As we have our sights on Easter, to celebrate the Resurrection, in today’s fascinating episode, I sit down again with Fr. Robert Spitzer, S.J., physicist, Catholic priest, and President of the Magis Center to discuss some of the evidence and science of the Resurrection. We discuss 3 different ways to prove the resurrection of Jesus, including the Shroud of Turin, of which many believe to be the burial cloth of Jesus. Fr. Spitzer debunks many of the misconceptions of the Shroud of Turin including a break down of the 1988 carbon dating mishap. We discuss how the cloth’s image shows the wounds of Christ in great detail, and how the image on the cloth is a result of a powerful momentary flash of radiation.

Jesus suffered so greatly for us not only to show his burning love for each and every one of us, but also so that we know how serious our sins truly are.
Sincere question why does Jesus have to suffer why can God just forgive? I genuinely want to know the answer
@fadumonor868
My response would be, He is a just God. A just God would not let a crime go unpunished.
We committed the crime, but Jesus paid our dept. He bore our sin including your sin and took our punishment upon himself.
Not because He had to, but because, "God so loved the world He gave His only son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life ~John 3:16

@@fadumonor868in the Old Testament the Jewish people sacrificed an unblemished lamb to be freed from slavery in Egypt, fast forward Jesus takes the place of the sacrificial unblemished lamb because He is perfect. There is so much meaning to his death and resurrection that parallels with the Old Testament because he fulfills everything that happened and was said to happen.

one of the best interviews ive seen so far about the Shroud
Thank you for this interview, God is good.
The fact that the shroud can not be replicated with our current technology is mind blowing. I believe the shroud was especially targeted toward this generation that relies on hard evidence-yet when the evidence is provided, many dismiss it. Thank you Lord

About fifteen years ago I attended a prayer meeting at a Catholic Church in South Wales, UK. At the end of the prayer’s a lady present, asked us if we could see anything on the Altar? We all looked, and to our astonishment the face of the Shroud of Turin appeared around the Crucifix on the Altar. The wonderful apparition will always be etched in my mind. Greetings from Wales. IESU BENDIGEDIG! (Wonderful Jesus)
I saw the series of documentaries combined into one of the Shroud of Turin, and I cried so hard on how Jesus suffered so much to redeem us from our sinfulness. Another thing , Jesus proved to us how great the love of our Father for us that He sent His only begotten Son to save us from the fires of hell. Thank You Father; Thank You Jesus and Thank You my dear Holy Spirit.
Thank you God for sacrificing your only son so we can have eternal life and we can have forgiveness. God, I pray you shine your light upon this world and show them the truth to everlasting life with you!
Is Jesus the son of God or God? What is the name of the son?
@@fadumonor868, the eternal Word of God (Yehovah operating in the physical realm) manifested in flesh as son of God because He represented Adam who was created to be son of God and sinned from that position. He came to restore what Adam has lost, then returned to where He came from, His throne.
His name in Hebrew is Yehoshua meaning Yehovah saves, exactly what He promised to do.

Christianity by its very nature imbues its followers with deep paranoid guilt, feelings of guilt every time they even think a bad thought, guilty when they do anything that could be construed as wrong, guilty feelings every hour of every day and a need to confess and beg forgiveness from the invisible guy in the sky..
The constant guilt and worry has a negative effect on their well being, they age more quickly than others, the worry lines and creases come at a much earlier age, they feel an obligation to convince everyone that unless they convert, a fiery pit awaits them. Underneath all this there is also a spark of doubt, "What if this bible stuff isn’t really true" when these feelings come upon them the guilt sends them straight back to begging the SkyDaddy to forgive them for doubting, they then worry that demons have infested their minds and given them those thoughts, straight away they need to implore the invisible guy in the sky to purge them of those demons.
All this is a worry and whenever they look into a mirror there appears to be a new wrinkle, the circle continues and as they get older they become more rabid, insanity starts to set in, most older Christians when they pass on are in the grip of total insanity. If you convert to Christianity at a young age this is your future.
You are a fool.
It sickens me that you buy into all this God crap. What makes you think you are going to heaven, "Hee knows what you have done, and thought. The facts are that you will go into the ground or up in smoke, your choice, the end.

