This week we were joined by Scott & Vik Harrison from "charity: water". They shared stories of life in developing countries without clean water. People who share water sources with crocodiles, drink water with leeches in them and water that more closely resembles chocolate milk.

Thank you so much to everyone that has joined us in donating to charity: water! We appreciate you all so much!
Thanks for having Scott on!
Matt and everyone else, don’t even listen to the comments who don’t pass the vibe check here… I for one did not find it hard to watch one bit!! I think most people can agree with me that their story and mission intrigued me to the core and it WAS structured well. (but missed Abby, of course) :))
I loved having this couple! Their testimony is so hard to hear but so refreshing to see the changes the Lord has made in them. Love getting into the meaningful convo.
I agree! @Abi-Marie!
EXACTLY!!!
Just donated $20 - let's see how much we can raise for Charity Water via RUclips & show the power of Matt & Abbey's community.
I went to Catholic college and knew a nun who worked at the leper colony on Molokai in Hawaii. She lost her nose to leprosy. God bless her, she wore a prosthesis. Her spirit of love and caring for others was bigger than the hardship.
Im not ususlly one to comment on videos but I watch your podcast weekly and love it every time. I honestly was so touched by this and donated $10 today. I just found out I'm pregnant and hearing how so many mothers lost their babies due to dehydration and no drinking water broke my heart. Thank you so much for sharing this.
That makes us so happy! Thank you for being generous enough to actually go and donate. It really means a lot
This is a great interview!!
I like that Matt started by asking Scott and Vik about their crazy, loud, single lives in NYC and then moves to the deeper stuff. He started at the beginning which really built a foundation and helped me to better see the contrast that Scott felt when he began visiting these third world countries.
I also love how Matt bounces around a little throughout the interview because my ADHD brain does the same thing so I feel it 😂
Love this pod!!
This podcast is real and raw, it doesn't matter if you thought something was an "awkward moment" or made you mildly "uncomfortable" what matters is the charity they are promoting. I'm sure the people without clean water are much more "uncomfortable". Thank you Matt and Abby for an amazing podcast! I look forward to your stories every week and look forward to your podcasts! Thank you also for promoting charity water, I didn't know they existed and am glad I know now!
This Is the BEST Guests you've had on!! So Humble & an Amazing Charity!!! ❤❤❤
I am SO EXCITED to share this to at least 2 more people!!! Matt PLEASE make sure to keep us updated on what our funds are doing. Thank you for sharing this!!! ❤❤❤
I agree - I can't wait to learn about how much we can raise!
Thank you for donating! Abby and I just donated too! We really believe in what charity: water is doing!!
@@UnplannedPodcast I sent the podcast out to 5 other people!!! 🙌🏻❤️
I absolutely loved this episode! I'm 15 and just went on my very first mission trip to Zambia, Africa about 3 weeks ago in a little orphanage (I won't say the name for safety reasons) but I love their charity, as someone who just got to experiance and see right in front of my eyes families drinking un-clean water, everything they said is true, our group had the opportunity to get and go into the villages for a few days and typically when you hear "village" you think a bunch of small homes, but these villages are like nothing you'll ever experience, the villages contain littles huts with straw, hand made bricks, and mud, these families that can contain several people are having to sleep in the dirt under the little hut, they go up to DAYS maybe even WEEKS without food or water (and if they do have water, it's not clean) especially right now when we went, they are in a very serious drought, all of their crops are dead and seeing the look on the village peoples faces as they are just heart broken that they have NOTHING to offer us, but we were just thankful to be able to share the Gospel with them. But please please pray for the people of Zambia and the horrible drought they are experiencing. The water charity is incredible, I recommended checking out their website as they are doing the Lord's work and it's incredible. :)
I got to seem him speak at Belonging Co church in Nashville and it was amazing. It was so eye opening. I think it’s amazing you decided to use your platform to spread this message
This has to be the most inspirational episode Matt and Abby! Thank you both so much for bringing this to my families attention. We have decided every month we are going to give 1 family night out up, stay at home and play board games instead and donate the money to charitywater . So thank you all so much for inspiring and changing the world 1 well at a time and for opening up mine and my families eyes to bigger things than our spoiled American issues. God bless you Scott,Vik,Matt and Abby❤️🤍💙
If Matt is really wondering, they do not lace “special candy” by accident. It is all on purpose and it’s to stretch out their supply for cost expenses. More money made and less product actually being used
And to make the customers addicted to keep coming back.
