To the showrunners and team, amazing first season (final episode pending). From all of us, please do not forget your roots from this season when you get into the Dance. As the plot evolves to allow more big set-pieces do not forget character and conversation. As stakes rise and you feel the need to have penultimate scenes like this one, do not forget logical consistency. *Do not forget about the iron fleet*.
Totally agree. For me GOT and HOTD is not about the action, but all about characters, character building, amazing conversations, backstabbing, the suspence. And as you say, dont forget about the logic and dont be too hung up on "breaking the internet" ending scenes". People are not stupid.

The best thing about rhaenys’ armor is that it looks like it’s been battle worn, and not shiny/brand new. She’s comfortable in it, the way one gets used to broken in riding boots. I don’t know what fights she may have done, but she’s done some, and man ALIVE is she a badass.

My headcanon is she wearing the armor of her aunt Alyssa since she rides her dragon.

One thing Alyssa had always loved about Rhaenys was Rhaenys’ refusal to conform. Had Alyssa ever had a daughter, she would have liked her to be like Rhaenys.
I was hyped for Rhaenys to have her moment and the chills were there, but showrunners should really stick to the book since once they got off the leash with a completely original scene, it made little sense. Even if the Princess somehow suffered no resistance from guards, dragonkeepers or locked doors on her way to Meleys and was willing to decimate commoners while sparing her real enemies, humans don't survive stone debris damage, that much Cersei and Jamie proved to us.
None of these armor are comfortable but Rhaenys armor was unbelievably cool
I like Alicents armour more. I believe the maesters call it, "plot armour".
Looked too high fantasy compared to the rest of HotD costumes, in my opinion.

0:15 - 0:47 is a terrifying window into how Sara Hess in particular approaches storyboarding. "It went in immediately and we never looked back." Seeing as most people only acknowledged the additional scene as a visual spectacle, it's pretty grating that the screenwriters are so comfortable in deliberately missing the mark.
No motive, reasoning, or characterization as to why Rhaenys would be so derelict in keeping her family safe by NOT burning Alicent and the Greens. It'll just have to be explored after the fact, bc Sara Hess thinks its cooler.
sara hess is literally a tumor who has fully been disregarding characterization. she's trying to villainize daemon whilst trying to portray aegon as a sympathetic hero, fat shamed, and just generally doesn't understand fire and blood. she needs to be removed from the show immediately.

She probably left her armor in the same room as the dragon, or maybe they have a locker for their armors in the halls leading to the dragon cells. There's no point in taking your armor to the Red Keep if you're not a knight.
It scares me to see that so many idiots love the Rhaenys scene and praises the writers for it. That increases the odds for more stupid scene like that next season😬

I find it immensely frustrating that Rhaenys was willing to kill probably 100 or so innocents trying to escape but spared the greens.
Rhaenys could have ended the dance right then and there. If she had burned them all, she would have saved the dragons and house Targaryen.
Yeah but they were just peasants even someone like Rhaenys who seems honorable doesn't really give a toss about the common people.
And then you have no show and no Dance of the Dragons. Remember, this is still a TV show based on a fantasy book. Sometimes you need to throw out logic and reason.
I think that's kind of the point of Game of Thrones overall and why Daenerys was considered such an exceptional person in the show. Season 8 aside, the idea of casually killing a bunch of innocents for kicks was repugnant to her.

I don't think the Meleys scene breaking through the Dragonpit was necessary. I know it's fan service to give Rhaenys her BADASS MOMENT but it made her look bad towards the commoners.
I already liked Rhaenys before that scene. I see her and Viserys as the only two "adults" in this series. The only ones rational and a voice of reason. I already knew Rhaenys was a badass knowing what happens to her at the end. The scene wasn't needed to confirm that.
Perhaps the scene gives the common folks a more valid reason to storm the Dragonpit later on. But this also gives the dragon an excuse to escape if Meleys could break through. I only saw that scene as added fan service for Team Black and people who likes Rhaenys which I already did by Ep 5.
Otto is a real piece of work. He's been plotting to kill Daemon for 20 years It's only the next day after Rhaenyra left for Dragonstone and Otto is already ordering for her death while pregnant and long before Viserys died. *I* *now* *condone* *Blood* *and* *Cheese.* Feel bad for Helaena.
I find both Alicent and Aegon complex because sometimes I want to strangle them. Other times, I'll pity them. And I can relate to Aegon. When I lived in the Philippines from 2011-2016, all I did that first year was go to brothels. I'm like Daemon and Aegon paying for poon tang.
I'm a first-born son like Aegon. At 13, I masturbated just like Aegon. Not from a window and I never raped anyone, but a lot of his flaws, I actually have. High expectations from parents. Only disappointed them once I reached my teens.
Aemond might look cooler than Aegon but where's his layers? I need more than just being a badass. I have Viserys and Rhaenys over Khal Drogo because I seem to know them more. Drogo, Oberyn, and Selmy were all badasses but we barely knew them.
So I understand the fandom for the Greens. Doesn't mean l'll root for them, think they're right, or love any of them, but I enjoy watching their complexities. I may hate what Alicent or Aegon does and then start feeling sorry for them like 2 minutes later.
Aegon is the guy who skipped prom but still got named prom king. Zero effort to achieve it. Just be born with a penis and be first in line like Prince (now King) Charles and Prince William.

