I am enjoying this so much, and learning from every step. It all makes such calm, clear sense, and it is such a pleasure to see the real magic of artistic technique shining through: the more discipline and the more confident control, the greater the freedom to say whatever your medium can express.
So far I have avoided wet media because I haven't ever felt I could keep control of it. But I'm starting to feel more inclined to play around and let things just fall out the way they want to. Mix media up and see what it all does? Why not? Thanks for that especially.

For sure give it a try. Do some fun tests, with simple one layer of wet colour, let dry, and draw on top. If you have thin paper, you can also use a spray glue to adhere your paper to a backing board, or put 2 sheets tougher. Have fun and thanks for watching. Cheers

Absolutely lovely. I have so much trouble blending with all mediums, but I'll certainly try harder. 😃

This looks absolutely gorgeous! I enjoy using mixed media myself. I really love mixing watercolor, alcohol markers, and colored pencils together on one drawing. However, the paper that I use (canson mixed media) doesn't seem ideal for markers, as it seems to dry them out rather quickly and grind at the nibs, which unfortunately makes the drawing look streaky. I also noticed that after a few washes of wet on wet layers of watercolor that the paper had a hard time accepting any colored pencil on top. Do you have any recommendations for paper that can handle both watercolor and alcohol markers? Thank you so much!

    Great tutorial!
Anyone have a good tip on where to buy Zest-It Pencil Blend? Jackson’s in the UK has been sold out for months. And I haven’t seen it in the US (Blick, Jerry’s, Amazon or Etsy).

I originally purchased mine from their Etsy shop, as you mentioned above, but it looks like it has closed. Bargain Art Shop in the UK sells it, looks like it is in stock. If you can’t get Zest-It then Gamsol odourless mineral spirits works just as good. cheers

Hello 🤗, are the markers you used waterbased or are those alcohol markers? And does it make a difference in how you would go over the marker with pencil whether it was waterbased or alcohol based?
    Thank you 😊.

They are alcohol based. I haven't tried water based markers, don't know what they would do. Well there you go I'm going to have to go out and find some and give them a try. LOL, any excuse to get more art supplies. Cheers

Nice work. I love mixed media for realism too. I wonder don't you want to diminish that grainy outlook some more. I think some less famous but a bit harder/sharper CPs would be better for your shading .. at least darker layers, brighter layers are good to be softer CPs. And definitely on less textured paper.

Hi and thanks for watching. This was just a test, and for sure there are many other pencils that will do a different job. The idea with the video is not about the elimination of the graininess but helping folks start using mixed media. Polychromos is a medium hard pencil, the paper is a good smooth tooth. Getting rid of the graininess would be a great follow up video :) Cheers
