    I do that all the time with all the old bits at my barn but I put all the bits into one big container altogether and just leave it over night and the results are fantastic

      With baking soda too? Or just vinegar. Stupid question but yeah☺

    You could use anything to clean it that you want and then put hot water in a pot and put the pot on the stove and wait til it gets scorching hot put a bit in and it will sanitize and get any chemical or residue junk off

    Before you move, is there anyway you can do a series of maintaining smaller horse properties such as turnout, stalls, exercising in the space?

    • @BudgetEquestrian
      @BudgetEquestrian  7 лет назад

      What an excellent video idea! Thank you BreeKayBe :)And very appropriate as we navigate through the home selling process, because we want to make sure our property looks it's best all the time while it is listed for sale :)

      That would be great! I'm stressing as I know we most likely will not be purchasing more than 5 acres ourselves and pasture maintenance is something I'm really concerned about and the mud aspect after and during rain.

    You need to be very careful if you are dealing with nickel plate bits because the plating can start to peel off leaving sharp edges

    hey Lisa if you wer to try this again you could actually put tin foil in with the mixture and leave it to sit im not sure how but the tin foil seams to make it work better! just crumple up some pieces and trow it in! it would also help if you put the bits into the vinegar and then the baking soda and if you use the tin foil to put it in with the bits

    Maybe a little less of the baking soda? Vinegar is an acid and baking soda neutralizes it. There used to be a show on the BBC and the 2 women used vinegar to clean bathroom fixtures a lot. Never left it too long thought as it would damage the metal.
    If any of the bits have copper mouths, smear ketchup on them. Leave it on for a while for best results. May have to apply 2 or 3 times, but the tomato acid will make them Shiny!

      Would it work to just soak the bit in straight vinegar? I recently bought a used bridle and the bit in came with is really dull and tarnished.

      Hi Grace!
      Frisby is a Hanoverian, and just turned 20 years old. I have had him since he was 9, and he is about 16.2 -16.3, and Ethan is a Thoroughbred, and he is 9 years old now, and about 16 hands tall. I have had him for almost 2 years now. Thank you for watching my videos, it means a lot. 😃

    When you were scrubbing the bit did you use any kind of soap? Or just elbow grease?😂😂

    I don't get adding bicarbonate a base to vinegar an acid-they should cancel each other out (?)

    • @BudgetEquestrian
      @BudgetEquestrian  7 лет назад

      I think the fizzy action is what works, I don't know that they cancel each other out, but they could.

    All that water wasted!!! Tap left running & for what. Babies & children with no drinking water in Wigan. That same finish could have been achieved by using a bottle of Coke from the corner store! & Cheaper by far.

    The bit you think is a good bit is a cruel bit to use on any horse.
