The dealer and independent shop claimed I had to have the transmission pulled in order to do this job on my '09 MK5. I was being charged 1350$ parts/labor for that job to done. I'm glad I found this video.
Ha yeah that is what the workshop manual states is required, but us VW technicians found out a long time ago this is not needed. I can guarantee any technician at the VW dealer is not pulling your transmission to do this job, but they will have no problem billing you for it :) Most specialized independent VW shops will charge you a fair amount to do this job. Many general independent shops have no idea that it is even possible to do the repair this way so they will just quote based upon the shop manual suggested time.
It can't hurt, just try to use lint free cloth so you do not introduce any trash sand/etc into the engine! If you do some quick degreasing the areas beforehand it will minimize mucking up the engine when you pop the part loose mainly seems to happen then..
This worked really well for my 2.5. However, the kit for 3.0t didn't fix the leak from the pump plate. Is it because it might be warped from the age and heat?
No power tools are required they just help speed up the job. You can do this with a basic set of hand tools and shop supplies such as ratchet, extensions, Torx bit set, pliers, brake parts cleaner, and shop rags.
No need to drain the oil. Only a few tablespoons that are inside the pump will leak out. Do not oil the gasket before reassembly. That would probably increase the likelihood that it would leak again.
Provides a vacuum for the brake booster, to assist in applying the brakes. These engines don’t receive vacuum from the intake manifold and need this little tjing to do that.
Hey great video. I'm about to order your kit. Quick question, on a manual transmission can the whole unit just be removed then replace front and rear seals, reassemble and then reinstall? And also, where does the green "O Ring" go at included in the kit. Thank you!
Hey there, just did this kit and I was bit confused myself because they didn’t show it. It goes on the back of the brake booster tube sticking out of the side of the vac pump. There’s a couple tabs on the side you push in on and it pops out. New o-ring made it much tighter.
awesome video. best one on youtube by far. question though. is the leak coming from the front orange seal or the black metal gasket on the back? im getting ready to do this soon and wondering if the leak is just the front orange gasket and avoid taking the vacuum pump off. thanks
They say it is usually from the front orange seal, even though it can be from the metal gasket which is unlikely. I think you can replace both to be on the safe side.
The dealership told me I have an oil leak coming from my vacuum pump and also a leak from the vacuum line (my brakes weren't working fine). They fixed my brakes problem, can't afford the new vacuum pump, but now I'm wondering if the leaky vacuum pump will keep affecting my car's breaks?
Generally a leak from the front or rear seal of the vacuum pump will not cause any performance issues. If the Vacuum port O ring is leaking that will cause a loss of vacuum and performance. These pumps rarely fail internally so if you still have issues after a rebuild I would be looking at the hard plastic lines that come off of the pump. These can crack with age and cause a loss of vacuum.
I have a 2.5L manual transmission engine. in your video you say that you are performing the service on a manual transmission vehicle, but you do not show what you do with the manual transmission cables nor the mounts (or what ever you call it ) that blocks me from getting to the right side screws to remove the pump. Can I just unscrew the transmission mounts ?
The front cover plate gasket is the cause of most of the leaks on these pumps, but we recommend doing all gaskets because they will all fail eventually.
@RKXTECH so I replaced all the Gaskets on the pump and put it back together this past weekend but I got the check engine light on a day later with a code P0411. Could I have put it back together wrong?
This fixes oil leak. If u have a vacuum leak remove all hose and make sure they are not broken. Also check the pcv diapgharm. I spent several days fixing my dad rabbit and it was broken hoses and broen pcv and dirty maf sensor very easy to do
We don't do any repairs, but we do manufacture and sell the kit. We have many shops that sell and install our products. Send us a email through our website with your location and we can send a recommendation.
Whats crazy is its actually cheaper to buy & install the Vacuum pump delete kit by Spullen*.. then to buy a new pump. They should of figured out & engineered the 2.5l during MK6 era.. i have 2011.. now all these lil things have gone up 1 by one .lol Vacuum pump!, clutch ( just got replaced).. my flex pipe needs to be replaced (3rd time)-because my engine/ trans mounts are done too. Bout this 2011 jetta se 5spd in 2017.. for 8000$ then dumped 3500-4400$ into it.. Awe Track Exhaust/ Usp-dwnpipe/ NGP full tune up & UsP tune flash/ aFe cai/ Southbend stge 2 Clutch kit, radio subs/system.. I kinda regret it.. sounds nice 2.5l is good engine.. but limited what i can do with it, car for sale.. i live in Maryland.. 4200$ /trade.. just had a brand new clutch kit with slave cylinder installed .. that was 16oo$.. plus it has 1000$ Exhaust, 300$cai,750$ full tune. 154kmiles. .. like i said it needs Vacuum pump sealed(only thing leaking) new mounts, & flex pipe
you just use this kit and you don't need a new pump ? Interesting. Time to order, when the car was in the dealership, the tech told me the vacuum pump failed and that is why it is all wet.
My god that engine bay is dirty as hell lol.i think you're missing another seal i got 3 pieces with my kit.excellent vdo by the way not too long and bot a bunch of blah blah
Yes this video was shot before we had the vacuum port seal in the kit. If you check our other videos you can see the procedure for vacuum port O ring replacement.
So I have this problem what should one be charged for overall they gave me a quote of 1400$ bruh and it hurts my heart because it’s as much as the jelly blue book quote and idk if I should fix it or just get a used car but I’m so fucking stressed
Being careful with the torque specs is verry good idea when installing these gaskets. Doing them badly may likely bring back the leak and then require a second redo.

