I thought it would be a complicated process since I don't know anything about these manual hubs. Might come in handy as I hear the automatic hubs have a tendency of acting up or failing. I am thinking of getting this car in the future. Good to know about this.
Done!!!! Thankyou so much, works a treat :) Green light kept flashing when I had finished and I thought it hadn't fixed it, but 1min later stopped, solid light and all working as intended - maybe it needs to build up vacuum for a min to get positive reading ... Thanks again
I solved the problem of the 4x4 functioning by mounting the tyrex manual hubs instead of the automatic hubs that always gave problems in my 2001 Suzuki Jimny 4x4 with m13a motor and to replace the automatic hubs and overhaul the vacuum system for inserting the 4x4 I would have spent many euros between spare parts and labor! (greetings from Florence Italy!)
Instead of running 2 bolts in the lines and cable tying them closed, its easier to just do the u-bend on both sides and just kink the u-bend which seals it. Personally i think its easier.
Buen dato . gracias
What are the benefits to changing to manual hubs? As in my mind it just means I'm getting out the car to engage something I already have a lever for 🤷🏻♂️
The manual locking hubs are more robust according to some people. Problems seem to revolve around the vacuum system more so than the hub locker. A failure on one hub lock makes the front diff completely inoperable, since traction control for the front axle will no longer work and power will always go to the unlocked axle. Manual hubs are really not much of a problem in practice. You can leave them locked while you are going in and out of 4WD and until you will no longer require 4WD for an extended period - ie remember to unlock the hubs when you hit the bitumen again. The only problems with forgetting and leaving the hubs locked is increased noise, wear, and fuel consumption. It won't affect the drivability in 2WD very much. So, vacuum systems are another system to maintain, however proper maintenance can avoid almost all problems. Vacuum hubs should be serviced every two years whether or not you use them and more frequently if they see a lot of hard work or fording. That includes greasing, checking vacuum lines etc. They are pretty easy to work on, but I suspect it is one area that a lot of DIYers forget about. If you are planning a trip and haven't had the front hubs serviced in a while, it should probably be a high priority item.
Hi I'm just about to do mine. It's a 2005 vvt push button model. If I do as you've done with the lines is that all I need to do? I don't need to short any wires or anything? Thank you 😁
No other mods needed mate. It’s was factory stock at the start of the video. You can also grind the lip off the nut and not run the spacers if you wish. Spacers are easier though 😁
It doesn’t change anything performance wise. The only reason people to this mod is because the stock automatic hubs are crap and they fail. Manual hubs are annoying but more reliable

Awesome mate. Very helpful about to do mine in a week or 2.
Cheers mate. Good luck!
So easy to do and works great
There is a Brazilian type made named AVM or is it excellent

Either works 🙂

What type of grease do you recommend? I’ve just received new set of freewheeling hubs and was going to put them on soon.
Hey mate,
I put high temp wheel bearing grease in mine.
Toyota’s have the same in there hubs.
Do you have to block the vac lines off or is that to just stop the 4x4 light flashing
Would these still work with wheel spacers?
How many mm is that spacer?
what brand you use and where you buy it

awesome! are they compatible with jimny japan jb23 ?
Will it work on Jimny 5door 2023 model?
Do you need the spacer rings I bought some but they didn’t come with any it’s for a 2002 model? Thanks.
Yeah I bought mine too. They’re not factory. You need them to fit the aftermarket hubs
@@jimnythings2410 So if I buy the manual locking hubs I need to buy spacers too? Ive not seen this mentioned before , thanks in advance
@@MoontownMoss Hi Mate, just seeing if you ended up sorting this out? did you end up needing spacers? cheers.
The light not working and not flashing what is the problem??!

I don´t understand, maybe because I´m new to the game.
Why would you change from auto to manual??
The standard vacuum hub fail regularly. Manual hubs are just more reliable
@@jimnythings2410 Thanks for the explanation.

Yep that’s all you need to do. Mine is also push bottom 👍
Is applicable on the standard front axel? So no other mods are needed? Tx

Were did u buy these hubs
EBay
hi mate what did you use on the paper
Just grey RTV silicone mate
@@jimnythings2410 cheers mate fitting mine at weekend
Which Is the brand of your new hubs?
They’re just eBay ones. 26 spline
How have they lasted still ok ?
Yep it’s done cape York and Simpson desert and still fine
Do locking hubs lock the differential for the wheels to spin at the same speed?
The hubs lock the hub to the axles
@@jimnythings2410 and how does that improve the effectiveness over normal 4H or 4L kinda new to this
