There's nothing wrong with that at all, and it's awesome to recognize. I was simply trained at a time when my predecessors (my trainers) flew airliners that didn't have VNAV capabilities...The aircraft I flew at that time did have a limited VNAV function, but required close attention, and it was expected of us to think through the scenario as opposed to relying on inputting data into the FMS.
I have flown your tutorial at least 20 times, have my pro line 21 management skills at a much higher level thanks to you. ! I tried to take your instruction, and apply it to another airport pairing, KLAS-KBURi in the CJ4, this requires threading through a mountain valley , while descending to BUR. (Very cool in VR). The only thing I messed up is the turn to final, it looked like a nasty 150 degree turn on the nav display. This was on the ILS Y For Rwy 8, the turn was leading to SILEX . I would really like to see you do this for one of your fine tutorials on your channel KLAS-KBUR , ILS Y rwy 8 . Your other subscribers will dig this too! Dan, your greatest fan.
Flown this excellent tutorial 5 times, and I’m still not descending to the 5000’ WAYMAR , fast enough. Any more advice on VNAV? I find myself using VS, then re-engaging VNAV, to meet the 5000’ waymar , is that somewhat realistic?
Thanks for the reply, if you begin the descent late you may struggle to reach the altitude and will have to manipulate the flight guidance control panel to ensure you cross the waypoint at the correct altitude. I would verify the descent path on the MFD (Green text - it's explained at the 6:00 mark). You'll want to confirm your descent angle is between 3.0-3.5 degrees. Also, be cognizant of that the VNAV is armed prior to reaching the TOD (Top of Descent). If you're already passed the TOD, the magenta diamond (or snowflake as it's often called) will be below the aircraft horizon attitude on the PFD, at which point you'll need to descend faster to catch up with the path. Also, at any point if you reference the MFD it should provide information on the necessary descent rate (in Feet per Minute) necessary to cross the waypoint at the assigned altitude (as it's entered in the FMS). Let me know if that helps!
@@Flynavyj Will keep practicing and learning the concepts. Your tutorials add an incredible dimension, for us flight simmers, who prefer to fly realistically. !
When you landed here, it appeared the nose was pointing down, about the last 100 feet, before hitting the asphalt. Sort of a “flat “ landing. Not a lot of flare , when landing a citation?
there is a round out, and a flare, but it’s not incredibly pronounced. If you follow the descent rate in, we’re approximately nose level w the horizon, on speed (generally close) which is providing a 500 fpm descent. There’s a slight round out to slow the descent rate and a further increase in pitch attitude in the flare. In total, the pitch attitude only changed by ~5* between approach, round out, flare.
I just cant seem to extend the centerline at Loreta properly, all I ever get is a curved FMC line, (magenta) . Not the straight extended center line that you showed . After the ILS transition on the display, my green needles are never straight up and down like yours , any advice? Approach is horrendous! Any advice? Besides not becoming a real world pilot?
Are you inputting the inbound course for the ILS (021 Degrees) after clicking DIR -> LRETA? So, when you're inbound and on a HDG for an intercept to the final approach course. Your actions should be DIR -> LRETA then 021 -> R6 (Lowest Right Button) then EXEC. Watch the video at about 22:20 and it goes through those steps. That'll bring the magenta course around to match the ghost needles. If your green needles aren't matching after you get a transfer, it makes me think the FMS didn't auto sequence properly. This would make me wonder if the approach was loaded into the FMS correctly. Make sure when setting up the FMS that you select the approach and arrival from the DEP/ARR page and that it's selected for the Arrival airport. There are ways that the FMS can be disjointed from the navigation system, but i don't think the MSFS FMS goes that deep into the systems for it to be possible...but i'll check.
I’m getting really close , finally got to see the centerline extend, (very late tho)..that was after fumbling around with where to put the “021”. You first put it In the scratchpad, then enter it via 6R ? “INTCPT course” ? Still a bit in the fog.
So lucidly explained! ♥
Greatly appreciated! Hope it helps!!!
I should be exercising those formulas more , I’m to dependent on VNAV itself. My best guess.