I was thinking we have 3 bedrooms 2 baths, but didn't even think of the fridge, dishwasher, washing machine, ect. I never thought of that before. What a wonderful charity. I'm so glad you had them on your podcast. I learned so much.
Really enjoy this podcast, whether it's a very real, honest conversation between M&A, or the great guests you bring on. Charity Water does incredible work, been following them for years, happy to see your audience gain insight into what they do. Please invite Gabor Mate to the show.
😊
This was a great way to share such a good charity. I’ve never heard of a charity where 100% of your donation is really going to the cause. I counted my taps, I have 9 places to get clean water in my house and I just can’t imagine a life where I would have to walk 6+ hours to “clean” water in order to support myself and my family. It’s crazy to think that would be my life if I was born somewhere like those countries instead of America.
I think Abby would’ve had a great perspective to share as a mom, but I also love Matt sitting down and just trying to learn about it like the rest of us. I think they make an amazing team doing pod casts together, but I think Matt did so good, especially by himself. People are too harsh and need to focus on the point of this podcast.
Agreed!! Most of the initial comments on this vid do NOT pass the vibe check.
This pod ep is fantastic and Matt (& Abby, but she wasn't in this one) deserve so much credit for the hard work they put in, especially to spread awareness of more serious issues like this one.
Thank you! Scott and Vik are the real deal. We feel extremely blessed to be in a position to raise awareness for the incredible work they’re doing
@@UnplannedPodcast thank you! Without this podcast, I would have never heard about the amazing work they do.
Thank you for your comment and perspective. I love that you counted the number of taps in your house. I hadn’t thought of that and it was a great way to make this information personal! Ohhh the comparison of that access really hit me.
I am really excited to learn about this charity and love their hearts of service!!!
Love how you used your platform to support a charity!
My husband visited the town Selalejo in Indonesia and they have dirty drinking water. They walk every day down a long hill to get it and carry it in jugs back to their village. They are desperate for help! Please help them!
This episode was such a pleasant surprise!! I've been following Scott and Vik on social media for a few years now. What they do is so inspirational ☺️
I love how excited Matt gets. It's like he forgets that they already know their own story. Haha... This is a great interview.
I don’t think people are listening to the full podcast. They are sharing their story and Matt is doing great and keeping conversation steady. Great listen!!
It breaks my heart that people in this world don't have access to something like water ❤ Thank you Scott, Vik and Charity water for the blessing you are providing so many ❤
I am from Ethiopia. Thank you for everything you do❤
Victoria and Scott Harrison they are our neighbors!!! We are going to donate too!!! Love u guys!!❤❤❤
Dang, great interview it's amazing 🎉 how many wells there's meant, plus all the stories. It hits your heart ❤ great job, guys🎉
I can not believe what they do for water companies that is insane I can’t imagine how they would do this for the rest of their life like this. I’m so fascinated
My great uncle was a catholic priest and worked all his priest life on Madagascar. He became very ill and he could have come back but he wanted to stay there till end.
Love love LOVE y’alls podcast! I’ve been binge watching/listening for about a month now starting at episode 1 and you guys have now become my favorite podcast - which says a lot for me because there are 2 other podcasts i’ve listened to for years that I adore
Wow! How privileged we are. This was a decent podcast. Way better than the brain doctor. I like their story and passion. The stories from Africa are so sad.
This is such a beautiful interview. Thank you for doing this! My husband has recently found God and is getting baptized this week and it’s so encouraging to hear other couples trying to find meaning and serve. This is just so touching and inspirational
I have a 19 yr. and I get very emotional to hear this because my child has always had a good past and present!
