Just like if you reject knowledge and wisdom, someone who’s smarter can manipulate your thoughts and behaviors. Man is not an altruistic species. We work together when there is a reason to, and fighting a common enemy is a great reason. So is religion. But even religion is based on the idea of a higher authoritative power who can harm you if you don’t follow rules. Kind of like how America gets to create international rules for war and combat, and set standards for human rights because America is the one with the most power.
