming a lot of the time, but I for certain do think it really influences my ability to connect with music, art, words, everything really, on a completely different level. Honestly, it's probably why I enjoy her music so much.
Creative, disturbing and poetic. It's like a nightmare you can't wake up from or someone who can't escape depression or something horrible that happened to her. She's so awesome
I’ve had nightmares kinda like that The feeling of being trapped The feeling of not being able to escape The feeling of fear The feeling of wanting to be let free

the song in my head is a representation of sleep paralysis, she gets dragged into her head and can’t escape, hence the lines ‘then my limbs are froze and my eyes won’t close’, a common symptom of sleep paralysis. In other words, she’s trying to ‘bury a friend’, which is that image of herself that appears when she sleeps. It’s creepy as, but a great song in general! Finneas never lets us down when it comes to production!! 👍🏻💙
This is what it's about: ''bury a friend” is written from the perspective of Billie Eilish’s monster under her bed. The track details a confusing relationship with this ‘entity’ and ambiguously sets her up to be the monster itself. A snippet of “bury a friend” was teased by Eilish on her Instagram page (as well as on Twitter and RUclips) on January 28th, 2019. The visual shows Billie’s face being roughly grabbed by several gloved hands that reach in from off the screen while she lip-syncs until the very last line where the lyrics ‘when we all fall asleep, where do we go?’ are displayed. The song itself features a Prismizer effect, which manipulates pitch and frequency characteristics to achieve a different, choral effect, much like Eilish’s recent track “WHEN I WAS OLDER.” Her friend Crooks makes a few short appearances on the song and seems to be talking directly to Eilish. Many fans believe an episode of sleep paralysis, which Billie shared on her Instagram story, was one of the inspirations for the song. In a reply to an Instagram comment, Eilish alluded to the validity of this theory.
Me too ! I'm not talented at all in music, i mean, i don't have memory of songs but curiously, i can follow almost immediately a song while it's playing, without knowing it and at the same time. But i can't repeat without the music. Strange, ahah
I do it too, even tho I don't do singing and I'm not really on pitch. I'm just lucky that when I pick up melodies somehow I'm on pitch but then if I concentrate and want to sing on pitch... well that doesn't work. Lol.
I think it's clear from Billie's music and her interviews that she has some personal stuff she works through with self-esteem and depression etc... in this song I see the "monster" as her view of herself and she's wondering why she is loved. :(
She’s so unafraid to be herself and jus express herself thru her music, her mvs are on a completely different level and I jus love her so being so genuine n being herself Edit: I love ur reactions haha, I love how u appreciate all types of art n music
Usually I'm not a big fan of this kind of music but that rhythm and melody is so haunting, it's crazy! I can't stop listening to it. I'm a sucker for a good beat. I don't mind the video and I don't find it that creepy. I think she's always very creative and I love it but there hasn't been a song from her yet that I really enjoyed. This is the first one. I really hope she'll keep creating this kind of music. Also really love the way that guy keeps starting every verse. This song is just hypnotic in so many ways and the video adds up to it.
I found out about Billie through my daughter. She’s a step away from being obsessed lol But Billie is quite the talented younger artist and touches well on deeper topics.
Personally I think the music video is about her sleep paralysis (she liked a comment that hinted that it was about that) and her friend (Xxxtentacion) is warning her for something in her sleep paralysis (he is dead) and the thing he is warning her about is probably the music industry and in the video the arms are like the industry trying to control her. Also the part where she sings *I cant say no* is also something about the industry

I adore this track. The 8D version is amazing. I too love big drama but this song has its own quiet drama. It’s insidious, anxiety ridden and plays in those liminal spaces. Billie Eilish is remarkable creative and I love her voice. Like honey and wine
I worry for Billie because in the year she’s been in the industry, she’s become quite disillusioned with it. It was especially clear in the Vogue(? I think it was Vogue) One Year Later interview she did that her whole mood and demeanor has taken a shift to the darker. It could be a publicity move, for the sake of a darker themed album release, but it feels like she’s definitely going through some things-even more so than her first album, which already dealt with some sensitive topics. I absolutely love this song, but I hope she’s taking care of herself as well because she’s a light I don’t want to see go out too soon.
Remember, she's just a teenager. It's very easy to confuse common side effects of adolescence with having real issues. Might be a warning sign, might be a phase, might just be who she is. I just need something more than moodiness and a dark aesthetic, from a teenaged girl, to think that there's something really wrong with her.
Everyone is spamming her what she feels. Leave her alone already, she has people she talks with, and does love her fans. I can't imagine anything worse when people constantly tell you that you seem "this" or "that". Let her do her art, light or dark.
Perluck Yeah. I think that if she REALLY was in a state of depression, she wouldn’t do the world tour. Her family is very supportive of her, her brother would notice. It’s disrespectful to assume people’s emotions. The imagery in the video is dark, yes, but some people long for that type of aesthetic. It’s all creativity.

It's interesting because her music videos for this album have all played with different phobias. I like that she isn't afraid to make art that may make you feel uncomfortable. Also that line of "bury a hatchet or bury a friend right now" is genius!

Cirque De Freak. Wonderfully creative. This is one of the most interesting videos I've seen in a long time. Reminds me of Marilyn Mason if he had used The Exorcist and The Shining in a video. To me it's like listening to the inner dialogue of serial killer. So imaginative. She's super talented.
do asmr!!
It's interesting because her music videos for this album have all played with different phobias. I like that she isn't afraid to make art that may make you feel uncomfortable. Also that line of "bury a hatchet or bury a friend right now" is genius!