Omg who else loves all this episode so interesting
👇
It’s so heartwarming to see how easy Matt can relate to people older than him, who have completely different life experience are probably very different in their personalities. Looks like he ( Matt) does not have any problem go into the s*** with people and come out with them clean not judging them, not putting himself on “I am better” shelf and just having fun about it. That’s gold right there✨✨✨💰💰
Scott looks like Leonardo DiCaprio!
I have 7 taps in my studio apartment (which is crazy)! I joined the spring for $7 monthly in honor of this challenge. Thank you for shining light on an amazing charity!
This is very eye opening. The story about the 13 year old girl will forever haunt me. Thanks guys for sharing this 😢
She reminds me of Drew Barrymore! Great episode so far!
I live in Finland where maternal and infant mortality rates are incredibly low. But going back looking at my family trees just a 100-150 years ago, this was literally the situation back then, like my great grandparents came from these families where they had like 8 children and only 2 survived past 5 yrs old due to disease, nutritional deficiencies and lack of healthcare and health knowledge. Crazy how much things have developed for the better in such a relatively short amount of time, and so sad that in some countries the situation is still so bad.
I read the comments first and now that I´ve heard the podcast, I agree that it started out a little bit weird but gets better. This is soooo interesting!
I think Matt & Abby are a good team. Abby helps to buffer and bring the conversation around when Matt trails off or disrupts the flow.
Well, that's a backhanded compliment to post it on this particular video.
Especially since Abby was not present for this interview, right!
Abby wasn't even on this episode
I think maybe keep in mind that this conversation they had was probably longer than the 1hr45min we get to listen to and the editing may make that feel choppy and “disrupt the flow”
Please interview eamon and bec. They are an absolutely amazing and inspiring couple that have overcome so many obstacles. Please!!!
Absolutely bawling xxx This is amazing!!!
Youre a really great host, bringing it around to both guests and asking great leading questions
Edit: 5 taps in my apartment (including fridge, toilet, shower no dishwasher or washing machines) but I'll include the jug of filtered water in the fridge which now that I think about it where I live in Canada has some of the cleanest tap water in the world and I'm still filtering it. Crazy. $6 dollars a month isn't a lot but it's honestly all I can do right now. Thanks for sharing!
Such a great episode, loved hearing about all of this ❤
Excellent episode! I loved how you paved the way with their backstory.
I read his book years ago! This feels so random but I love it!!
I absolutely love this podcast
This was a great episode. I enjoyed the entire thing. Great questions from Matt.
Great episode!
my mum was on mercy ships with scott harrison !!!!! so cool love the podcast
This was a very interesting and great show but disjointed because the guests had to share a microphone. They should have their own microphone so there is a better back and forth. Also a couple small side tables to set drinks on would be nice for guests. You and Abby have a great podcast and great guests. Keep it growing!
You make a good point, however I suspect that something technical went wrong. We’ve seen them with more than two hosts where they all have mics. Hopefully they take some of the constructive criticism.
My parents were missionaries in Bangladesh and my older brother was born with a double cleft lip and pallate. They ended up having to mive home much sooner (still after 14 years) than they planned to have all the surgeries and orthodontic work required. It's definitely not just cosmetic. Breast milk would just come pouring out of his nose when he was a baby
Loved this podcast
Matt you looked so uncomfortable on that little couch..
Awesome episode!
I love this beautiful story and how you guys changed your life around 😁
Praise the Lord
Very good podcast
Matt, I can see you’re passionate and want to improve! You’re doing well! One tip- ask open ended questions that don’t make any assumptions about guests or their answers. I can see how your questions try to build rapport by going into detail, kind of guessing what they’re going to say or relating by telling your perspective, but I promise the guests will be able to say a lot more from the heart when you let go of the narrative you have in your head because at the end of the day, it’s their story, and you are here to showcase it, not control it. The kind of rapport building that you’re doing currently comes off as predicting stories and emotions through questions and unfortunately can often make seem self-absorbed to guests and/or listeners. This small change can really alter the dynamic of how your guests tell their stories and how the podcast is received in general, although you’re already doing great!
Yes! Totally agree. Matt should look into “Motivational Interviewing.” It’s a therapeutic tool, but teaches you to ask open ended questions and use reflections.
