Hi Mr Norcross, I have a variety of steels with my swords all of my spring steels are western sabres and Euro swords. Japanese and Hollywood ninja ones range from carbon steel to folded steel with one T10. I have cut with 1566 carbon steel and it is solid. I have cut bamboo with T10. Have had mixed results with folded steel.
Thank you for the review! Moritaka really does some nice work.
If you don't care about hamon aesthetics then spring steel is the way to go. But probably the ideal steel imo is SX105v because it has about as good of bend and break resistance as you're going to ever need, but much better edge retention than spring steel, and even shock steel.
Just ordered the Moritaka “Black Gale” from RVA. It arrives tomorrow. Very excited! This is my first sword ever so I did about a good, solid month of research (everyday) on various aspects of Katanas and all of it lead to 9260 springs steel being the best starting point for beginners! Needless to say, Moritaka made the most sense to me in terms of value. I’ll definitely get fancier later but for now L, I’m very happy with my decision.
Awesome choice!!
I just bought a sword with 1095 steel love the s5 steel better
