    I'm still gobsmacked as to how many classic villains CO have treated us to over the past year. Sensorites, Voord, Androids, Raston Warrior Robot, now 80s Silurians... It's just like the pre-2010s with all this merchandise attention.

    Generally shocked when I stumbled across these on a post on instagram, I generally thought it was a fan made thing as I’ve noticed that’s growing in popularity now. But I had to double check and had mine ordered within seconds 😁

    This is such a lovely set, I'm so excited to get my hands on one of those Silurians. I feel like a 70s one would be doable, in the same way they've done this one, a new torso and head with the sea devil arms and legs, maybe use the hands and feet from this figure, maybe do them new, I'd be happy to see that. If not it's great that we at least have some form of classic Silurian, the 80s version is at least recognisably the same creature as the 70s one, which the 2010 version just isn't at all. I've got my set ordered, looking forward to it arriving.

      I too reckon they could reuse a fair bit from these figures for a 70's version, although if I remember right they had more noticeably clawed hands and feet that would need new sculpts. Then again even if not completely accurate I'd be all for a classic Silurian figure.

    Ordered mine as soon as i woke up for work this morning (Im in the USA). Brilliant set and shows how awesome figures can truly still be made with some clever and crafty reuse than is barely noticeable (as you said, if I hadn’t read it, I doubt I’d have realized the Sea Devil body was the base body until I got mine and was playing with them together in a battle scenario- er, I mean lining them up like n adult collector on a shelf for a cold, sterile observation of the- oh sod it, yes, the kid in me is alive and well and cant wait to get his Silurians!!!! Woooowhoooo!!!! And I find it amusing how many people mention how much they want the 70’s Silurians while praising these. CO really seem to be hitting home runs out of the park with each exclusive, and tho they have said these will never be available again (why? I mean I can understand wanting people to buy them to ensure a sell out but NEVER again? Seems a bit drastic?) I do hope the body mods can be used for a 70’s rendition of everyone’s favorite Cave Monsters (no offense to the Androzani Magma Monster). Seems with the shell removed and a new head and neck/chest frill would more than adequately do the jobbo! And as some have suggested, a 3 pack could be 2 70’s Silurians (the Young and Old Silurian is anyone remembers the Target novelization) and a Pertwee head atop a repainted Capt Jack/Brig/Auto overalls body for the Doc’s spelunking kit! Would be brill! Heck, stick a Liz Shaw head atop a Jo Grant mini skirt/hooker boots bod and that’d be a dandy 3 pack as well!!! So many possibilities, I just wish CO would do multiple sets a year…like one set every few months, surely that’s do-able? In any case, LOVE LOVE LOVE these slithery scaly synthesized superb Silurians of Sea Base One! :-)

    Great review. These figures look really nice, and honestly I think it's smart to release a set of Silurians even if it's not everyone's favourite versions from the original series, they're characters people have wanted to see get made for a long time so I imagine a lot of people will go for these, especially when there's no guarantee of them making the 70's designs.
    Saying that though I imagine if this set sells well they'll give us the 70's versions later, either as another set with multiple Silurians or (albeit unlikely since it'd be a lot of new sculpting) I'd love a set with a 70's Silurian and the dinosaur from that same story.
    I'll be honest I haven't collected these figures in years but I'd be back on board if they finally gave us 70's Silurians, that was quite the void in my collection back in the day.

    Fantastic review as always Matthew. I have a theory that we may get a warriors of the deep set in the next B&M wave that will have some Sea Devils and Tagan hopefully. Personally I would have proffered to have Silurians from the 3rd doctor era, just because I think their design is better and so is the story.

    • @thepartworkscomicsreader9488
      @thepartworkscomicsreader9488 2 года назад +1

      My pedictions for B&M following the theme are The Silurians with 3rd Doctor in coverall using the Laszlo body with a pair of Silurians sharing parts with these but a new body wrap and detailing and a Warriors of the Deep with 5th Doctor in radiation gear maybe modifying the space suit figures and a pair of Sea Devil Warriors based on Hame. I was looking at Judoon for the 80s Sea Devils but the torso being set up so differently on them and the existing textures wouldn't work, was really just the general shape of the shoulders that had me thinking of them.
      Not sure if dedicated companion 3 packs are something they'll try again or last year's approach of an odd figure in an episode specific set is the way forwards. The UNIT, 4th and 13th sets I enjoyed but it was a LOT of companions and not many monsters all at once. So long as there are monster based sets out at the same time I wouldn't mind a 1st Doctor companions and a 5th Doctor companions based on some of the same bodies being part of the assortment.

      Probably will end up with a 3 pack with a normal sea devil with a bit of a new paint job, a 70s silurian using a tooled version of this mold and probably a sea devil's or the silurian 3rd doctor. Only really see them doing a warrior sea devil in another online since a lot of it would be new tooling.

    I wonder if the clamshell chest armour thing is a separate piece. It looks it, with how the spines look. If so, then they could remove it, and add a new 70s designed head with that cowl thing they had round their necks. And the usual repainted bits.

    Hi there, love you reviews, but your always say light washes on top.... washes are diluted darker paint to show cracks/detail between raised areas, but the highlights on top are not washes, they are dry-brushed (very little paint on the brush) to highlight raised areas and edges. Just to let you know. Now, where are the classic Silurians...

  • @projectdalekmark
    @projectdalekmark 2 года назад

    I think the ball joint arms are a bad idea. You can't pose them as if they're pressing their wrist band. I think it's even more shameful they didn't do a full sculpt of the arms and legs considering the cost. The detail pattern on the actual Silurians is quite apparent. Very disappointed.
