Armored Core was a blip for anyone not even much interested in Mecha or somewhat inpenetrable for those not willing to put themselves through hellish difficulty. Then years go by, people start naturally getting good and wanting more, they look into Armored Core and suddenly? There's a want for another game after V and Verdict Day somewhat fell on their face and only kinda recovered respectively. After Elden Ring, then we got the first Armored Core game in 10 years and the fact it was even CONSIDERED at all? Was a big fucking thing. It winning Best Action Game? Yeah that's more than alot of us had hoped because remember: Alot of other games basically had the world in a chokehold for months and Armored Core was always NICHE. so it not getting a nomination for GOTY is sad but not SURPRISING.

Don’t know how that walking simulator won so many awards but Spider-Man 2 couldn’t win a single one. Just goes to show only the “highbrow” artsy games win at the game awards . Just like the Oscar’s
@@DC-Supreme You genuinely think Alan Wake is high brow artsy work... or that Oscars are historically won by films of the same nature??? I'm struggling to even know where to begin and what to tell you. There are other notable and important annual awards for them as there's nothing more commercial than the The Game Awards often filled with its kitsch nominees (=commercial, unchallenging works which thrive in familiarity.) The only exception in the history of TGA I can think of is Disco Elysium having been nominated and even winning. All's relative though. If you ever decide to widen your perspective and dig into the highly imaginative and whimsical niche works best to start with the old cinema, European, Japanese, Russian - whichever as long as it's not from Hollywood (even though many great works are from there as well.) Games aren't generally known for being high brow or exceptionally nuanced. Still you might have the best luck by volume playing old experimental NEC PC-98 games but those are all in Japanese.

It's the small things that makes bg3 stand out. If the slightest thing even like a kiss with a romance feels off or something isn't right or feels genuine enough they let the community know and in weeks Larian studios fixes it. Its the smallest things they update to improve the game experience overall. Bg3 is a marvel of design.
@@notgoodman6651, Larian delivers huge Patches, but never DLC's They've been pretty clear about it. Unless a huge change in the company policies, won't happen
BG3 is great RPG, the narrative is probably the weakest part of the game, which is just how good it is. In my opinion, FFXVI has a better narrative. And although I haven't played Alan Wake 2, I know the studio behind it can come up with some advance level narratives, that will put the most esoteric RPGs to shame. Just look at Control for example.
@@khinzaw77 Imo expansions should qualify for game of the year if remaster/remakes can. Expansions are sometimes bigger than regular sized games, and shadowbringers was nothing short of a masterpiece one of the best story's in gaming that I have had the pleasure of playing, and endwalker story was basically just more of shadowbringers so naturally it is really good to.
I haven't played Armored Core since the original PS1 days. I am knee deep in BG3, (not trying to rush it). By the time I am done FFVII Rebirth would be out which means I will either have to skip AC6 and AW2 until we have another bad gaming year.

As much as I love TOTK, I think that Baldur's Gate deserved the GOTY award. TOTK felt like a whole new world, with the most freedom a game can offer. But the thing is, TOTK was originally planned as a addition of BOTW. The 'newness' the game could give was still godly, but in this case, Baldur's Gate 3 opened a new perspective in turn based rpg. If BOTW wasn't out and TOTK came out, I certainly think that TOTK had a great chance, but that is not the case. Congrats to Baldur's Gate 3! Well deserved.

Only spiderMiD 2 super fanboy that will not accept bg 3 or totk win
Never heard of BG3, but I strongly believe it's deserved

Look, I feel bad for Bungie, but the fact Destiny 2 got nominated for anything shocks me.
For real. Bungie has dropped the ball hard with that game
Starfield was in there too... 🤨
nominated for community support right? everyone saw that and said naaaahhhh
@@BAYKON8R In my opinion, No Man's Sky should have won that. Constant free updates, Active community support.
I also am surprised they even got on the list to begin with. Community seems really fed up with the higher ups at bungie making terrible decisions. I feel really bad for the employees trying their best to develop and meet expectations for the game with both community feedback and their pleas most likely falling on deaf ears.

