the line it comes up once a day is underrated 😂😂
Ive spent a few years up in the oil sands and some of that time working for heavy metal, glad to see you working with them! Great company to be involved with
hardly ever see footage of the 24M grader; she's a beast
Edit: small skidsteer handling a pretty big job; cool.
Been working up at Base Plant for the last 2.5 years. One thing that's always impressive is the size of the equipment and operations. And yes, the winters are no joke. Pretty bad when -18 is considered a warm day!
Fancy seeing you here
@@andyblink5722 Just catching up on the latest Suncor operations
Not only did I enjoy the equipment, I most enjoyed Aaron complaining about the cold.
I'm an Arizona boi
Life pro tip when it's cold like that and you're just walking/staning around, get a bigger warmer. I use a zippo "hand warmer" and it's the size of a small flask, but lasts for 12 hours once you light it. I stick that in the inside chest pocket of my jacket, and it keeps my core nice and warm, which keeps blood moving to the extremities in turn. I've stood around freezing my knees in -10f and I just had a t shirt, a hoodie with the chest pocket, and a good winter coat, and was honestly quite decent. three layers minamum though, DO NOT KEEP THEM AGAINST YOUR SKIN. kept it in my jeans pocket once and low temp burns _suck_. way worse than a normal one. keep it in the mid layer and you're gold.
they probably make a battery heater brick these days, but I know if I'm cold and need it, I can refill that sucker a lot faster than a battery charges. and you don't have to worry about the batteries freezing when it's in your bag and switched off.
Welcome to the north, no sun in winter, no shade in summer.
Sadly, you missed the good days in Svalbard/Spitsbergen, but you could go visit Mine 7 before they close down the coal-operation for good in 25/26.
Beautiful scenery in summer & winter.
If you're lucky, you might even see a polarbear
heavy metal was the title sponsor a motocross race in edmonton this past weekend, cool to see they deal with more than the skid steers i saw on the broadcast, watching you guys makes me feel better abut complaining at -70c
As a retired heavy equipment operator... what a great channel this is.
thanks Jim
Always love a new video, I know every time that I'll learn something and be entertained while doing it as well as seeing some great cinematography skills
Thanks for watching!!
@@AaronWitthope you enjoyed you stay in the fort mcmurray region bud. I run truck over at syncrude.
We have 3 24s in our rental fleet, crescent valley nevada 🇺🇸
Having to live up here in Fort Mac,in the -50 winters to the +40 summers, I think working at site we all get a little to used to the wild temps every day haha
Ya when I heard -18 I chuckled and said that's warm
It was awesome seeing you guys up here in Canada. Great video!
thanks for checking it out!
"It's amazing"
"what"
"the sun"
"it uh... comes up once a day"
Not there it dons't lmao. he's above the arctic circle
Thats some big equipment that we don't get to see, even though modern society would have a hard time running without it. Pro tip, get yourself a neck gaiter, you loose a ton of heat through your neck.
nice tip thank you
Cold weather tip when your finger tips are frozen. Put your arms down at your side and position your hands so your palms are facing the ground and then shrub your shoulders up and down somewhat fast. It will circulate warm blood to your hands
I wonder off-hand how much torque you have to put into the drive sprockets on that PC8000 to make it even think of moving.
A CAt 7495 tack shoe is about 4K lbs. So Big they even have forklift holes designed into them.
-15 like that is truly warm for that area and even most canada gets to -30c fairly often.
I live in northern Alberta and we had a couple cold spells this winter were the temperature went below -40
"SuN cOmEs oUt OnCe A DaY"
ya dont fkn say😂
Well the space heater isnt a good sign means either the heat is shit or dont work at all
Gd, the chunk of metal on that scoop on the komatsu
I’ve worked up there in -53°c it was ridiculous
Pretty cool Aaron. Thanks for sacrificing your fingertips for us on this one.
I do what I can
Last winter in quebec we had one cold ass day and it was -35 celcius feels like -52😅
My favorite RUclips channel!
you're too kind
This was a cool episode! ...... Cool. Ha ha, how punny! 😜😁🤟
I feel like this is more of a lease than a rental. Like I don't think yhe contracts are the same if I went to sunbelt for a ditchwitch for 6 hours, compared to these huge 24 grader, it's probably a more long term thing with maintenance and everything built into the contracts.
Mittens help a lot to keep the fingers warm. 08:25
Another stellar video
thanks Ron!
Hey Aaron I’d recommend RefrigiWear mits for your hands. I worked in a freezer at -10F and they were invaluable
that big shovel does have a heated cabin right?
but then I don't get the operator's sneeze story
It's not harsh up there lol. It's tuff up there.
The bread n butter of Alberta has destroyed even massive bucket wheeled excavators
How would one get into that I have worked in the patch and I'm 21 I have run heavy equipment for a while and want to get into the bigger stuff I have worked in the suncor plants up there in the Mac but haven't really met anyone in the sand side of things? Do you know of anyone willing to give a young guy a chance?
I also have my class 1. I have run pretty much everything from tri drive combo units to over dimension haul rigs. Skidsteer, excavator, steamers, rod trucks, to high pressure chem trucks and hot oilers, packers and rock trucks. The only things I don't have much seat time in is a dozer.
@@Krove-jj6vl For operators, Morgan Construction will give most guys a shot at running equipment in a mining environment.
“You pay” 😂
I bet the operators are making good bank or I hope so at that mine dealing with the grey and bitter cold great video
Nice editing
That is the biggest road grader ive ever seen in my life
Those are made by CAT just for big mining. Just to keep haul roads smooth for the massive dumps. Have seen three of them working in tandem grading haul roads. When you see them from the view point at big mines. They look Tiny.
Be the biggest one you will typically ever see unless you find a champion 100T or see the Acco super grader
-18c freezing 😂if you were there month before it was -40c we just get adopted 😂
Nice video as always dude , heavy metal is great company
I’m soft
@@AaronWittHi, Soft. I'm dad :)
@Aaron Witt 😂🤣 we all been there , you would get use to it 😉
You can actually *hear* the cold in Aaron's voice .....
Y'all need to get you a Fortress Clothing sponsorship because there's no such thing as bad weather, just poor clothing choices!
Dig the content btw!
Love your content!
thanks for watching!
What does the 8000 cost a day?
Howdy y’all
💪💪💪🖐🖐👌👌 aaron make video komatsu pc 7000 🙏🙏🙏
Be nice to get costs for rental. Its just an operating cost. Shouldn't be a secret.
I’m watching this in a rented CAT 740 lol
How appropriate
When are you applying for citizenship. You could be a dually.
wouldn't that be nice
Rip lense
Thick unit :)))
second person to watch it lol
What’s so funny
Thanks for watching