I would like to beg Fr Spitzer to write a book (not just a chapter) on the shroud of Turin. The world needs to know. Once you learn about all this evidence, there is just no other way than to acknowledge that Jesus Christ is risen and is truly Lord!!!! Happy Easter to everyone:).
Not to suggest that you do not, as I do not know you of course, but generally speaking, we Christians - and especially we Catholics - must be the voice of our God, here on earth. Speak this Truth, boldly and lovingly, to everyone you encounter. The spirits of darkness, as you likely know, have over-shadowed generations with spiritual blindness. They will not desire, nor even think to find such knowledge and even if it is available to them and they somehow become aware on their own. Please receive this in the Spirit of our Lord. Blessings to all.

How my heart is breaking listening to this, what torture he went through 😢💔 I'm so sorry Jesus, I love you and thank you for dying on the cross for me 😢
He was God & he knew death was temporary so that gave him comfort. Sometimes you'd think Jesus was the only person who was scourged then crucified. Thousands of Jews suffered the same fate & thousands more across the Roman Empire, from Israel to England the Romans crucified without remorse or mercy. I often spare a thought for those poor people.🙏

Passover wasn’t approaching, Jesus already celebrated the Passover the night before He died. But the sabbath was approaching and it was the week of the feast of unleavened bread. They wanted to get it done so they could celebrate the sabbath of that ‘Passover week’. I know this because I googled it lol.

@@thomasjorge4734.. oh come on..the Vatican had it tested in 3 separate labs and it is NOT the shroud of Jesus …
The Gospel mentions continually how people against Christ worked to do everything possible to discredit Jesus because they had vested political and financial interests in ensuring the changes that Jesus Christ instituted were discredited regardless of what is true and right. Men do NOT want to be held accountable for their evil and do not want anything to interfere with their ego. Throughout history, men have suppressed the truth that is inconvenient to their pockets and lustful passions.
The false carbon dating provides an 'out' for those who don't want to believe. I've heard it said that, even in this unique circumstance, God keeps the door of Free Will open. The Shroud is a profound relic. It has brought many to belief and deepened the belief of so many others. But for those who are not yet ready, or who refuse to believe, there's an 'out'. ✝️
@nicolamustard7232 lol… are we to build our faith on relics or on the Word of the Living God? The carbon dating science is solid and established and there is no mistake in it. The very reason we have no certainty of the birthday, we have none of the Clothes Jesus wore etc is because He would not want us to believe in relics. Faith should be in the evidence of His majesty and greatness He gave in the Bible. This is Catholicism’s weakness .. tradition and the focus on relics and mysticism instead of the Bible. Jesus did not say to disciples when He sent them out to do mission trips..” show them relics so they can believe” He said .. “preach. To them the Word..the Gospel .. teach them what I have taught u” … That is God’s way of saving the lost.

If Jesus died so quickly due to the great loss of blood, why wasn't he confused or unconscious? From a medical point of view, I have read that if you lose a lot of blood, you become confused, dizzy and eventually lose consciousness. I believe that he chose his own point of death and that he did not die so quickly out of weakness. Because Jesus was fully conscious until the last second and still spoke.
You are right, He decided when it was finished.

Independent tests in 1988 at the University of Oxford, the University of Arizona, and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology concluded with 95% confidence that the shroud material dated to 1260-1390 AD. This 13th- to 14th-century dating is much too recent for the shroud to have been associated with Jesus. The need to believe will overcome every obstacle.
This has been proven to be false. What’s in this video is only a sliver of all the evidence. Your need to disprove the reality of Christ’s resurrection is an impediment to you looking into all the other evidence and finding out you’re wrong. What are you afraid of?

Hello, does anyone have the answer to what I’ve been wondering? I think the shroud of Turin is a very intricate and complex piece, but if the image of Jesus of Nazareth was imprinted onto the cloth while it was wrapped around, wouldn’t it look a bit like a UV map of a human where it shows the sides of his face as well as the front? I don’t think this is a fake, as it would’ve easily been debunked, but I still have my doubts.
All we have to do is read the Bible to prove the life death and resurrection of Jesus. The whole book tells He's coming and what He's going to do, then it happened and then it explains how He comes again.
But the whole way to life with the Lord is based on faith, that's all God wants which is why He gives us free will. God vs satan the big picture, who are each of us have our Choice.
Christ is King. I don't care if it offends the Jews.