Rhaeneys is pure metal. I love it. I’ve read the books several times and I am so pleased with the way the story is being told.
For anybody who doesn’t Rhaenys’ maternal grandfather was a Baratheon and grandmother a Velaryon.

Her Father was Aemon Targaryen, once Prince of Dragonstone, heir to the Iron Throne, son of Jaeherys Targaryen, whose mother was also Alyssa Velaryon, and father Aenys I.
This would make Rhaenys’s Father (Aemon) and her Mother (Jocelyn) half aunt and nephew.

amazing visuals no doubt team did a great job that being said its the shittiest scene in the whole universe because rhaenys has the chance to save her family and end the war in moments but she chooses not too because reasons she destroyed her own family and plunged the country into civil war for nothing

Absolutely stellar 1st Season. I actually had a problem with the escape though. I feel there wasn't enough setup. Your answers just don't seem to jive. I can suspend belief and still enjoy it, but I've been spoiled. With a very few exceptions. the writing has been so good and I have not had any difficulty understanding motivations and I appreciate that you often let us interpret our own. This was just not possible with this, though. Rhaenys' character is so all over the place. Perhaps these kind of setups will be better in the future. I'm looking forward to a killer finale. Clare, it was beautifully directed, and I am glad you are returning next season.
Yes sadly this episode is the worst for me and Sarah Hess is the problem. I can see a difference between the two episodes she wrote (6&9) and the rest. The whole scene with Rhaenys at the end didnt make any scense and was only done for some action. It doesnt fit Rhaenys character to just kill thousands of civilians just for a stare down. How did it even work that she wasnt injured or not dead after crashing through the floor. From where was the armour?

The team continue to evolve and push the boundaries of the technology used to create this magnificent world. Along with beautifully crafted sets, costumes and props that took months to build. The level of detail is incredible. I can’t wait to see what they do next and for other series like Princess Nymeria’s story.
0:16 it's giving "dany kind of forgot about the iron fleet"... the writers this season have certainly....made choices. resulting in differing characterization and lack of unity even tho the season overall is good.

Well how does she not get hurt or die while on the back of her dragon with all the stuff falling all over. It’s kind of unrealistic for a dragon to burst through the floor made of stone or whatever using what? the dragon’s head, shoulders and wings and she comes out unscathed on the back of her dragon.
As a stupid scene added to Martin's original narrative, it will backfire and bring out questions. If Meleys could break through, why the other dragons are trapped inside while being slain in the time of insurrection? Where did Rhaenys put on her stylish armour suit? (She is used to leaving her belongings in the car, maybe?) If Meleys was in chains, how did she get unlocked?
There is so much hardwork behind every scene. Hats off to the HOTD team for giving us such a great content

Not really. They didnt physically attack her in any way yet. She more than likely pictures herself standing there with her son and showed mercy....waiting for an actual battle to ensue in the future.

@@HaelinX man, Meleys is x3 bigger than Sunfyre at that point, if such a thing was to happen the scene would have another turn, she would kill Sunfyre and burn the greens, it is better written the way it is. (Even after he's grown he will still be no match for her but i won't spoil further)

Ok so I'm really loving this show its fantastic having fun in westros again especially after the disaster of the last seasons of GOT and your doing a great job but I feel it important to give constructive criticism, this scene didn't work for me it felt like you turned her into a phyco who just killed like 500 people and didn't end the war when she had the chance even tho she just showed her willingness to kill people, it felt like spectacle for the sake of it,
So here's my alternative suggestion on what you should have done instead, while ageon is soaking in the glory intercut it with rhaenys going down to her dragon putting on her armour, unchaining and mounting meleys and escaping out the back door of the dragon pit and have meleys let out a roar that alerts the greens to her and have them become visually worried, similar big movement that doesn't put her character Into question

I’d want to believe they’ll re-focus moving forward, but I’ve seen enough mindless seals online all celebrating this “slay queen” moment for me to believe they could just as easily delude themselves into thinking it’s scenes like this that’ll bring the show success.
It lost one whole review point on rotten from critics after going up previously from one episode before

This show has been absolutely AMAZING. FLAWLESS. Pacing, performances, costuming, casting, VFX, score, scripting. Just INCREDIBLE. For a first season, this has been MILES ahead of GoT season 1. House of the Dragon has had BREADTH to a level that GoT rarely attained, and has done so CONSISTENTLY.
So this pretty much confirms that they thought of this scene first and then started thinking about how to include it into the plot. Have you learned nothing from Game of Thrones?