Love your podcast! I hope you'll have sam and monica, sam and jess, merrell twins, tori and chad masters, dr rena malik, and mama doctor jones
YES! i would LOVE to see Sam and jess on the pod!
Omg yes to Mama Doctor Jones!
Great podcast. “The gift of pain” by Paul Brand. Amazing doctor who worked in India.
Ecstasy laced with MDMA 😂😂 I think you would want it to be MDMA..
i was thinking that too!! 😂
It should be a 0% fee for these credit cards if they prove the money is going to charity
Um MDMA is ecstasy ?
People in the First World are so privileged. There are real people with major problems while people in the West and Europe complain about everything and anything.
We can’t get Americans to drink enough water and others would give their life for clean water😢😢
Can you keep us updated on how much we raise? I’d love to see enough raised for at least 1 well!
What an amazing guest to have on the show. Great choice guys!
Donation made! Great organization and compelling couple. Missed Abby today, but always happen to listen. 😊
Great podcast! More guests like this please 🙏 Signed up for a monthly donation.
Matt's reaction to them doing 'cocaine and drugs' is so wholesome 😂
Was not expecting that haha
Where is Abby
They should give all of the profits they made from this podcast across all platforms to charity water
I'm curious why neither the organization, "charity water" or this couple's first and or last names are not listed in description or title of this podcast. You, I, would think they would want it promoted, in fact, there is zero mention of them other than description of certain things that are discussed. Weird
It's in the description but it is weird how it's not in title.
maybe they updated it
It's all there in description including a link to their Charity water Website. Click to open it all the way up and click "more" and scroll.
I was thinking the same. Would be nice for it to be in the title and talked about more throughout. We shouldn't have to click around and figure it out ourselves
I think they edited the opening to this vid because it's up now 0:28
It seems like it must have just been a mistake and was not put in by accident. It's in now!!
Uhhhmmm where is Abby 😳
She said in a previous podcast that she has been taking some time off because of a family situation and Matt is taking on some more of the interviews. She’ll be back. Don’t worry.
We needed Abby on this one to keep the timeline and flow together 😅
I think Abby is getting bored with the social media thing now. I always wondered if it was more Matt’s idea.
You don't have to wonder, they have said it was his idea in so many of their videos.
8:15 “well we started in an odd spot matt” LMFAO also matt’s uncomfortable laugh that lasted like 10 secs???
Has he not been completely transparent about having social anxiety?? Sheesh.
Tell us how to donate…sorry to be naive, but tell me…like you’re talking to a child….how to get money to charity water
There is a link in the BIO that you can donate. Press more in the description ❤
Just click on the link in their description box and it takes you to the right place
or just google “charity water”
She kinda favors Drew Barrymore.
Interesting and very sad topic. It blows my mind that sooo many people across the world don’t have access to clean water. The stories they spoke of about the kids broke my heart. It’s not something my mind can even wrap around. I can’t begin to imagine my little grandbaby walking for hours and hours to get dirty water. It so easily could have been US that were born in that part of the world. Count your blessings, be thankful for the small things. To millions of people, they aren’t so small.
On another note…Matt, you’re getting hate from people about various things. I personally think you’re a breath of fresh air. Your innocence about the bad things going on in the world is a credit to your parents. Keep singing, keep dancing, keep being you. Don’t let anyone kill your spirit.
Where is Abby?
yess I missed Abby on this one!
My guess is she either couldn't make the trip or didn't think she could handle the sad topics
Matt laughing at inappropriate times😮
Some people in these comments!
Where is Abby? Wish there was an explanation of why she wasn't there
There was an explanation, family situation. Think that's more important.
@kells1784 I didn't heat where anyone said where she was. And yes family is always more important so no need ot get snippy
They do a lot of pre-recording. This interview could have taken place while Abby was taking time off to grieve her grandfather.
Leprosy is curable with modern antibiotics.