We show our love for this shroud so why is it so difficult for some people to love thy neighbour this is more pleasing to god than out pourings of grief over a shroud that yet as not been officially been authenticated,
Exactly, finally a sensible comment, thank you Sir. It's ridiculous, some of these people are so invested in a unproven relic, that they've lost sight of their supposed faith. Proverbs 13.10 "Pride leads to conflict & quarreling." Reading the comments you'd start to believe that Jesus was the only Jew who the Romans scourged & crucified. I forget if it was Vespasian or his son but they crucified 200 Jews per day outside of Jerusalem & that went on for weeks. Apparently the Romans got so bored they were nailing them up in different shapes & positions, then simply leaving them like that. Even if they date the shroud to the 1st Century it literally could be anyone on that shroud.
Was our Lord on the cross for 3 hours or 6 hours? I’ve heard both from credible sources.
3 hours, from 12 PM, till Our Lord's death at 3 PM. Also, why we pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3 PM daily and why satan inverted that time and made his time at 3 AM.
@@rickruggiero2403 thanks!!
His death at 3:00 in the afternoon is clear. As far as the start of His Crucifixion though, all of the Gospels agree that He suffered the Crucifixion during the third hour Jewish time (Mark 15:25), which would’ve been about 9:00 a.m., until His death at the ninth hour Jewish time, which would’ve been 3:00 p.m. However, the Gospel of John testifies that around the "sixth hour" Jesus had yet to be crucified and had just began to carry His Cross (John 19:14). In his Gospel, St. John uses Roman time to my knowledge, which is where the confusion lies. If you consider that St. John was referring to Roman time, all four Gospels agree that it took place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sadly our Lord suffered the Crucifixion for 6 hours, not 3.
Same here...from many that present themselves as scholars. No ill intention, I'm sure, but one would think there might be consensus by now. For Christs sake, I hope it was 3.

How is his face on it when his head was wrapped in a totally seperate cloth??
The head cloth of Jesus was put on him after he died but was still on the cross. After he was brought into the tomb it was removed, folded, and set aside. He was not wearing it when he was resurrected.
I believe they used the face cloth to cover his eyes while bringing him to the tomb. Then removed it so they could put ointments on him. They had very little time to do this, it was becoming dark. Therefore, only the shroud was around him when he was resurrected. Later, the face cloth was found by itself, and folded.

Why the radioactive carbon dating test followed STURP by 10 years instead of being a part of STURP? I'm assuming the technology wasn't mature enough in 1978?
It’s possible the radiocarbon dating was correct, but he was right. If it’s fake, it was masterfully done. If the results are wrong it’s either because of the technology or the sampling. They initially wanted to sample 8 pieces from around the cloth I believe, but they only sampled a corner. It should certainly be retested.
@@jackricky5453 "f it’s fake, it was masterfully done."
It is not a fake, medieval artists did not have the technology to impart the image on linen fibers. We don't even know how to do this using the most up to date technology, and nobody managed to recreate this image.
However, your response didn't address my question.
@@jackricky5453I'm going off memory here so grain of salt and all that but I seem to recall that the sampling was not only done incorrectly, they probably did it on purpose. It took 34 years and a FOIA request to get the raw data, which showed only one sample was taken and cut into three pieces. These pieces were sent to three universities which, incidentally, were well financially compensated to the tune of over a million pounds each either shortly before of right after the test was done. Makes me wonder, why try so hard to hide all this? And why spend all that money on something that is supposedly fake?

