This is still one of the best combo / situation videos, even more than a decade later. The pacing, the music syncing, and the variety of ideas without repeating too much are great.
I used to feel the first vid was more fun to watch. A couple years down the line, the first vid isn't all that impressive from a technical standpoint while this one holds up better as a TAS
Best self-made credits I've ever seen to date. Brilliant on your part, SDM. (Or whoever's it was to do the walking animations - things like that in credits always make them better.)
I have the answer for you, 11 years later. Yes it is possible. A fair number of the stuff in this video I have seen human beings accomplish. Not everything though.
I believe it's a technique called "Wobbling." It's done with the Ice Climbers. Unfortunately I don't know how to perform it, so look for a video about it.
I'm pretty sure, once TAS capacity is added to an GC emulator sometime in the future and improved, all the editing work would be non-existant and there would be a lot more TASes. It's not in the near future though.
He is performing Dr. Mario's Up+B cancel consistently. By doing some input in the first few frames of Doc's Up+B, you can prevent him from going into the air. You can find the specifics on Smashboards.
@ZxWAKAxZ Brawl has several key components that make it fun, just as Melee has several unique components that make it fun. While it is true that Melee is more playable in terms of the competitive scene, that doesn't automatically mean that Brawl sucks overall; it is merely inferior in the competitive sense, in the eyes of those who grew up playing Melee competitively (myself included).
It's not fox's angle and timing that keeps luigi in the combo. luigi is doing something called "smashed directional influence" with the help of Action Replay in order to stay in the combo. Fox is just sitting there shining really fast (which is still pretty hard to do without Action Replay)
a super wave dash is a technical engine glitch in ssbm you do it by using samus only and do a bomb drop when you touch down from it tap LEFT then RIGHT on the joystick withing 19 miliseconds I have used AR and calculated what it takes without it. It will rocket you across the screen. You can also go right left going left right makes you go right and vise versa
Its not just super wave dashes, its also daughter (1/4 a super) and rocket dashes (4 daughter + 1 super), the rocket dash can only be done with action replay i believe, the song is on ocremix, its a megaman 2 song remix
Yeah, Hradian is right; this came before the last tier war. Btw, did they ever finish that? Anyway, how do you do the 6x + SWD? You know, the one where you SWD back and forth, or off platforms (perhaps it has a different name?)? I know it's practically impossible to do, but I just want to know what the motions would be.
You can do this stuff without using an AR, but you obviously need VERY quick hands. SDM used AR for slowing down the frames to make it easier to do these stunts.
Imagine someone who has never played any Smash game in their life or even heard of Smash. Then they see this video and say 'This looks so cool! I bet I can do it!' then they play Melee and learn to do this in no time.
@ThePi314Man drop a bomb, hit left then right a frame before u hit the ground. i cant do it just dunno the specifics, basically hit left then right quickly as u can just before u hit the ground
from 1:37 to 1:41 it reminds me of DBZ and by the way how do u do the thing wit samus' grapple beam at 3:28 cause that never works wit me serioulsy no matter wat i do
could somebaody PM me if they can do this send me a copy of dolphin (or dolwin, whichever can TAS) along with the SSBM iso. would that be possible? please respond
As usual, I really like your work, SDM, but this may have well been an AR video of SWDing. The fox shine laser combo was awesome, all the DI stuff was great, but just too much SWD. Must've run out of ideas :-/. I still liked it a lot though, and hope to see another AR vid in the future :)
To everyone wondering: All this stuff was capable because he used Action Replay to slow the game down so that everything was occuring one frame at a time, then sped vid up to create this (smashbro's wiki confirms this using first vid), it is physically impossible for a persons hands to move fast enough to do nearly, if not every, move done in this video. ...I would LOVE to see how the game would change if people actually COULD do this though
Most of this stuff is totally impractical without the Action Replay, it require by-frame (to 1/60th of a second) precision in many cases; the theory however is explained in the link that's in the video description.
That's because (as I'm sure you know) SuperDoodleMan slowed down the speed, then sped it back up. Theoretically if you slow down the game speed to 1/4, your hand speed (in-game) is x4 faster. When we do stationary WSs in real-time, it's slow because we can't get our thumbs back to the B button for the shine after we hit X/Y button for the SH. We can shine the instant the WD starts, but it's impossible to shine the frame after the WS animation begins.
thats some crazy shit right there superdoodleman your better with ars than masterlinkx and thats very good p.s whats the code for and deos the ar work with wii
This is still one of the best combo / situation videos, even more than a decade later. The pacing, the music syncing, and the variety of ideas without repeating too much are great.
OMG!!! ITS TAS BEFORE THE DOLPHIN EMULATOR!!!! Nice video! :)
Good Ol' Action Replay, ahaha
How
I used to feel the first vid was more fun to watch. A couple years down the line, the first vid isn't all that impressive from a technical standpoint while this one holds up better as a TAS
This video was so far ahead of its time
Best self-made credits I've ever seen to date. Brilliant on your part, SDM. (Or whoever's it was to do the walking animations - things like that in credits always make them better.)
how does Samus super wave dash in multiple directions at once?
2:19 and so wobbling was born
2023 and still a banger video!
I saw this in my recommended videos, said 11 years ago... I remember watching this when it first came out... Now I feel old.
Question: Is the Samus SWD possible without using AR?
I have the answer for you, 11 years later. Yes it is possible. A fair number of the stuff in this video I have seen human beings accomplish. Not everything though.
Man I feel old I remember when this first came out
Same! It was truly a different time for sure.
This is actually my first time watching this video since I was around 9 years old. I turn 26 on Saturday.
I believe it's a technique called "Wobbling." It's done with the Ice Climbers. Unfortunately I don't know how to perform it, so look for a video about it.
0:42 I recall Zhu actually DD'd that fast.
Wait, you mean that *wasn't* Zhu?
What's DD?
***** Dash dance.
@PKMN416 Lol, check the description. The link to the thread where everything is explained including music is there. But I believe it's Beamsabre Beat.
I'm pretty sure, once TAS capacity is added to an GC emulator sometime in the future and improved, all the editing work would be non-existant and there would be a lot more TASes. It's not in the near future though.
mugg1991 thats become true 9 yrs later :D
Amazing Samus work. Seven back to back needles in the air with Sheik, wow. And the turnip juggling.
Amazing work, SDM and co. Simply amazing.
He is performing Dr. Mario's Up+B cancel consistently. By doing some input in the first few frames of Doc's Up+B, you can prevent him from going into the air. You can find the specifics on Smashboards.
Memories of this channel!
@darkgranddragon its called "beamsabre beat" by darkesword...you can find it on OCRemix
This is awesome. The Samus stuff is crazy. SDM is the best AR person ever :]
Dude, Superdoodleman is renowned across youtube for his super smash bros skills with AR. Don't dis, he's a legend.
@ZxWAKAxZ Brawl has several key components that make it fun, just as Melee has several unique components that make it fun. @zevex747 Action Replay is required to play on that map.

