Been working up at Base Plant for the last 2.5 years. One thing that's always impressive is the size of the equipment and operations. And yes, the winters are no joke. Pretty bad when -18 is considered a warm day!

Life pro tip when it's cold like that and you're just walking/staning around, get a bigger warmer. I use a zippo "hand warmer" and it's the size of a small flask, but lasts for 12 hours once you light it. I stick that in the inside chest pocket of my jacket, and it keeps my core nice and warm, which keeps blood moving to the extremities in turn. I've stood around freezing my knees in -10f and I just had a t shirt, a hoodie with the chest pocket, and a good winter coat, and was honestly quite decent. three layers minamum though, DO NOT KEEP THEM AGAINST YOUR SKIN. kept it in my jeans pocket once and low temp burns _suck_. way worse than a normal one. keep it in the mid layer and you're gold.
they probably make a battery heater brick these days, but I know if I'm cold and need it, I can refill that sucker a lot faster than a battery charges. and you don't have to worry about the batteries freezing when it's in your bag and switched off.

Welcome to the north, no sun in winter, no shade in summer.
Sadly, you missed the good days in Svalbard/Spitsbergen, but you could go visit Mine 7 before they close down the coal-operation for good in 25/26.
Beautiful scenery in summer & winter.
If you're lucky, you might even see a polarbear

Cold weather tip when your finger tips are frozen. Put your arms down at your side and position your hands so your palms are facing the ground and then shrub your shoulders up and down somewhat fast. It will circulate warm blood to your hands

I feel like this is more of a lease than a rental. Like I don't think yhe contracts are the same if I went to sunbelt for a ditchwitch for 6 hours, compared to these huge 24 grader, it's probably a more long term thing with maintenance and everything built into the contracts.