Well actually the early christian greek scriptures use the word stuaros , which is an uprignt execution steak i have no doubts this was the method used for jesus execution , the writs crossed above the head and the nail driven through , wikapedia also states that cross worship or tamuz the pagan 3 tryne god predates christianity , apostate christians allowed pagans into their churches who worshiped the cross , to increase their numbers ,they eventually replaced the stauros with the cross.😮
Wrong. They can easily tell by how the blood from this wrist wounds that dried at an angle on his arms that he died on a cross. Had he been on a pole the blood would have run straight down his arms.
Firstly nobody worship the cross, secondly Jesus said take up ur cross and follow me.
@@beverlyhurd8556 So why would they use the word stuaros in early greek translations which is a steak and not a cross. You can check it in wikapedia , the roman catholic church know how jesus died, and they have known for a long time, they have copies in the vatican museum of some early greek and latin translations, they dont deny the use of stauros I put my trust in gods word not in what was added in later centuries, as for shrould reserchers saying the blood flow goes down round the arms i havnt seen any evidence of that , you have to remember some of them work for the church so they would say that, you can see the lash wounds on his arms but it looks like he was cleaned up when he was in the tomb ., would you put a body in a cloth a leave his arms smothered in blood, you have to remember they loved jesus ,they respected him, he was a very brave man , and he knew that every blow that was inflicted on him he knew it was worth it, we got him to thank.
Why didntvGod give Jesus a fatal heart attack while carrieing the cross? Scourging etc sufficed to redeem the world. What warrants the added horror of crucifixion?
He had to shed his blood for our sins. Not just die, but also pour out his blood. In the old testament they sacrificed animals for temporary remission of sins. They poured the blood on the altar and the blood is what cleanses sins away. Then Jesus shed His blood as an ultimate sacrifice. Once and for all.

As is known, many theologians do not believe in the resurrection of Jesus. According to them, it would be an inner experience. However, according to the Acts of the Apostles and the letters of Saint Paul, the Resurrection of Jesus is the indispensable requirement to receive Baptism and be saved. These theologians do not have the faith that is necessary to be saved, they are in extreme danger of being damned. They have two solutions, both go through humility, which is the problem. Say to God: I want to believe in the resurrection of your Son Jesus, but I can't. Make me safe, as if I believed. The other is to turn to the Shroud and mentally see the miracle witnessed by John, Peter, Joseph of Arimathea, Mary Magdalene, and even Mary, Mother of Jesus. They were privileged, they believed in the resurrection of Jesus thanks to that visible miracle. The Holy sheet with the "photos" of Jesus and the head shroud suspended in the air. The other Christian faithful would believe because of the preaching and the action of the Holy Spirit, but all had to believe in the resurrection of Jesus as a "sine qua non" condition. Now in the 21st century, the miracle is offered to us again because the book picks up the pieces of the puzzle that Saint John left us and puts them in their place and thus the scene that they saw twenty centuries later appears drawn, since Saint John was not explicit for various reasons. His community knew how to read between the lines what he was explaining because they knew the story well enough. It is about the book SAINT JOHN THE EVANGELIST "SAW AND BELIEVED" AND WE TOO!
That so few of the clergy know anything about the Shroud, this after 40 years of scientific research, borders on the pathetic. It is one of the numerous reasons I had to leave the church.
Glad to tell u it is not the church that save us, Jesus do.
which church?
I believe the shroud is the crucifixion of Jesus, because how else does that outline exist?
this obsession with the shroud is pointless, either you believe Jesus was crucified and rose from the dead or you do not, the proof of both is the gift of the Holy Spirit , every thing else is speculation . I do not put my trust in man but in the Lord, If you need to believe in a rag or a cup then your faith is weak.
The discovery of the Shroud, is a good thing. It will either make you a believer, or you won't. God uses all the tools he does to help bring his children home. So if someone wants to believe in the Shourd, and it helps with their faith, that is for God, not against him. It's not the shroud that makes me believe, its the shroud that reminds me of his death he endured for us. Nothing can penetrate my faith. But seeing the shroud and knowing details of what he went through, brings me even closer. So the Shroud of Turin is a good thing. Thank you God
Isaiah 53:1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
Isaiah 53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Isaiah 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
Isaiah 53:8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
Isaiah 53:9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
Isaiah 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
Isaiah 53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
Isaiah 53:12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
It is the Bible that describes the arrest, sanhedran, convicted by Pilate, Crucified, Died, Resurrected and Ascension to Heaven. All of this is in the Gospels. There's no need for scientific evidence. Just read your Bible from Genesis to Revelation, believe it, enjoy it and get comfort from it.
I always believed that the Shroud of Turin is the actual picture of Jesus of Nazaret. Even before scientists did testing on it, I knew in my heart that the shroud covered Jesus' body. The Bible and the shroud confirm it.
Isn't the shroud a fake?
Not hardly. It was *proven* by many dozens of doctors, scientists, archeologists, and other highly trained researchers and *tens of thousands of hours* of examinations that the Shroud most definitely wrapped the body of a severely beaten, scourged and crucified man that was wearing a crown or cap of thorns when he died. Very few people out there, other than atheists, are quite dumb enough to believe that this was someone other than Jesus Christ.

