I'm a mechanic and the filter housing is backwards. The cone should be pointing the other way. The way it was installed would actually affect air flow and can probably gain just a hair more hp if installed in the correct direction
Cool idea. I’m not a mechanic But from what I know it usually takes a few days of driving Before the ECU learn the new mods and can most benefit from them.
I know this is an old video, but with a fuel injected car, you don't have to re-program the computer for this type of change. What you did was introduce an air intake restriction. That foam filter can only flow so much air per minute. When you go over that, it is the same as closing the throttle. If you hook up a computer to your car, and look at the throttle position sensor, and the fuel trims at full throttle, I would bet you will see it is trimming out fuel. The computer will compensate for the cool air, ram air, or hot air by adding or removing fuel to keep the mixture, as seen by the oxygen sensor, within a pre-set range. Put a better filter in line, determine how much air your car needs at full throttle, and be sure your filter can flow that much or more. Also, only so much air can move through a 3 inch pipe. I don't think that is your problem though. That E-bay filter is likely the cause. Pull the filter, take a test run with no filter and you will know for sure.
Nice wrongswagen bro :-) you should try to lead the inlet from bumper into stock airbox and preasurize it. That way you will rule out filter differences... then make another test and video of it :-)
Great vid. Planning to install a CAI as well, just wondering if it did affect the ECU programming? Did you have any check engine light after this mod? Sorry this is my first time to mod my Lancer, please excuse me for being a noob. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks.
I have been a Mechanic for 20 years I have seen everything in my career but this .lol
Means a lot ❤️
Here’s another example for you 😂

Tight 90's are very restrictive on air flow. The less bends you have the better. If you must use a 90, us ea street 90. They are not nearly as tight.
Bro cool attempt cool mod for cheap. Hats off.... cheers
I think I would have hooked up both intakes some how. Either a v coupler or directly to the bottom of the original filter housing.
is it just me or is the filter on backwards..
Davidjasso07 yeah it seems that way, but the filter inside wasn't lolol
@@Trexpass it actually is backwards

Put a sock on the 6:15 pod, anti hydralock between pod and throttle body, until then stay away from standing water puddles
Is there no MAF on this car?
Did you end up removing the factory airbox?
The cone filter as installed here is backward.

I LOVE YOUR DESIGN !!! KEEPZ WATER DOWN !! DRIVING ON RAINY DAYZ !! CH33RZ JOHN!!

Engine getting a nice supply of cool air, nice job! Very very cool
Damn you're a genius man. Now I'm about to try that idea on my civic 👍
Done the same thing in my Hyundai Verna and Mitsubishi Lancer a year back .... Sounds like Sweetheart
It is closer to that radiator, im thinking not the safest location
You can think the weight gain would neglect the .40 of horsepower boost
hello sir what diy do you have for 2014 chevy silverado 1500 5.3 porting the factory airbox. get back at me plz
LOL Did u say “like this 305z”?