I love this video, great work, whats the song from? it some of it sounded like a remix of Megaman X
Its not just super wave dashes, its also daughter (1/4 a super) and rocket dashes (4 daughter + 1 super), the rocket dash can only be done with action replay i believe, the song is on ocremix, its a megaman 2 song remix

Wow... greatest AR video right here.
What Rockman X song was playing during the gameplay footage? Zero's theme?
You can do this stuff without using an AR, but you obviously need VERY quick hands. SDM used AR for slowing down the frames to make it easier to do these stunts.
Whoa...Sandbag's gonna go flying for a LONG, long time!
Extremely awesome vid!!
@deaththekid555 it's an oc remix called beamsabre beat i believe
@Meanz56530 And what does the scouter level says about his power level ?!?!?!?
Amazing Samus and Fox work! Thanks for posting!
how did you SWD in the air? I thought you could only do that on the ground...
What's going on with Luigi at 1:36?
It's a glitch only ICs can do where the enemy gets stuck in a frozen animation till they are ko'd.
Well, I'll wait. His perfect control videos are awesome.
That bit was crazily hot. The whole video is too cool to be true.
is phanna that samus at 3:13?
the music from what video game is? (ending/credits)
@Rahnzakh its really hard to do this in brawl with being slower and all
besides there is no action replay for wii
Imagine someone who has never played any Smash game in their life or even heard of Smash. Then they see this video and say 'This looks so cool! I bet I can do it!' then they play Melee and learn to do this in no time.
@ThePi314Man drop a bomb, hit left then right a frame before u hit the ground. i cant do it just dunno the specifics, basically hit left then right quickly as u can just before u hit the ground
was the music from a megaman X game???
im not sure wat the name of the song is but i think its a megaman song
what's the weird gray map that Samus does super wavedash on in some parts of this video? How can I get that map?
Could you make something explaining how these work?
is it possible to rocket dash without AR?
(if so then how)
from 1:37 to 1:41 it reminds me of DBZ and by the way how do u do the thing wit samus' grapple beam at 3:28 cause that never works wit me serioulsy no matter wat i do
Was the dialog at roughly two minutes from Tales of Symphonia
can you teach me to do this without action replay?

How do you (plural) the "X6 - real SWD" something?
Something, it is working frame through frame, impossible without Action Replay. :(
pls correct me
I've always wondered how to do that Samus down-b wavedash...

send me a copy of dolphin (or dolwin, whichever can TAS) along with the SSBM iso. would that be possible? please respond

zero song?

@ieatatsonic It's in the description.

I said the same thing. But Wii AR won't be available until August. :(
how do u do the morph ball wave dash with Samus? i know it's on the edge of a platform, but what exactly do you do?
i wanna know the name of the song please
It's amazing how all this actually can be done in Melee...
can u please show a tutorial on samus WSD?
what si the songs name oh and amazing my favorite ssbm video
i read the description lol, i thought you were a god at this before that XD
That's because (as I'm sure you know) SuperDoodleMan slowed down the speed, then sped it back up. Theoretically if you slow down the game speed to 1/4, your hand speed (in-game) is x4 faster. I'm lost for words.. I wish I could play like this. The speed ups with Samus by using those bombs was cool.
the luigi being frozen thing was a result of the glich cause by the ICs. I think it's called the woobles?

@da11235813 How much of that was done in real matches 5 years ago? None. Even a decade after its release the game is constantly evolving.