@@AlbertHess-xy7ky. Put your trust in what the Bible says concerning Jesus’s resurrection. A cloth cannot save you.
He endured all of this for us. We are the sinners not him. This torture is justly ours. How great is his love!
Crucifixion of somebody, who looks a lot older than 33.
As a great number of us know, after Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus took Jesus to the tomb they spent what little time they had before Sabbath forced them to stop cleaning his body. As the image on the Shroud _clearly shows_, he was horribly beaten, savagely scourged, had a cap of thorns smashed down on this head then he was crucified until dead. Patches of his beard were yanked out. How can anyone be dumb enough to think that this is not Jesus??
@@beverlyhurd8556 Was Jesus covered in iron oxide? Because how else could his body have made a rust dye image on the cloth? And yes, iron oxide has been identified on the shroud, by more than one investigator. They thought is was from red ochre pigment but maybe it was just plain old rust. I don't know exactly how it was done but apparently it was, because human bodies do not make rust dyed images on cotton, linen or hemp fabric.
@@Metallographer_1 Huh? What "rust dye image"? There is no dye on the image on the Shroud. Did somebody tell you that there was? You sound quite confused.
@@beverlyhurd8556 It's just called "rust dyeing", it's not actually a dye. Why don't you go look at a few pages on the subject and see if it looks anything like the shroud.
@@Metallographer_1 I feel _pretty sure_ that had there been any 'rust dyeing" on the shroud it would have been found by one of the scores of scientists and other experts during their 10s of thousands of hours of examination.
I believe everything I read in the bible about Jesus. Jesus was dead for 3 days, what caused the marks on the turin if it was just 3 days. The turin is probably for someone else or a fake.
The image of Jesus got on the shroud when he was resurrected. How it was done has not been 100% proven, however.
It's real. It's Jesus.
Impossible to fake the new studies show.
No one could explain untill today how to reproduce this... The energy that marked the shroud was huge and we can assume it was the result of His ressurection.
Dead after 6 hours
You are talking nonsone
Said no intelligent person ever in all of history.
The shroud violates the commandment of no images of anything above or below the Earth. The Bible says Jesus fufilled the law not that he broke the law.
His followers painted a picture of Jesus in their synagogue. They are the true followers, the rest -- everyone is pagan!
@@janoselter3743Where ... Catholic?
You're a protestant heathen no doubt ...
@@dominicbriganti5710 Who Said Catholics Are Right?
A follower of Jesus is NOT a Catholic, but a follower of the son of man!
It's Jesus look-a-like. It's Judas Iscariot.
I was co-crucified with Jesus Christ of Nazareth...
Eshua was not a white man, he was black.
Says who?
@@dominicbriganti5710 Says God in the Bible. Moses' hand turned white to be a sign go the Israelites that God had sent him; Leviticus 13, 14 and 15 states how to identify leprosy; Moses' sister Miriam was turned into a leper for speaking against Moses; Naaman the commander of the syrian army healed of leprosy and the ten lepers that God healed in the New Testament. White skin is leprosy.
I am amazed at how people focus on what is not important. Jesus' body on earth was of a dark skin, middle eastern. We are not bodies, we are spirits. And spirits have no color, because they have no skin. God does not have a flesh body, he is ALL Spirit. Therefore, he is of no color. And besides, God judges the heart of man, nothing else.
