nearly identical design on our Sub-Zero never had icing issue over 20+ years, replaced with GE and been experiencing this sheet on our Monogram consistently for over a decade now

I implemented K Kareta's idea and used 10g bonding wire clamped onto a segment of the defrost heater and then extending into the drain opening. So far so good!

Despite the drain and S trap being cleaned thoroughly, I have experienced the same problem x3. What's weird is that for many years this was not a problem and like Ludwig, we too had very little debris in the drip tray or trap. I found that if you take out the bottom four drawers, you will be able to see the drain opening on right. This will allow you to target your water and a wide zip tie into the drain opening. Also, if you take off the thin plastic cover at the bottom front of the freezer, you can look under the freezer and see where the off-white S-shaped drain is and see when your zip tie comes out. At this point, I really like @kkareta5189's idea below and I will give it a try.

Had the same problem with my Monogram freezer. Seems to be resolved as I took a 12g copper wire with no insulation and hung it from the defrost heater element directly above the drain. The copper wire extends into the drain so when the defrost cycle engages, the copper wire warms up and helps to melt any ice formed in the drain.

@@Aeorator I have the exact same side-by-side set up - and the exact same problem so was happy to find your video! I'm not super handy, but would like to try the copper wire solution. Any chance you plan to publish a video of that project?

@@Aeorator Hi Ludwig - just checking in to see how the copper wire solution is working out. I just did another full hair dryer defrost of the ice buildup around the drain. If I don't do it every couple of weeks the bottom of my freezer turns into a frozen block of ice and begins to melt at the front edge, leaking out and on to the floor. Anyway, desperate for a solution! Thanks!
