The band grew up. Got married. Started families. The music evolved and became more produced but still has a great commercial audience. I think the boys hate that but business is business. I would still go see them in a heartbeat. Its a beautiful war!

Amendment to previous comments. I perceived KOL's apparent lack of enthusiasm as disdain for the business but upon hearing more about how fans of their older work are bagging on the current work because of its commercial appeal, I realize they are just pissed off that the fan base is not willing to let them evolve as artists.
Robert LoBosco yeah really. Those "fans" are dicks who are trying to hold on to the past and are too ignorant to understand that even the best bands have to evolve at some point. Kings of Leon still make great music regardless of what those "fans" think.

I came here to watch "Red Morning Light" ...my favorite early KoL song, but I may like "Happy Alone" even more. Awesome stuff.

shame they never play it anymore, one of my all time favourites, one of their best lyrics wise, and Caleb's first song he wrote on a guitar.
It's my favorite song of theirs...they were on to something that they let go of in this era. Man, sometimes things come and go.
I like how they grew up from those desperate wannabe indie rockstars to four full grown man playing beautiful and sad songs like adults. I know that phase was important to them, but thank God they evolved to what they are now. And if you're a hipster that can't see how better they become and how important their growth was to rock music, you're just childish.

All good bands evolve. Each of their records are so different but all great in their own way. It wouldn't be very exciting if they released youth and young manhood, youth and a little bit older manhood, etc, etc

Sophisticating your production is not an issue. But the problem with their music evolution, if you will, is beyond that. I do understand that bands change, but I don't have to like what they've become.

13 years later and I still never thought a band from the south could be so pretentious. They’re good tho
I understand that they’ve evolved. But that is the natural process of a band as they mature and grow in their musicianship. Besides sex on fire, use somebody, they’ve not made music for the masses. Through it all, they’ve kept their music real. It’s still really good, pure music, maybe not as ‘raw’ as it may have been, but nevertheless good.
