I have heard many versions of this song, but this one brought tears to my eyes. Such a great voice.
Thanks for your comments Karen. Totally agree with you. I realise that Beatles fans might have a problem with this, but Neil does infuse this song with feeling, sincerity and owned it in the process, something lacking in the Beatles casual version.

I like to read comments. I am interested until the arguments start. This one you made went straight to my heart. My first time to hear Neil's version. John was always my fav so all of this was very very meaningful to me. Neil was just amazing ! I will watch this lots I know ! Thank you as well🎼

I still have this on VHS my granny gave it to me before she passed away in 2003. God I miss her she got me into Neil Diamond.

Thanks for your comments Patricia. It definitely takes all types. I had someone (obviously a rabid Beatle fan) complain about Neil singing this medley with his hand in his pocket. According to this person, Neil was showing disrespect to the Beatles.😳 Go figure!

The main recording session for "Golden Slumbers"/"Carry That Weight" was on July 2, 1969. John Lennon was not present. He was injured in a motor vehicle accident in Scotland on July 1, 1969, and was hospitalized there until July 6.
It takes a musical colossus to nuance what is essentially three songs that have dovetailed into one. I already miss Neil Diamond’s glittering persona that he exuded in his live concerts. Incredible voice, and a towering genius.
Neil Diamond is all charisma.
Such a brilliant rendition of this medley. Neil infuses so much feeling and emotion. Brilliant.

It is only recently that I have come to appreciate Neil Diamond for the legend that he is; it is due in no small part to this video. My mum and dad, many years ago, went to see him in concert and I am kind of jealous of them. True, I don't give 'Sweet Caroline' the due it deserves (yet), but I kind of get a little peeved when the NI rugby fans get over-excited when it plays and blow it out of context; I say that being from Northern Ireland. Anyway, it seems that many legendary performers stand in awe and marvel at the Abbey Road medley, it is that good; Phil Collins did a compelling cover of it too. Indeed, being a Beatles fan, I am inspired by all these classic and once-in-a-lifetime, unique talents! Neil's rendition of 'Hallelujah' by Leonard Cohen similarly starstruck me and is absolutely stellar. I am so grateful for my parents having a great taste in music, but at the same time am a little sad; it hits a little different, knowing Neil's condition and that I myself cannot live my parents' experience, but he did us proud. He even had a soft spot for Donaghadee. He earned his reputation as a Diamond. Thank you very much for uploading this smashing video. Alex

Several years ago, I bought tickets for me and my husband-to-be to see Neil. He wasn't that thrilled as he was the lead singer in a heavy metal band. He was pleasantly surprised by the quality of a Neil Diamond concert, and what a great entertainer Neil is. I had already been to some of Neil's concerts so I knew what to expect. There just isn't a more talented musician.

You must see the play A Beautiful Voice when it hits Broadway later this year. Saw it in Boston for its pre Broadway run and is wonderful! Songs telling story of his life. See it!
