    Hey great playing! I recently got the “Special 16”, a Guitar Center / Sweetwater version of the D-16E. From my understanding the only difference is the Special is a full size instead of the more shallow D-16. Oh and plus the tuning heads are closed on the Special. I Iove it! It’s my first Martin.
    Thanks for this review!

    Great demo, Jarvis. I think the way to think about this guitar is to think of it as a large body OM. It has the OM depth and OM light gauge strings, rather than the mediums you find on standard Martin dreads. And it is wonderful for playing fingerstyle. This guitar doesn’t sound particularly good with hard strumming but with the electronics package you don’t need to strum hard. Thanks again, Jarvis!

    With all the attention the Martin SC-13 has gotten, I feel the Martin GPC-16 (solid wood at a similar price (smidgen higher) & American rather than Mexican made) is better and largely gets overlooked. Would love to see you review this. Maybe even compare the mahogany and rosewood models. They sound better to my ear than the more expensive offerings from Taylor. I'm a sucker for good Auditorium guitars but hate the Taylor brightness. Also have not seen too many Japanese built Alverez-Yairi guitars. Just an idea, but with your experience, how about releasing a top 10? list of guitars you would recommend at various price/type points?

    Hey Jarvis, nice demo! Thinking about getting one of these but also considering the Gibson J45 Studio. Do you have an opinion/preference on D16E vs J45 other than the J45 being about $500 more?

    Compare with the Martin SC 13E, the one sounds better also worthier for the money, because it is an USA made solid wood Martin D series. I was going to pick one CS13, but after few research and this video I changed my mind. Can any one give me a suggestion?

    Great review! I was wondering, with the thinner depth, does the volume sound just as loud as normal dreadnought like the D-18?

    • @TheGuitarSpaSingapore
      @TheGuitarSpaSingapore  3 года назад

      its still loud

      Think of it as a typical 000 style guitar. It is pretty much as loud, but doesn't have the overtones of a full size dread because the sound is being forced out quicker and not bouncing off as much space inside the guitar. But it has the depth of sound of a dreadnought. If that makes sense to you. I recently bought one of these and it is quickly becoming my go to. I finger pick about half the time and it's perfect for that. It is also much better plugged in than a dreadnought at louder volumes and produces a lot less feedback issues. That was what Martin was going for, a stage ready guitar with less feedback issues of a typical dreadnought. And it is super comfortable sitting or standing. What I wish is Martin offer these without pickups and allow us to choose our own pickup system. I'm actually considering ordering a custom D16 to my specs without a pickup system. These guitars are a great value and IMO the best value since the original D16 came out, before they started cheapening them with richlite and mortise and tenon joints etc. These have the new simple dovetail joints which are not a lot different than the actual dovetail. Hope that helps.