You'll hear him talk about the budgeting etc. He'll talk about how expensive the dragons are etc. If you read the books and watch the show, you can see what is GRRM's work vs D&D's choices. Snow is the P who was P. He did exactly what the prince was supposed to do; LEAD THE ARMIES OF MEN, against the dead. No one said he was going to kill the NK. LEAD ARMIES. Books are not finished and yes I'm gonna be honest i didn't read all the way through because I am waiting for winds of winter. GRRM would obviously gives reasons for the failure of the show, but who would audience believe? GRRM or production company who was willing to give more budget to the show. And budget? Lol. You are saying that the most successful show in that time had budget constraints because of dragons and yet they spent tons of money on HOTD not knowing whether it would be successful or not. Doesn't make sense and sound like a bad business decision. Now coming to the show, if you take your head out of book you would know how awful the dialogues, characters and execution became in later seasons. The long night battle was absolutely hilarious to watch with people marching in the dark without knowing the location of undead and fighting in the open. Even Peter mentioned it, they kept woman and children with dead people and.... The army is literally made from dead people. How stupid. Prophecies and canons all that doesn't matter when the stuff I'm watching forces me to notice stupid mistakes after mistakes in writing. There are plenty of inconsistencies I noticed and when I looked at other people's reviews I noticed some more. There is a good reason why later seasons are trash talked so much. You like it that's absolutely fine but it doesn't excuse the absymmal writing. Dialogues were cliche and plot points broken. Again books don't have these so even if I agree with you about the Jon prophecy, it still wouldn't make the show better.

Oh god please dont let Sarah Hess ruin the show. Get rid of her before the work on season 2 begins. Her 2 episodes are the worst of the 9 ones that are out. She doesnt understand how important the civilians are in George R. R. Martins world and how a ruler is looked upon considering the way he treats the cilvilians. There is also not much logic behind the Rhaenys scene. Sadly Migul Sapochnik says it himself that they only wrote and included this scene for the spectal and action. Sarah Hess also doesnt seem to understand the characters of Rhaenys and Daemon! These comments she made in some interviews ... horrible how you can be employed on shuch a fantastic show and than miss such important things or get them wrong. This episode in general gave me huge season 8 Game of thrones vibes, wich isnt a good thing

Most of the rulers never truly gave a shit about the common folk. Egg was disliked by people at court because travelling around gave him the idea that 'common folk deserve rights or something'. It is the unfortunate truth that most common folk are just NPCs to the ruling class.

This was the worst scene in the show so far. They literally threw logic out the window to have a visual spectacle moment. This is exactly the kind of writing that ruined the end of GoT.
They made Rhaenys look like an immoral moron and a super hero at the same time. This was the 2nd scene in the show where I simply couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to enjoy it. First time was Daemon taking on an army by himself and not getting hurt at all.
THE SCENE I WOULD HAVE SEEN: After the coronation, the remainder of the Kingsguard escorted Aegon to his mount, a splendid creature with gleaming golden scales and pale pink membranes on the wings. Sunfyre was the dragon's given name golden dawn. Munkun tells us that the king flew three times around the city before landing within the walls of the Red Keep. Ser Arryk Cargyll led His Grace into the touch-lit throne room, where Aegon II rose before the steps of the Iron Throne a thousand lords and knights. Screams echoed through the hall.

Rhaenys’s Mother was a Baratheon (Jocelyn Baratheon, Daughter of Rogar Baratheon through his wife Alyssa Velaryon, who was once wife and Queen to King Aenys I Targaryen before his death).
Her Father was Aemon Targaryen, once Prince of Dragonstone, heir to the Iron Throne, son of Jaeherys I Targaryen, whose mother was also Alyssa Velaryon, and father Aenys I.
This would make Rhaenys’s Father (Aemon) and her Mother (Jocelyn) half aunt and nephew.

That last scene didn't make any sense. Are you telling me Rhaenys couldn't end the war right there because she wouldn't do that to another mother, meanwhile she killed and injured hundreds of innocent people with her dragon. Writers, just because something would be cool to do (the dragon coming through the floor), doesn't mean you have to do it.

It's ironic how the children from Rhaenyra and Alicent turned out. Aegon and Aemond are more like Rhaenyra. Stronger or independent. Jace is like Alicent. Traditional, honor, and duty.
