I don’t know for sure but I always thought it was because the mechanism to make his head spin locked his head in place when it was done moving.

I agree this force field ability is funny but still a deadly weapon against Godzilla I think it would be interesting to see how the newer incarnations of Mechagodzilla would include this weapon or how it would be reimagined
