There are so many private companies running around London on lights and sirens but not actually going to emergency calls, or carrying patients with life threatening issues. Hopefully they won’t kill a pedestrian when they do this because the driver will be responsible.
The blues are perfectly adequate, if you can’t see that there’s a bloody big fire appliance pounding down the road, then you shouldn’t be on the road yourself. The way some US emergency vehicles are lit up could, in some circumstances, be counter productive and even dangerous.

I worked a private ambulance and had critical patients often that requires lights and sirens. Hell, I was one of those patients one time.
No legal requirement for an ambulance to be answering 999 calls to use L&S though. (RRVs are different though, but that doesn't apply here)