If these countries don’t have access to clean water, I doubt they have access to modern antibiotics unfortunately
💜
Also, just want to ask: how many people actually donated after watching this? Can everyone who donated comment on here?
dont keep asking questions they avoid or clearly dont wanna talk about like getting his life threatened he turned away u brought it up again and he said “woah were getting str8 into it” he was clearly a bit uncomfortable and kind of making fun of there expierence like half the world did crazy shit yall are just goodie goodies.
you guys dont deserve the negative comments❤
Omg stop it ..
why?
I actuality think Matt did pretty well. The beginning was uncomfortable FOR SURE but the rest of the podcast went great
matt. you manage to slip in your life story of getting married and having kids young EVERY SINGLE EPISODE. i totally get that that is a natural part of conversation and introductions to people, but do that off of the podcast. let this 1+ hour video of your guests be about them. you can relate to them and share life stories in regular conversations off camera.i genuinely love watching you and abby but this is a problem that occurs every single week that makes the podcast hard to watch sometimes.
YES
Some have said he can not help it, due to his ADHD diagnosis, but I wonder if he is just wired that way. Modeling also has so much to do with how a person is, reacts, engages!
It is a thing with ADHD. Even though, I know that I do that too, I try to show empathy through talking about my experience.
Its not being intentionally "self centered" its a way for me to try to connect.
Sry for my bad English. I'm not a native. ;-)
For all of you wondering "Where is Abby?" Please focus people...I set up an account to commit to $5usd per month...I am in Canada....its essentially one Starbucks per month...start small and watch it grow!
🤍
EArlllyyy🎉
It’s ending up in the drugs bc it’s cheaper
Wow. Just donated. This touched me. We don’t understand how easy we have it here in the US. Praying for more resources for them. 🤍🙏🏼
First :) hi!!
Please, let the guests share their story. It is about them, not the podcast host, right!
Agree in this episode Matt was a bit rude :(
YOU are rude!
I don’t think Matt is rude at all. I think he is really excited for these guests and he did the best he could as a host! Let’s stay positive you guys!
I hope Matt can see this as constructive criticism. This is a serious topic if he wants to have this type of discussions with guests he needs to be more respectful and share less personal antidotes. I say this with love.
I don’t think his intention was at all to be rude. And honestly, I don’t find it rude at all… it’s called having a conversation, they are all contributing
I think Matt did a great job. He doesn't know the first thing about what they do, yes the questions aren't the greatest and he'd rather hear party stories but he kept the conversation going. You have to also remember that this is the first time he's meeting them so it'll be a little awkward at points.
That's not much of an excuse. If this is their job, like they claim it to be, they need to take it seriously which means doing your research on your guests before hosting them. They've had this podcast for over a year and there is absolutely no effort on their part to improve their interviewing or hosting skills.
They meet before the podcast… they fly out to their guests and usually spend a couple days w them.
“He doesn’t know the first thing about what they do” I disagree. I think he was excited because he knew about these two and thus really wanted to come onto the show. He wouldn’t be as nearly excited if he “doesn’t know the first thing about what they do.”
@cassyschraft6268 I couldn't help but notice that your comments are always negative? Do you watch just to nit pick at everything?
@@kells1784 I mean, there are entire subreddit communities full of miserable people dedicated to snarking and hating on Matt and Abby. I’m guessing Cassy Schraft belongs to one of them.
Why is he so focussing on drugs?? That is not the point of the interview.
Bc it's part of their story! Are you listening or reading comments????
FREEE PALESTINE 💔💔🇵🇸🇵🇸
God blesses those who bless Israel. Dont be on the Devils side.Jesus coming back soon
I'd be a little careful with those views, if you truly believe Jesus is coming back. He said, "There is neither Jew nor Greek" afterall.
Stop bashing Matt and start thanking him for an intriguing podcast that’s informational about different topics and appeals to everyone from sheltered kids to people struggling with drug addiction that might have needed to hear that the rush isn’t worth it. No matter what they’re having a good time with good conversation. If you’re looking for something else in a podcast keep looking
Who cares what people write. THEY DO NOT READ THEIR COMMENTS! Both Matt & Abby have stated this numerous times. They want the clicks, the views and the engagement but… they will NEVER interact in the comment section.
Exactly. Focus on the importance of the podcast not the interviewer, I hope those criticizing Matt did the donation already.
