Festival da Canção had 3 Standouts for me: Ivandro, You can't win Charlie Brown, and (The sublime) Edmundo Inácio. They are all on my 2023 lost songs playlist. Bless you Portugal
You guys have the best, more adorable, funniest review. I am Portuguese. This song is actually talking about the anxiety and agony of being madly in love and needing to know wether the one you love loves you back, and yes, she is in agony but she is cheeky about it. The style is definitely a combination of traditional Portuguese elements (Marchas De Lisboa, castanholas do Minho, musica Pimba, filigree gold, etc) with a little can can flavor. I don't know if it will win, let's hope it will! (vote! 💖) , but it's unique, not boring, and gets you dancing immediately. It grabs you and moves you. Thank you for you adorable review. 💖💖
With the little difference that this woman is a stage BEAST and seems to be even more cunning and almost as good of a singer as Salvador (by ESC winner standards, of course; his talent is off-the-charts, and I suspect he will hold on to his score record for decades - and it will likely be broken or otherwise rendered incomparable due to some scoring changes by EBU, as is their habit, or to an influx of new entrants - future post-Russian-Federation-collapse independent republics, I’m looking at you!). People may not exactly know or be able to articulate *why*, but they definitely recognize and appreciate vocal quality when they hear it. Then there’s her personality, flawless English, easy way with interviewers and fellow competitors alike and extreme professionalism (in one of her victory interviews she plainly stated that “work resumes on Monday”, and she also has a two-month-old baby to attend to and performed flawlessly during her semi-final while being ill, that’s just how badass this woman is). She may sound humble - and I believe she really is, in her own stealthy and stoic, Portuguese way -, but is definitely fighting for the trophy, not just for qualifying for the final or for ending up in the middle-left half of the final scoreboard. IMHO, anything less than a Top 10 result is either a massive, unlucky glitch (algorithms can absolutely make or break contestants, and if some other competitor manages to viralize in some way before or more than her - because she definitely has that potential, even though she probably won’t exploit it on purpose and it may just happen organically, whether the source is accidental, by some random third party, or pushed through by RTP or her fans -, I can see how that may turn the tide against her), or the result of a boycott or some other kind of foul play (which I just don’t see happening; there’s not much going in the way of politics in Mimicat’s song or performance, and our great relationship with the UK all but ensures the Beeb won’t come up with any weird shenanigans; in any case, I sincerely hope that with all eyes set on them due to recent scandals, like the egregious sacking and rehiring of Lineker, they’ll behave with everyone else as well, of course).
I think the song already stands out because of the musical-esque song structure. Then we have this very interesting mixture in the sound between circus-ish, polka and traditional portuguese influences (especially in the instrumental parts). This is unique, but at the same time accessable for televotes and juries. Even in SF1 this stands out, should qualify and is a clear Top 10 contender in the final as well. Love it!
Coming from a musician it's a great compliment, thank you because I'm Portuguese, she's fantastic and I think the music reflects the Portuguese people a lot, we're very 😉
I appreciate Portugal because they always give something of their own. Not typical radio song, not something that everyone will be humming, but the culture of their country, the language. Even if I don't like these songs, they are consistent.
I agree, except for the “not something that everyone will be humming”… Well, maybe not everyone will *hum* to it, but all will be *dancing* to it, which is even better 🙃
@@Mainyehc This year there is such a song. I was more concerned with the previous years, where they approached more artistically, folk, etc. than something to hum or dance.
I agree 100%! Being an older Eurovision fan from Canada, I love seeing Eurovision entries that are in their native language that are not trying to copy North American popular music from the radio. This is ta’anug! A joy to watch! This is Eurovision - an “international” festival of music! Go Mimicat!