When you realize Tears of The Kingdom only won a single award and Spiderman 2 got nothing...
Rigged as always
Take BG3 out of the Game Awards and those games would have won A LOT. It was a truly great year for gamers 🎉
As it should for spiderman
Sounds pretty good really, Spider-Man 2 has nothing, yes good gameplay but that’s just about it, story content is straight trash compare to the last 2 entries, I thought totk would win, I voted for it but BG3 is also a very good game, I love both and to be honest I’m perfectly fine for the outcome of best game of the year, got no complaints this year, I’ll say 2023 got the best games this year in forever (don’t include Sony or Microsoft cuz I think they bombed this year compare to Nintendo and PC but that’s always been like that this whole generation so I’m not expecting anything from them anymore)
Because spiderman 2 was pretty ass.
Guess Baldur Gate 3 really did set a new expectation for the game industry. Those people saying it wouldn't set any expectations are scrambling to delete their tweets rn
it kinda wouldnt tho? like totk did a better job at setting expectations than it

Very happy about baldur's gate 3 getting so many awards. They deserved it and Bethesda did not.
what is wrong with bethseda? they made some of the most influential games ever.
@@mackquack7 You said it yourself, they "made", past tense, some of the most influential games ever. Skyrim had a gigantic impact on the gaming industry that very few other titles will ever come close to accomplishing, but that's all in the past at this point. They've missed the mark on every single title that they've put out since Skyrim, with Starfield being the most egregious example. I really, really wanted to like Starfield, but that game just feels like a spit in the face from Bethesda. Oblivion and Skyrim are some of my favorite games of all time, but any hope that I've had over the past 10 years for Bethesda to bounce back and make incredible games once more are now long gone after Starfield. I mean half the games nominated aren't actual indie games. But Baulders gate 3 was.

Yeah, Lies of P is my personal goty and imo the first souls like that reaches Fromsoft's level of quality.
Overall, I'd say the fact that didn't win any just goes to show how many bangers were released this year. I certainly loved Lies of P, and yet at the same time, I never seemed to disagree with the games that were picked over it. It's been a good year for games.

@@megilacuttyjones735 Fair. Least it didn't get gypped like Spiderman 2 was (I was kind of laughing when I realized that one)
Why are you happy with that? It’s competition was trash if anything the lack of GOTY nomination is proof it got snubbed
@@Jim-Bagel Lemme put it in a way you might understand: Armored Core was always somewhat niche. And before Fromsoft got their big ol' break with Dark Souls and the like?

Bro they should've gave it to Mario and Zelda as well. The two new installments are awesome

I dig Spanish and German films I always find them super interesting and well written
I haven’t played Baldur’s Gate 3 yet, but from what I’ve heard it has the most in-depth story in a game ever, and has a very active style of turned based combat. I love game like Fire Emblem and Persona, so I’m sure I’d love Baldur’s Gate 3 as well.
You should play it.I put on 195.7 hours on the game and every second wasted worth it.I stopped playing it for now so I can play other games too will go back to it when a new dlc comes out
It's the small things that makes bg3 stand out. If the slightest thing even like a kiss with a romance feels off or something isn't right or feels genuine enough they let the community know and in weeks Larian studios fixes it. Its the smallest things they update to improve the game experience overall. Bg3 is a marvel of design.
I don't like turn based combat and souls type so no
@@notgoodman6651, Larian delivers huge Patches, but never DLC's

BG3 is great RPG, the narrative is probably the weakest part of the game, which is just how good it is. In my opinion, FFXVI has a better narrative. And although I haven't played Alan Wake 2, I know the studio behind it can come up with some advance level narratives, that will put the most esoteric RPGs to shame. Just look at Control for example.
