  • Chad provides an introductory lesson on Solutions. The lesson begins with a description of the 3 steps of the solution process and the energetics involved. This is then used to explain why some substances mix while others do not. The principle of "like dissolves like" is introduced and a variety of solutions vocabulary terms are defined including miscible, immiscible, saturated, unsaturated, supersaturated, and colloids. The lesson concludes with a discussion on some of the factors affecting the solubility of gases and ionic solids. This includes the affect of temperature and pressure on the solubility of gases including Henry's Law, and the affect of temperature on the solubility of ionic compounds in water.
I've embedded this playlist as a course on my website with all the lessons organized by chapter in a collapsible menu and much of the content from the study guide included on the page. Check this lesson out at www.chadsprep.com/chads-gener...

This ia a very late comment, but it seems that chapter 12 isn't viewable. I'm an ASU student taking CHM114 currently, so was just wondering where I would be able to find it. I see that 11.3 is the first half of chapter 12 however.

hi prof chad, in the henry's law example, where did the .21atm come from in the equation? thanks alot.

My apology Andy as it was provided in the question I read from the printed study guide. I've tried to be good about putting them upon the screen during editing but dropped the ball on this one. The entire questions reads as follows:
What is the solubility of O2 in water at 25oC at sea level? (PO2 = 0.21atm, KH = 1.3x10-3M/atm at 25oC)
Hope this helps and Happy Studying!

when you say that there 2.73*10^-4 moles, what that mean... like in how many liters of water? or volium of water?
    thanks you are the man

It is solubility per atm - i.e at 1atm pressure, I go into this in a little more detail around 13:30 :)