EXCELLANT, I WILL HAVE TO GET THIS ORDERED. I'M GLAD I TOOK THE TIME TO WATCH THIS, A MONEY SAVER FOR SURE.
Glad we could help out! If you purchase the kit and have any questions be sure to contact us we are always here to help.
Rule #1 Don't get ripped off by VW Dealers and corrupt mechanics. Rule #2. Pay strict attention to Rule #1---Hope this Helps!
For automatic transmission you will have to take off some more parts to pull off the pump, add approximately 30 min extra to the total labor time.
do you have any photos for automatic transmission?
Great video, easy and straight to the point. I just ordered my reseal kit. Keep it up!
Glad we could hep and thanks for supporting our company!
Thanks for the parts and the video! Worked like a charm!
Glad we could hep and thanks for supporting our company!
what are the symptoms besides the oil leak, can the brake pedal be just a little stiff?
Thank for the gasket kit, worked perfect, also delivered fast!,,,
Glad we could hep and thanks for supporting our company!
How due u get the line off the back of the pump
I just changed both gaskets, torqued everything and it still leaks. Would a new pump help?
What is the 3/4" green o-ring for?
Never mind, saw in another video it is for the vacuum port.
Do you have to change the oil after this?
It can't hurt, just try to use lint free cloth so you do not introduce any trash sand/etc into the engine!

Can anyone please confirm the size of those 3 t30 bolts which hold the pump? I snapped one and need to replace it, thanks!
What spray is used at 3:57? What spray is used at 7:20 for the vacuum line and why?
Hi at 3:57 we are using a brake parts cleaner / degreaser. At 7:20 is a silicone lubricant spary.
What Tools where they using to do this replacement?.. I see some power tools in the video.. I don't have any.
No power tools are required they just help speed up the job. You can do this with a basic set of hand tools and shop supplies such as ratchet, extensions, Torx bit set, pliers, brake parts cleaner, and shop rags.
Do you recommend draining the oil first? Also do you not recommend to oil the new gasket before putting the cover back on?

Do not oil the gasket before reassembly. That would probably increase the likelihood that it would leak again.
I got an error code "Faulty Stabilization Control" after, how to fix it?
What does that vacuum do ?
Provides a vacuum for the brake booster, to assist in applying the brakes. These engines don’t receive vacuum from the intake manifold and need this little tjing to do that.
@@hildaelvir2059 nice 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 thanks

gonna order my kit on amazon doing coils plugs map and vac pump and valve cover because i need a new pcv valve my poor 07 2.5 jetta needs it

measurement of the screws that hold the pump and the lid? please.
I need to take out all the oil before to remove the gasket?
No. You will lose a small amount of oil that is inside of the pump when you remove it, but not enough to effect your overall oil level.
I can't find the gasket kit, what brand did you use or should I try to find?
Its an RKX kit. The company that made the kit also made this video.
Would an oil leak from this vacuum pump affect my car's braking capability?
The dealership told me I have an oil leak coming from my vacuum pump and also a leak from the vacuum line (my brakes weren't working fine). They fixed my brakes problem, can't afford the new vacuum pump, but now I'm wondering if the leaky vacuum pump will keep affecting my car's breaks?

What is I need a new vacuum pump? Will this solve the issue?
The existing vacuum pump is most likely fine. Rather, it’s the gaskets that seem to be the issue.
where did you find a new front place cover and vacuum line? do you guys also sell that too?
Do you have to drain the oil first?
Top bhoter excelente serviço
Thanks brada
Hola! en donde conseguiste el repuesto o la liga?
Buscalo en ebay cuesta $33 dls
If replacement only the front gasket AND not the rear gasket you think solution the problem o nedd take off allí gasket
The front cover plate gasket is the cause of most of the leaks on these pumps, but we recommend doing all gaskets because they will all fail eventually.
RKXTECH.com ok thanks you have internacional service o only united stateS im from México city
JUAN MARCOS
Yo nomas remplace el gasket the enfrente y solucione el problema
@RKXTECH so I replaced all the Gaskets on the pump and put it back together this past weekend but I got the check engine light on a day later with a code P0411. Could I have put it back together wrong?
u must have broke an air intake hose they break very easy
thanks
Howcome this is only front and back seals other kits have all the inside seals aswell and you have to take the tandem pump apart to replace them
CM 17 - Im searching for the kit with everything also. Did you find one?
Will doing this turn the engine light off? The code it read was for a vacuum leak.
No it wont fix a check engine light for a vacuum leak. This vacuum pump is only responsible for creating vacuum for your brake booster.
This fixes oil leak. If u have a vacuum leak remove all hose and make sure they are not broken. Also check the pcv diapgharm. I spent several days fixing my dad rabbit and it was broken hoses and broen pcv and dirty maf sensor very easy to do
Can you fix mine
Yeah, he'll be right over

I believe the front cover plate bolt is a T25