The lyric translation makes it sound like a heartbreak but it’s absolutely not…. It’s a comic, silly representation of being in love, when you only do silly but lovely things, your heart races, you don’t think you’ll survive, even the doctor says there is no cure. It’s a really great song
Totally! I adore Loreen but her song is so similar to Euphoria. I think no previous participants should take part again. First of all, because is completely unfair! She's an international recognized artist... We need fresh air, give the stage for new artists, something different, something catchy, something fun and Mimicat brings us all this!
This has the best intergenerational televoting potential - fun, ethnic with rhythms that appeal directly to all of Southern Europe, she has great charisma and eats the camera, the song is very danceable and has a super catchy chorus. Not only it goes straight to the Finals in 1st place, it's a contender which for now is (thank God) off the radar... till the rehearsals. And then the jury will award a very good place because the composition is excellent and the vocal performance is strong and perfect. Staging: I have not the slightest doubt that after 2021 and 2022 it will be brilliant! It has enormous staging potential. In May you will come here to congratulate me!
Without any build up or hype (take note Sweden 😉) this has an instantly likeable feel to it. I think it’ll go down a storm in the arena and praying it goes through to the final 😀🇵🇹
Mimicat is her stage name, her real name is Marisa Mena. The title translated to English means “Oh heart”. The song talks about her being obsessed over someone that her heart stops acting normal. Loved your reaction, glad you like it!
Guys, I’m portuguese, following you for years! Do you know how many years I waited for this moment? It was worth it. I already saw this video at least 5 times
Fun Fact: Mimicat was the first ever winner of FdC from an open call submission! Idk how the rest of the country is feeling. The last few years' results have increased our thirst for success at ESC. Personally I'm just happy Mimicat is getting recognition as an artist (she has been making music and trying to have recognition in Portugal for more than 10 years and has gone unnoticed).
When i first heared the song i was like oh my what is this , but the more i listen to the song the more fun i find it and the more i like it ,the intro of the song reminds me of the La Llorona song from the movie Coco , its such a great choice by portugal and i loved last years entry , this one is fun and intrestingly weird but its good weird .
what a lovely review guys! ❤ I am an emigrant Portuguese and I will explain a bit more about the song. It is a funny, ironic song about love. About how we can get crazy in love and all the symptoms (chest tightness, anxiety, dry mouth, heads in the clouds and being quite forgetful, insomnia, almost not recognising yourself in a silly way). The rhythm changes throughout the song because ai coração means “oh my ❤”, so as the heart beat changes when you have anxiety or when you are too excited in love or when you have a problem in your heart (arrhythmia). She gets excited, she dances, she gets sensual and sexy she is on the sofa depressed when she goes to the doctor, then she gets melancholic (all that happens to anyone in love at times). Loved your reaction to it ❤
Haya!! I am THE José 💁🏻♂️😁 I really really really really really think this song combines perfectly With your vibe, Toy and Goy😁 the song reflects the authenticity with its roots, the joy of being alive and the singer shows the beauty of being herself while performing 👍🏽 authenticity, joy and beauty are three words That define Toy and Goy 😁🙏🏻 Thank You and a BIG HUG🤗🤗🤗
I like it a lot, it's unique! I know it's not going to win ar anything but I really hope it qualifies...I'm scared it won't be seen among other songs...
This is a great performance song. A Portugal Moulin Rouge. Not something I'd play in the car but think it'll be brilliant and fun to watch on the Eurovision stage. Brings a lot of energy and drama.
The lyrics are funny and in poetic format. It's not a funny haha but more lighthearted dig at her (mimicat) situation of her heart longing for someone.
I love it! Burt I’ve loved most of Portugal's entries, including the much maligned Telemovies which didn’t qualify, and Il Jardin which came last in the finals. This one should keep the televoters happy. It does feel very French with a bit of Portugal and the Wild West thrown in-like a Burlesque Saloon Bar performance.
I'm portuguese and I'm not being biased when I say Telemoveis should have won the whole thing. The most likely to win itfrom us for maaany years (yes even the guy who actually won it). There was something very wrong happening with the voting that year. Loooads of people loved it. It had the 'it' factor for sure.
you guys are really fun! Mimicat will have a good chance to get a good punctuation I think. Why the stress to be modern, when music should be timeless?
She brings a smile to almost every people I saw reacting and everyone starts dancing. She owns that stage she flirts with the camera and thus with us. I love it 💕
I really looked forward to your reaction and thank you for being so positive about the song and the overall performance. I’m sure it will do well and be elevated for the larger stage in Liverpool. Also, like most reactions everyone says the same thing…” I love it , I’m not sure if everyone will get it?”. If everyone is saying the same thing, then they will get it and people will appreciate it’s broad cultural qualities. Mimicat will deliver . A whole package in one. A story , a journey, a fun and cohesively put together performance in one sitting from end to end. Best of luck Mimicat! ❤
First of all thank you so much for enjoying our entry 🇵🇹💃, secondly, you are so entertaining and charismatic that I would choose you to host Eurovision, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks that way❤
The ballroom dance I could recognize was promenade runs from samba (which is very fitting with the Brazil and Portugal connection) I'm very, very happy with this (it was my second choice in that national final). I love the cabaret and latin inspired elements and it makes me happy that I'm actively stanning a Portugal entry which doesn't happen often for me.
the cool thing about this song, it's about being obsessed with someone that she doesnt feel like herself anymore but with the way it is written it represents like weird obsession for the hot person you know you can't have in a fun way not necessarily a full on love song more of a fun like "you're so damn hot and you don't care about me even tho yo make me feel all this things"
Mimicat and Ai Coração should be in Eurovision final and be voted to win. Amazing performance and incredible voice. The lyrics are also outstanding. It should win in Eurovision as won in Festival da Canção.
I really hope it qualifies. Portugal usually doesn't do well with upbeat songs and if this song doesn't make to the final Portugal will be sending ballads for the next 200 years.
I believe the "favourites" of Semi-final1 are now more worried about this entry rather than Portugal being worried about not qualifying just because they are in semi1 fighting against the theorical "favourites". You know how it works in Eurovision: you never know what will happen in the end... just saying! and most important: just enjoy the music you like!
Yay! So happy you guys like our entry! I told you it wouldn't be a band haha. Mimicat is fantastic! Goy: yes, it's a sexy fun song. The lyrics speak about how we feel when we fall in love:, heart beating faster, dry mouth, how we feel silly :). Mimicat (artistic name, her name is Marisa) is going to elevate the staging for Liverpool, perhaps we will see a whole cabaret? By the way, you lego looks incredible! Love to you both from Portugal :) 🇵🇹💃🏼💖
I think evereybody stay a little bit surprise at the begining, Portugal goes out of the melancoly and "saudade" theme... When the song goês on you end loving it , she mas power , Voice and Grace ... She. deserve more atention !!!!
I hope Portugal go to the final, it's hard but is possible because is a very different song, in comparassion of the others 36, but is a great song with a great performance (in semi final it will better), and a amazing voice MimiCat 🥰🤩😸
Everybodydid did know he was serious ill, so he got not only votes from people who loved his song the best but also many votes of people who wanted to show their sympathy for him.
As a Portuguese I’m rooting for mimicat in Eurovision. She has to go big with the staging and performance and put everyone to dance and smile. Loved your reaction ❤
Nice i m so happy than you like our entrie again this year. Like Maro she won jury and televote. We will see, last year you said than maro was not going to finish very high but she did the top 9. (One question, what we need to do if we became an ambassador, i didn't undersand, you did a video about this? Thanks for the response :)
The more you listen the more you like! It's addictive! I think about this song several times a day... I feel a frenzy in my body, it makes me want to dance! II is sung in Portuguese, funny, sexy without being ordinary, excellent performance, with the joy that also characterizes Portugal. And the world needs joyful music, tanking into account everything we are living.. Fantastic Mimicat. Fantastic music, lyrics and sound. Let's play again!!
I love you for loving Mimicat and her song. Well constructed, for example after her frist sung phrase the brass plays, after the second phrase you expect a similar thing, but the space that was filled with brass the first time is left empty.... Maybe they will fill it up with something for Liverpool (Remember the trumet beginning in Slomo last year, that was first heard in the rehersal in Turin)..... Maybe her face could be a bit lighter to be able to follow her expressions. And you can hear that she was struggling a bit with the last phrase. She ended up to high, but was correcting herself. Brilliant technique. Brilliant vocalist! Love her!!!! (Compare the ending to the Semi final performance or the studio version.)
it's a bit unfair the way the semis worked out this year - all the best songs in one, all the bad ones in the second. probably Switzerland, Malta, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Latvia won't make it, while in the second you'll get qualifiers like Belgium, Poland and San Marino.
A guy named José? Good wine? 😄 Nothing more Portuguese than that. Both Madeira and Porto are great wines. Now, you guys are the coolest. You always make me smile. Love your channel! This song is so much fun and she's an energic bomb. Very charismatic lady. As a Portuguese, I think this was the best choice from the national final. Not my favourite in musical terms but definitely the best choice for eurovision. There was a little bit of everything there at the nf - from rock to fado. At least this is fun and I love the choreography. Everything seems to work well there. It is as if they don't take themselves too serious and, at the same time, they're totally invested and making it work. Hopefully they'll make it to the final, just for the fun of it. The "ç" in "coração" sounds like the English "s". Cheers and thank you for another great video!

I hope Portugal go to the final, it's hard but is possible because is a very different song, in comparassion of the others 36, but is a great song with a great performance (in semi final it will better), and a amazing voice MimiCat 🥰🤩😸
You just have to vote for Portugal. Great reaction
Its not gonna win? Say that to Salvador Sobral
Everybodydid did know he was serious ill, so he got not only votes from people who loved his song the best but also many votes of people who wanted to show their sympathy for him.
@@Scheherasad he did not win because he was sick...
Love the song, the performance and your beautiful reactions.
Obrigada ❤️🇵🇹
I’ve watched so many of your videos that I can recite the opening lines along with you 😂😂 (where you say that it’s your honest opinion etc.)
True fan ! 😂😍😘
Who would have thought this year’s batch of hot male dancers would come from Portugal’s entry 😂
i love this song definately in my top 10 I hope it does well.
What a great reaction!..Thanks a lots.🙏🌹🌹kiss from Portugal 🇵🇹
As a Portuguese I’m rooting for mimicat in Eurovision. She has to go big with the staging and performance and put everyone to dance and smile. Loved your reaction ❤
She will
💚❤️🇵🇹👍🏻
You are the best! Adorei a vossa reação. Tão divertido. Obrigada. Beijinhos

Beautiful, go Mimicat Portugal ❤❤❤🇵🇹🇵🇹
Last years song was faaaaar better.
Portugal ❤is a funny and a happy Song ,about a woman love life ...
Mimicat❤️❤️❤️
OMG!!!! I love it! ❤️❤️❤️
Latina people are the best dancers
Whether you pass the under card or not, the music is beautiful and fun. In the present state of the world we need something to amuse us.
Ela tem outro nome!mimicat é nome artístico.
I will keep your reaction forever...
Love, love, love. Thank you so much!! 😄🥰 💙 From Portugal
Love Mimicat, it will go through ❤️
it's a bit unfair the way the semis worked out this year - all the best songs in one, all the bad ones in the second. probably Switzerland, Malta, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Latvia won't make it, while in the second you'll get qualifiers like Belgium, Poland and San Marino.
The artists have to sing live on ESC. I (born in Poland) doubt that Poland will make it to the grand final show, .Not with Blanca's live vocals
Winner vibes!
Come on JOSEPH (José ou Zé?), come to Liverpool!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
it will winn!
the song is about anxiety and how your heart plays with it
I think she will win, I have a feeling.
